SUPPER CLUB - Tuesday, Dec 28

Post by purrfect-lady » Tue Dec 28, 2021 5:25 am

Good morning,

69* here, breezy and misty out and still dark. We always go for our morning walk just at the beginning of morning, so I better get typin'!

yesterday I sewed for about 5 hours. Actually, there's not much else to do. We're not going out to public places much because Covid is so rampant, even though we're triple vax'd. But I'm happy sewing. I made two lotto blocks and 10 little stars. I think I only have enough fabrics with me to make another 27 stars so that's probably 2 days of sewing. And I have another month to go (if Mr, Bill gets his way, 2 weeks if I get mine) after we leave Austin on Sunday and go further south. But no matter who wins, I still need more sewing projects so I think I'll mask up and visit the LQS today, looking for something. I have that Nativity quilt I got from QIAD about 4 weeks ago with the special ruler so maybe I'll look for some fabrics for that. It looks like it could keep me busy for a few weeks!

TINA - What did you end up doing yesterday? Get some quality time in your sewing room? I agree about Lotto. It will be nice, if we win, to win enough blocks to be able to make a real quilt. I like to donate my lotto quilts to my favorite causes. You should have been here for the sloppy joes. They were pretty good. We fried onions and ground sirloin burger and just added Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce. Yum! My friend sent me pictures of her snow so I can look at it when it gets too warm here. Or we can pull up our security cameras and look at our own snow - live!

BECCA - sounds like your D-Day was a lot of fun, plus they put away your Christmas things! That is really cool. I've found other places in the house to store the Christmas things I've kept so it's not so hard to get them, but there are still some under the stairway. I need to get rid of more stuff! Crawling on my hands and knees to drag totes out is much more adventure these days than I like!

CAROL - lol! I was only teasing about the Aaron/Antonio mix-up. it happens all the time to us! But we're getting better. Glad you got your quilt to your niece. Doesn't Miss Manners say we have up to a year to give a wedding gift? You're cool!

JANA - you are set to 'weather' your storm! It's kind of fun to play snowbound. Sometimes. For a short while. If you have lots of food, fabric, and fudge on hand.

LORI - yes, I had that barn fabric, but only for a couple of weeks! lol! I collect "building" fabrics and use them in all sorts of projects. So I just happened to have found that in the LQS that's only a mile from our RV park. The brick, too, which was on their clearance shelf. The rest was in my scrap tote I brought along with me. Sorry your son has to go home today, but from what you said, it sounds like he'll be back before too long.

As I've been typing, we've been talking over our supper options. I think we've settled on grilled cheese and soup. Probably tomato basil. I told Bill I could make a pot of chili, but he's all for the soup, so soup it is!

Good morning!

Oh the snow arrived with a vengeance! Right at afternoon commute time. It caused whiteout conditions for about 30 minutes. Glad we were home, watching if fall from inside a nice warm house! The roads were a mess! UDOT shut down, I-15 just south of the point of the mountain as a huge light standard fell over across lanes in the wind. Then as they were fixing that one, they also saw 4 more light standards with stress fractures and had to replace them as well. That took nearly 5 hours with the interstate shut down. Then the snow storm hit, right as they were finished. All of this was just out of Aaron's duty area, so they didn't call him in.

Dinner is meatloaf sandwiches and a bowl of soup. Michael likes tomato basil as well.

Mary - I too have a few pieces of fabrics for buildings. They come in handy for all kinds of projects. You could get to leave early, if you watch the storm windows for travel. They say we are in a pattern for snow every few days for awhile. Daniel is getting lots of rain where he lives in Northern California. The Sierras have almost twice as much snow too. I-80 was closed for a time because of snow.

Today is a just puttering around day here. It's Sarah's and Joseph 's anniversary on the 30th and they have reservations up at a B&B cabin outside of Ogden, in the mountains. Ethan is staying at Matt's house with the cousins. I am backup in case Ethan gets homesick. He won't. Matt will have lots of help and helpers in the basement finishing. The framing down there is almost complete. Then the wiring will start. The bigger boys have done much of the framing. Matt cuts the wall studs and the boys assemble and put that wall in place. Matt checks to make sure everything is plumb and square. They have done a good job. They are framing in a bathroom, kitchenette, a bedroom and play/ family room area and storage down there. Crenda is getting a craft room too.

Not much else here,
Stay warm!
Hugs,
Jana

Good morning!
Mary, I did get in my sewing room and started on my church and school house yesterday but I forgot we had an appointment to find out about solar and AC units for the house instead of using swap coolers. After that was done it was past lunch time and then we were going over all we learned about the solar and AC, we decided to go with this company. They're out of Cruces and have really good reviews and Kevin had checked them out too and he's pretty sure he's going solar too. Why not put our bright sun to work for us and help us stay cool too 😊 we also get a carport out of it because that's where they're going to mount all the solar panels. And best part is we're getting refrigerated air and we don't have to worry about finding people for the electricity part of installing and Frankie doesn't have to do all that work.... he was willing but it would've taken a lot of research and work installing them. Oh and the AC also has heat in case we ever need it, so that's a brand new furnace too. I'm pretty excited about it myself! My sewing room should be nice and cool in the summer now instead of 80+° in there, i can't be in there when it's that hot, I get sick feeling.
I was looking at that nativity pattern too yesterday LOL I was looking to see if there was a house I could use for the lotto.
I've never had sloppy joes with bbq sauce.
Jana, that basement sounds amazing! What memories they'll all have of working together and building it ❤
Oh goodness, sounds like there was no travel meant for that road yesterday and glad Aaron didn't have to go out there.
You have buildung fabrics? Sounds perfect to build a couple buildings for the lotto this month, hint hint 😉😉
We ended up with soup and grilled cheese last night, it hit the spot.
I'm not sure about tonight's supper, it's Dad's night so I try to make better suppers on his nights. He says whatever is fine but I still make an effort to make sure it's a balanced meal..... Frankie and me get kinda lazy about our suppers sometimes.

Mary, yes, DS left about 0630 this morning. He's been watching the weather and today was the best weather day to travel north. I'm am sad, but he'll be back in spring. Molly is still not sure the other dogs are gone. It usually takes her a couple hours before she'll come out. I have a few of those fabrics I bought a while back and they have come in handy for lotto blocks. Sounds like your weather is perfect.

Becca, it's nice when you can give things to people who like the same thing. And help putting away decorations is great.

Tina, yay! A/C is wonderful when it's hot outside. We keep ours at 78 most of the time in the summer if it gets hot. But mostly we like the windows and doors open.

Jana, hopefully everything will be cleared by the time Jonathan get to Utah this evening. Happy Anniversary to Sarah and Joseph. I bet they'll have a nice time.

Today I'll changes sheets, vacuum, dust, and just clean up. Then some sewing this afternoon. I need to pick up my glasses this morning. I had new lenses put in. But 1st Jack and Wrigley need to be walked.

Don't know what's for dinner yet.

Have a lovely day.

There's an old office saying - a clean desk is the sign of a sick mind, so if my Batt Cave is clean, does that apply as well? I have spent the morning straightening and putting away everything that is out of place. Even my desk area is clean! Put back patterns as well. The only thing out, staring at me is CR, waiting patiently in the wings for me to finish. Also dusted - boy I must be sick! LOL!

Sarah got her new stove today. It turned out that the company she purchased it from just got a bunch of the model she wanted in stock and it will be delivered on the 6th. They will haul away the old and install the new one. If the old stove finally bites the dust before then, she will come here and cook in my kitchen. Oh, it was on sale too.

Maryz - I found fabric for building today too. EQ8 has some houses (paper pieced). The one I liked is a 16 inch block which is a bit large. I have a book that has seven in blocks which would make it difficult to use with other blocks, but would be more in proportion. I am still working on it. I should resize the EQ8 bock and would be happy.

I watched a webinar today on maintenance of a HandiQuilter long arm. They talked more about the frame that the machine, but I did get a few pointers. Did you know the machine should be unplugged when not in use? Even with a surge protector they say unplug.

Tina - Hope you felt better today. I agree in keeping decorations up for a few more days and taking my time. I would like to put the Santa Clauses away though.

Jana - That is interesting about your name. My family called me Carol Ann until I was about twelve. My brother said Cale Ann, because like lots of kids had trouble with the “r” and “l” sounds. He was three when I was born, but kept the mispronouncing as he grew up. I am so glad the rest of the family didn’t adopt his way of saying my name.

Becca - You must be resting today too.

Lori - You must be missing your son today. Did you get the Christmas quilts finished?

Edit - Dinner was Autumn Soup.
Carol
