SUPPER CLUB - Friday, Oct 22nd

Post by purrfect-lady » Fri Oct 22, 2021 5:41 am

Good morning,

Good news! Our Covid tests came back negative. Yay! We can come out of quarantine now and our plan is to go to Costco and the grocery store this morning. We are out of almost everything. We are also going to be looking for a place to get Moderna boosters. We called around and most places aren't ready to give them out yet since it was just approved.

Yesterday I got everything done I was planning. I think. Plus had a few hours to play around in my sewing room. This afternoon, I'm hoping to get pillowcases made for Gene. I found blue truck fabric and I'll use more Northern Lights fabric for the cuff with a red bandana print for the accent band. I know my brother and he will love all three of those fabrics!

BECCA - glad you got a new supply of books! I know you are a big reader - as am I. My home is decorated in books, quilts, and cats. :D I've heard some folks, including my sister, say acupuncture really helped them. Chickie says she is going to look into it, too, for her vertigo.

JANA - yes, I plan to take my LOTR blocks to Texas. I am in the process, now, of pulling fabrics for each block (I have 22 left to do) so I don't have to haul my entire stash. I'm also taking fabric for an Irish Chain, scraps for crazy quilt, the Star Bright I started during the summer (4-1/2" star blocks in 30's fabric), and donated comfort blocks to sew together. Not to mention my cross-stitch project. I will not be lacking for something to do! Last year I ended up running out of projects and going to the LQS several times for more.

CAROL - well, it sounds like your DH is going to be pretty busy! Retirement is an adjustment. If husbands don't have something to occupy them, it can get a little ... uh.... tense. Bill was used to supervising people. At home the only crew he had was the cat, the dog, and the wife. The cat, of course, listens to nobody. All the dog hears is walk, cookie, and supper. Guess who that left. Turns out after 60 years I didn't know how to do laundry, iron a shirt properly, arrange a kitchen, or cook onions among other things. I came THIS close to cooking onions in the big house for the rest of my life! We finally came to a compromise: He shut up and I let him live. So make sure he has his own stuff to do!

VELDA - glad all went well with your appointments, and you were able to get home at a reasonable hour.

Our chicken noodle soup last night was a winner so I'm thinking that will be on the menu again for tonite. I've never learned to cook for just two, so most times our meals stretch to two nights. And I like it like that!

How about you?

Good morning. What a great announcement that you were both negative. We also had Maderna shots. I figure it may be a week or two before they are available out here in the corn fields of Illinois. 😉
But also our doctor confirmed that going through the Covid break through like we did gave us an added ammunity for maybe 3 months. But she also told us, we should not let are guard down. This virus is mean and it mutates to try to survive itself and thatis why it is still a risk. So we take that advise to heart and keep wearing masks when we need to.
I took on an additional job of heading up our little Christian Card shop at church. Living right by the church, like we are now, it's a good job for me. So yesterday I took a look at what we have on hand. This is not a huge effort, but we always try to keep a variety available. It's all on honor system, but I need to keep track of the funds and gather $'s and give to our ladies group( Ruth Circle) treasurer. I set up a login with the web site where we have ordered in the past. Fun looking at all the available selections.
Going out for lunch today, so supper tonight will be leftovers from our freezer. No extra cooking today!! So maybe some sewing 🧵🪡 later on mission quilt tops.
I noticed when we were laying out the quilts in church sanctuary, that many of the quilts had poor tying technique. I talk with another gal and she agreed that we have a helper who needs some help to get her tying correctly. She is taking huge bites or stitches and then when she cinches the knot, it causes a big pucker and actually changes the finished size of the quilt. We have requirements of 60 x 80. We don't want all our efforts to get discarded if they don't match requirements. We aren't sure how strict they are, but it actually doesn't even look right to me. I just had to ask someone what was going on. With COVID, they were so short of helpers, I was never available during the winter, and no one wanted to embarrass her and cause her to quit helping. Sometimes you have to be careful about telling someone they are doing it wrong. Have to be so tactful.
I am going to take the quilt off my bed next time we all get together as an example. I hope that will help the whole group see just how it is supposed to look.
Wish me luck on that.
HUGS, 💕 Vel

Good morning!
Mary, you are a tornado of getting things done for sure!
I'm soooooo glad your test results were negative!
Becca, I have books everywhere too, some I read several times.
Carol, ditto what Mary said.... it can get a little iffy on going to the big house at times. I was getting advise all the time..... my iron skillet almost got used in a manner it wasn't intended for. It's getting better after about 20 months now..... but every once in awhile.....🤦‍♀️
Jana, I'm so glad to hear Micheal is getting better, they maybe baby steps but they're baby steps in the right direction 🥰
Velda, the card shop sounds like a fun job and how cool to be so close. I hope you can get through to your tying helper so she doesn't quit, people sometimes don't take helpful criticism well even when there's only good intentions with it.
We've been at Holly's house every day. Frankie got her washer working yesterday.... it's been limping along and what should've been a 45 minute load was taking over 3 hours at times so you can imagine with 5 people and her working full time how badly her laundry got behind. So I've been trying to get a few loads done during the daytime for her. Yesterday after the washer was fixed I zoomed through 4 loads plus brought home her king size quilt to wash so it could be hung on my line to dry, she doesn't have a clothesline so when she needs something hung out she usually just runs over here with it. I think I have all the towels and bedclothes washed now. There's still more regular clothes to do, I may do a couple more loads for her today while Frankie works on the dishwasher, it has him stumped so far. Next will be the water heater. At least it's keeping him busy. He did get all her garbage bags hauled to the transfer station yesterday so that job is done for awhile 🤞
For supper I'd like to eat out but I'm not sure yet.... we'll see.

Good morning!

Oh I remember well when Michael finally retired. He worked from home for about ten years before he retired and it's now another ten years since his retirement. Well almost retirement, as he still consults for the company. So I had plenty of time getting learning not to do harm! He still has a tendency to rearrange my kitchen. I let him have one cupboard that he fusses with, the rest he does not touch! So far, he has trained up well. Engineers are a different species than anything on this earth! And I have four of them to deal with!

Good report on Michael yesterday. They took away his O2 for several hours to see how well he maintained his O2 number. The O2 number held for that time. A good thing. They didn't have him moving around his room, just sitting in the bed. So today will be more of the same. Rumor has that he may get released on Monday or Tuesday.

Scott , a computer engineer, will come over this weekend and set up Michael's upstairs computer to act together with the downstairs computer, so Michael can do things on both, with not going up and down the stairs for awhile. The upstairs computer is older and will act like a remote terminal. We have three desktop computers in this house , along with a smart phone and two tablets. Sheesh! And that's not even counting the printers here as well, there are three of those!

Aaron and the little girls are coming this morning to mow the lawn. It's quite shaggy. It will be a learning experience, as Aaron has never driven the tractor. He'll figure it out. I am sure after he is done, he will hook up the trailer and take the girls on a ride around the yard. All the kids love to ride Grandpa's tractor l

Dinner - I made a twice baked cheesy potato for dinner last night and only ate half, so that will be warmed up for tonight. Still a small piece of chicken too.

Mary - Yay for the negative test! Sounds like there will be lots of projects to choose from in Texas.

Tina- Frankie is a wizard! Keeping everything running is a talent!

Vel - living next to the church keeps you involved in everything! We too live about 1/2 block from the church, but, hey, so does most of my Ward here too. LOL! We keep an eye on the building from my back deck.

Well, time to get busy,

Hugs,
Jana

Well, the good news is, Michael will be home late tomorrow afternoon! Sarah is leaving Disneyland very early in the morning, driving straight through and will pick up Michael around 5 pm tomorrow. Aaron is the backup to bring him home. Michael also went all night on no extra O2 and the numbers held. He will still need the O2 here at home, when he moves around for awhile.

Sarah also found Michael's Christmas present at Disneyland. It's a Lego train that is very similar to one that ran on his grandfather's railroad. This is something he can build with all the grands.

Gracie and Lila are making a Welcome home sign for him to put on the garage door. Guess I need a run to the grocery store today.
