Good morning,
A great stop here in Orange Grove. We picked a big bag of oranges to take home. Will share some w/ our friends, Doyle & Susie, who have been so helpful to us with our mail while we’ve been gone.
We will hit the highway in a couple hours as soon as it is late enough to see. It’s 350 miles to our next stop at a casino parking lot in Colusa California.
Yesterday we went to Costco for a few things. Then to Thimble town quilt shop. What a fun time I had there! I confess I bought quite a bit of fabric but in my defense all but 2 yards was on the clearance shelf at $6.99 a yard. Those two full price yards were pink and red for the February lotto
Jana, there are actually two Costco‘s in Bakersfield. Both were 10 miles from us in different directions. We chose the one with diesel so we could fill up. Have you finished your pantry reorganization yet? Funny about Lila cutting her hair. I bet almost every little girl in the history of a little girls has done that. Michaels Lightbulb stash reminds me of an episode of Tim the tool man Taylor. He was fixated on finding incandescent bulbs.
Lori, I can see why you don’t dictate your messages! L O L. Believe it or not, I do proofread and even then I can sometimes see my phone change wording just as I hit send.
Velda, have you considered adding ties to your lap quilts? I can’t tell you how many times I walked down hallways in nursing homes and picked lap quilts off the floor and tucked them in around the residents. They always slip off.
Becca, sounds like you and I use the same soup recipe.
Tina, I never put raw meat into the crockpot. We don’t like the curdled look/taste of the juices from Raw meat so I always brown it first. It will be nice to have prepared meals in your freezer
Carol, that was a great answer You gave to newcomer, Karen. I do note though in the log cabin book Eleanor’s blocks are 14 1/2 inch while in the other books they are 12 1/2”.
Tonight we are going to have sliced kielbasa in red beans and rice. Going to use a Zatarains rice mix. And salad.
And what about you?

Good morning!
Becca - bread pudding is a staple around here! I make mine with day old French bread, lots of a egg custard liquid - milk, sugar, and eggs, beaten together with a pinch of salt. And sprinkles of cinnamon throughout. Mine is quite a wet mixture. We let it soak for the bread to absorb, then bake. Some people add raisins, but those are not allowed in this house. It's good cold, warm or even hot. You can drizzle caramel sauce or even raspberry sauce as well. Ethan loves to take a hunk and eat it on the way to school if he's running late. I have used milk and evaporated mIlk too.
Not much happening here. Dishes are being done. I had a big mess in my kitchen , which I am gaining control over. Pantry is still getting in the way. But not as much. We found a new home, in the kitchen for all the paper goods - picnic supplies, so they are easily accessible. There are times when all are here, I break out the paper plates, etc. Now onto all my small appliances, I have quite a few! Waffle irons, I have two different types, crockpots, there are 5 , different sizes, electric frying pans, 2 different sizes, popcorn popper, griddle,, snow cone ice shaving machine, ice cream makers and then there's all my different baking pans. I have things galore! And I have pared things down! Sarah got rid of a ton of Wilton character cake baking pans the other day too. We must have had over 40 gathered through the years from all the BD cakes we have made.
Dinner - didn't get the soup made, so will try that for tonight. I do need to get my tortilla making press back from Sarah or buy a new one and make fresh taco shells and tacos one of these nights. They are really easy and taste so much better.
Mary - safe run to Colusa today. Hope the Siskiyous are clear.
Tina - hope Jaz is feeling better today. Is all the solar hooked up and running? Scott and Sandee love their's.
Well, first loads of dishes just finished, next ones are waiting,
Hugs,
Jana

Becca - My Mother made Bread Pudding all the time. I seldom make it because I seldom have stale bread. It tastes like French Toast. I love it. I have used the Betty Crocker Recipe that has eggs. I do add the raisins, they are a staple here. lol I do make Rice Pudding which is very similar. I don't make it often, because I eat too much of it.
Tina - Hope Jaz is feeling better.
Maryz - Enjoy your time in Colusa. Are you having dinner in the casino? Safe travels!
Jana - I need to go through the kitchen, but first must get the quilts done.
Doctor said the wound from skin surgery would heal better if I rested and not to do housework or exercise. When I quilt I sit. Doesn't that count? I am getting a black eye from the surgery. I look a sight! So glad our quilt show isn't until the 12th and that I wear masks in public. lol
Tonight we will have chicken, because we finally got some at the meat market.

I'm back ...
Becca, I love bread pudding! I make the one without alcohol, I use vanilla and rum extract I believe. I don't make it often because it makes a big batch.
Jaz, says she's feeling better. They have her quarantined to her room and bathroom, she's bored.
Holly isn't feeling good now. She's trying to get tested but not having any luck. No places are open on the weekends and 1 place in town from 12 to 3 on Monday's only, the other couple places that test are by appointment only and are 3 days out in appointment times. It's crazy that we don't have testing like other places. There's no home tests to buy either.
Jana, the solar part hasn't been started yet, I'll be calling Monday. We have our new furnace, geothermal AC and mini split all installed. We were told it would be finished by mid February and then it would be a matter of when PNM (or electric company) would hook it up. We have an email from PNM saying that as soon as construction is finished that the contractor needs to contact them and they'll get us all finished within 10 days of being notified.
I think you need to teach me how to make my own tortillas please, I have the tortilla press.
Carol, when my mom had the slice and dice on her nose she got the raccoon eyes, it made tears in my eyes to see her. I hope you heal quickly.
Velda, sounds like you had a nice treat. ❤ the ties sound like a good idea. Received you donation today, thank you so much. I'll get it deposited this next week, we don't go to town very often and we're quarantined until Tuesday at least.
I'm still working on laundry, I kinda spent more time outside than I planned to. Didn't get in my sewing room either. I had good intentions, does that count

Carol, I think quilting would be very restful for you.
Tina, flour or corn tortillas? With a press I bet you could whip up a batch in no time.
Mary, that is the quilt shop my friend goes to. She has family there, so she goes out quite often. The towel idea for Christmas gifts is perfect.
Becca, I too got my sheets washed and bed remade. I love fresh clean sheets.
Tina, I might do some hearts. The ones I'm making now are only 3 inches finished. They definitely will not work. And it's not a pattern I can size up.
I pulled out some background fabric for my elephant quilt. I'm pressing and cutting it now. I was going to make this one for my mom, but didn't quite get to it in time. I will give it to my niece who loves elephants.
Dinner will be cereal tonight. I made popcorn about 3:30 pm and now I'm not hungry.
Have a lovely evening.

It's really Sunday, almost 2:00, so good morning from a very nippy, SW. Pa.....I probably should have just started Sunday's post but Mary is so much better at it......I've finally gotten the suitcase packed and Kevin will be here at 8:00 to put it in the car for me.....I've found a great under roof parking garage and it's even cheaper than most of the others...When you pull in, they tell you which aisle to park in and as soon as you park, they are there with the shuttle ready to go to the airport...The fellow puts your luggage in the shuttle and when we get to the airport, he takes it out so I hardly have to bother much with luggage...My flight is at 12:45 but I'm stopping at Dan's on my way, just to make sure my grand cats are ok...Dan will be home very late tomorrow night and then he'll take over cat duty at my house.....My sister said, she'll be back up if needed...I talked to Kathy today while they were watching Dan scuba...She said, she wasn't ready to go home so she and Tim are staying another 5 days.....Well, still want to run the vacuum and then take a hot bath and then get a couple hours of sleep.....I probably won't even be able to check on you gals so try to behave while I'm gone....(Not sure how much bail money is in the fund but I might be needing it....)Catch you all in a couple of weeks.........
You all have a great rest of this day.........Please be careful if you have that nasty ice and white stuff......
