SUPPER CLUB - tuesday, Feb 22nd

Post by purrfect-lady » Tue Feb 22, 2022 6:13 am

Happy Washington's birthday! Our state's namesake. :D

Yesterday we gave Drew his LOTR quilt. He was over the moon happy! He kept hugging me, saying thank you over and over again, telling me how much he loved me. Does a gramma's heart good! His brother, Alec, is the same way. I could sew for these young men all day long! I did post a photo yesterday.

Today we're going to Seattle to my dermatologist. It's a long drive and we have a few other errands - Joann's and then to pick up my good Bernie from the Bernie Spa among others. So it's going to be a road day today.

BECCA - you asked about NC cozy mystery authors I'm readying. One is Eva Gates (she has a couple other names she writes under as well). She writes about a librarian and library in an old lighthouse on Outer Banks. Another is Ellen Crosby whose main character owns a vineyard and estate winery in NC, not far from D.C. The story I'm listening to right now is by Miranda James, another librarian series, usually set in MS. The main character has a big Maine Coon cat, Diesel, who goes everywhere with him. This particular story is set in Asheville, NC as the mystery lovers club from the library goes to a week long conference, Diesel included, of course. Another author I really like is Krista Davis. She writes 3 different series, but my favorite is The Diva series set in Old Town Alexandria, VA (where my DD#1, Lara, lives now). That's not too far from NC, is it?

ROSEBUD - so good to see you at the table! I've been keeping an eye out for pictures of your quilt and label. Hope you found your template. A few of El's books have templates included in them - Egg Money and maybe Victory? If exact measurements aren't a problem, I usually use whatever dish, glass, or bowl I can find in my cupboard.

IRISH - you made me laugh. My parents had 20 grandchildren. And they all were so excited when they were finally taller than Nana. And she always laughed because she knew that wasn't saying too much - she was only 4'10". Glad you are having some sunny weather. We will, too, this week, but lows will be low 20's! When I'm out for my morning walk! Brr!! That chick-fi-la certificate will come in handy one day, I'm sure!

JANA - happy birthday to your SIL! That trifle sounds delicious! Seems you just had a discussion about the Rules of the Batt Cave. Did somebody miss that meeting? lol!

CAROL - happy birthday to your niece. How is your sister doing? I have that magazine and saw that pattern. Great for picnics or patio suppers. Yes, I try to make quick work of bindings here. Several years ago when my hands were bad with a fungal infection (yes, I think it's back, hence the dermatology appt today) I couldn't do any hand sewing - or much else for that matter. So I HAD to learn to sew bindings by machine. It's a steep learning curve so that year I made each of my grand cats and dogs a blankie for Christmas. I kept practicing and now I'm pretty good. I did that LOTR binding (85x90) in about 45 minutes.

And now for the business portion of this thread - what's for dinner?? I don't know. Not a clue. Probably poached eggs or maybe soup and grilled cheese. Something quick and easy because it's going to be a long day in the car.

Thoughts for your supper tonite?

Good morning,
I am going to get some template plastic this morning and do just that. I will make my square on typing paper and use a plate for the curve. I will then add a quarter inch seam allowance and make my own template. I would just use cardboard, but I don't have any on hand. I just have to wait for JoAnn's to open.

I'm still finishing up the label and need to get the binding on the quilt and it will be finished. I'm having difficulty with getting my photos to transfer to my computer again, so once they are ready to post I will probably ask you or Tina to do that for me.

I'm thinking spaghetti, salad, and garlic bread would be good tonight. We'll see how the day goes.

Mary, those hugs are definitely worth the effort you put in to that amazing quilt.

Mary/rose, I use to save the cereal boxes to use as templates.

Carol, I'll have to check out that pattern. Sounds perfect for a gift.

At my retreat last week, I finished up the log cabin blocks I cut out. Of course only to find out I only cut half the blocks. Obviously my brain was not counting right that day. So I cut out 33 more sets. They sew up pretty fast. Just tedious. I need to work on my homework today or tomorrow. The final class is Friday.
She gave us lots of great information that I will continue to use on other quilts as well.

It's golf day for Bill, so late lunch. I'm thinking our local Mexican restaurant. No dinner.

Have a lovely day.

Hi everyone! It's almost 5pm here. Didn't get on the forum or any of that until now
I am so excited to share: I am doing chicken in my new aryfryer/oven. Rotisserie chicken!! Oh, it smells so good! I have been waiting to try this. Wow! Easy, but I need to get better at tying it up or truss, as I think it is called.
Going to do waffle fries with air fryer while chicken does it's 15 minute rest before serving.
Doing carrots in microwave and DH likes a bit of butter and brown sugar on those.
Didn't do any sewing today. We did grocery shopping in morning, And I finished up taxes this afternoon. For our State taxes, I needed to request a special ID and that needs to come in the mail. Silly, because we have been doing State taxes for free for many, many years, but this year, they must have something new to avoid tax fraud reporting. So, it's a good thing, I guess.
Ok, gotta go check on my chicken. See you tomorrow!!
HUGS, 💕 Vel

Maryz - Hope you do not have the fungal thing again! Hope Dermatologist has a quick fix. What is the next big project for you? Don't you owe other grandson a quilt now?

Lori - Yes, the silverware roll-ups make a great gift. My niece really liked them once I explained what use they served. I sympathize with not cutting enough I too have cut my stuff with too many and the wrong size. Maybe I should adopt Maryz's method and make a sample?

Rosebud - Another excellent plastic to use is a placemat from the dollar store.

Vel - You sound so excited! So happy the Air Fryer is working for you.

I went for a few groceries this morning and have been quilting. I have so many quilts waiting to be quilted I will be working on that for the next few months. This one is a RWB made with a fat quarter bundle. Squares are created from each fat quarter then cut in four pieces (equilateral triangles) and two of them are paired with a different pair and sewn together. I made 16 blocks and used leftover fat quarters for my niece's gift. Eventually I will gift her this quilt. It will make a wonderful picnic quilt. I am practicing feather wreaths in each block.

Tonight's dinner will be Teriyaki Chicken and rice. I made some Oatmeal Chocolate Cookies for my DH. (I used a mix and added walnuts.)

Good late afternoon!

Went to Costco this morning. No, 17 minutes in and out this trip. We only needed strawberries, so Michael suggested we look to see what else we might need or want. Yup, found several things needed and they did jump in the basket. And got the strawberries too. Now he is reading the manual for the new cordless phones. Our old system was acting up and we knew we needed new ones. Michael is a definite reader of instructions, not like the other person in this house! My theory, if you can't make it work by the third try, then read the instructions. His method does work better.

Dinner - fried rice and potstickers. We love the potstickers from Trader Joe's.

Mary - hope you get relief from the dermatologist today. And you get you machine back too! Love the pic of you and Drew.

MaryRose - I like the template plastic that you can iron on, that doesn't melt. Works great in paper piecing.

Vel - waffle fries come out great in a air fryer. So do egg rolls and many other things. I put my fries in a zip lock with a small amount oil and shake well. Less mess.

Carol - oh, cookies! I have lost my touch at making them. I do make good hockey pucks lately as I try a cookie recipe!

Lori - many times my brain doesn't do math right either. Good thing you had enough fabric

Well, need to scoot off,
Hugs
Jana
