SUPPER CLUB - Friday, Oct 12th

Post by purrfect-lady » Fri Nov 12, 2021 6:09 am

Good morning,

We've got rain. Lots and lots of rain. Too bad we sold our canoe because before this "Pineapple Express" is over we may need it to get around the back yard! This storm originated near Hawaii so it's warm out - 57* - and VERY wet and goes on for a couple days. Hence the term, "Pineapple Express".

Yesterday we got the house cleaned, big grocery trip, and table extended and set for lots of company tonite. I even had time to trim some UFO blocks (Christmas swap and lotto winnings), and pull fabrics for sashing & borders. A Texas sewing project. Then I worked on my X-stitch. I REALLY want to get it finished before we roll out of here. I want to get a new one on my frame to take with me. Today, making chili for the crockpot. and cornbread. Vacuum the traffic areas. and more stitching until company arrives.

LORI - 90* in mid-November is just wrong! Too bad I can't share some rain and you can't share some of your degrees! Where in the mountains will you be for your sewing retreat? And just one bottle?? :D Explain potato tacos, please? Would they be potato skins filled with taco stuff? That sounds good! I make Irish nachos, occasionally.

JANA - those heated seats are great! And also the cooling feature in the summer. I use refried beans in my meatless tacos. I hate when Bill messes with my kitchen. Often if he just empties the dishwasher, I have to go on a scavenger hunt to find my utensils!

BECCA - you have some real talent in your family! Where does she do her concerts? Do groups hire her?
My second late DH was a musician and singer in his youth, also blue grass. His group even cut an album. But he didn't write any songs.

Well, I spoiled the surprise - you already know we're having chili and cornbread. What are you having?

Good morning!

Good Michael report. I posted it over in Sew in.

Dinner tonight will be with Aaron, Kate and the girls. Aaron saw the leg of lamb I found, so invited himself over. He loves lamb too. When he was little, he had a stuffed toy lamb, that did go everywhere with him. One time when I was cooking lamb for a fancy dinner, he broke down in tears, you can't eat my lambie. He didn't understand, so we always referred to leg of lamb as leg of mutton . He'd eat it then. Oh, what we do as parents! LOL! Aaron also at that age had a thing about gravy, would not eat it, . When I called it Jacque Pepin sauce, then he loved it!

I will be sewing a bit too today.

Ethan is over the achy parts of his vaccines. He was over helping me, earning Christmas money. I keep a running tab of what I owe him, then give it to him when he needs it.

Mary - that block is gorgeous! After the quilt is finished, you must enter it in the state fair. Then you could also enter it in other quilting competitions. When I took my LA class, there was a guest lecturer who showed her quilts and told us how this particular one, had won many quilt competitions and made her money. Then Drew can have it. But the down side, you have to ship it to competitions and we know how shipping is these days, especially at losing things!

Well, time to getting going,
Hugs,
Jana

Good early afternoon from a sunny, warm, SW. Pa...BUT, winter is fast approaching, like tomorrow! And there is even snow in that forecast...Yesterday day is was short and short sleeves, tomorrow or later today, sweats and knee socks...And then to further mix me up, this is November, isn't it????

Mary, I haven't even really begun my day and you have me worn out.....Maybe if I was having company, I'd be more on the ball but I don't think Baby Girl cares if I've chased those dust bunnies or vacuumed the carpets....You had asked about my upcoming trip with Kathy and Tim....WELL, it's a biggie, my sister and I are going to Hawaii and will be there for Thanksgiving...We will meet in San Jose, Kathy flying in from Reno and us from Pittsburgh, and would you believe, we land 20 minutes apart...She and Tim have all the arrangements made from there, thank goodness..I made our reservations from Pgh. and I keep telling my sister, it's hard to tell where we or she might land....She is still getting grief from her kids so this is a very good time to get her out of town.....

Jana, I've been trying to keep up with your family and so happy to hear Michael is on the road to recovery...And it sounds like good news with the rest of the family, lots to be thankful for this year....I like your idea of Ethan earning money, very good lesson which isn't taught too much these days.....

I've been thinking a lot about Chickie these days and hoping she's doing well...It must be so hard for someone that active to have to "slow down"....
And do you all remember Joanne from Ohio who also had a front porch swing...I think of her every Wednesday night when Survivor comes on....We used to joke about watching for the garbage men and UPS men, especially in the summer......Hope she and Earl are doing well.....

Oh well, now I'm running out of time...Have lots to do today and then of course our weekly card game tonight...It's my turn to make a goodie but so far nothing has popped into the old noggin...We always order our dinner, pizza, hoagies or something good, play cards and eat snacks and then have our goodie...I swear, each week, I gain weight just playing cards.......
Tomorrow, we might go back to the hoarder house, maybe for the last time before the estate person takes over....I really should have taken pictures, no one would believe what we got into.....

So for my dinner, order out!

You all have a great rest of the day.....

Hi everyone. Had an early appointment to get eyes checked for cataract surgery. Yes it's time. First eye to be done in December. The second in January. Wish I would have made this appointment back in July. Doesn't pay to procrastinate!! Could have had both done in this calendar year.
Didn't try to sew today with eyes dilated. Organized some pictures we saved out of the old albums from Dick's mother's pictures.
Now just relaxing.
Maybe I can sew tomorrow. Leftover chili from freezer tonight. Then left over biscuits n gravy tomorrow night.
Seriously cold weather for next few days. Definitely feels like December today.
Have a great afternoon.
HUGS, 💕 Vel

Mary, you just use cooked potatoes instead of meat in the taco.

Had a great time in Temecula today. Got a few things at the quilt stores and some yummy wines.

Tomorrow heading up to Green Valley Lake for some sewing time with friends.

I'll be cooking dinner tomorrow. I picked up meatball ravioli at an Italian market, I have some sauce and I'll make a salad and garlic bread to go with it. I'm also taking a bottle of red and a bottle of white. Hmmm...that reminds me of a song from the 70's.

Sleep well.
