SUPPER CLUB - Friday, Aug 20

Post by purrfect-lady » Fri Aug 20, 2021 6:23 am

Good morning!

Yesterday was a great day! I enjoyed a visit with a good friend over breakfast, and worked on my Halloween blocks. Then our second Boondockers pulled in - a lovely couple from FL - a retired dr and his wife. We 'clicked' right away. It was their first time using a Boondocker site and except for the folks the night before it was also ours! We invited them up onto our deck for a glass of wine and visited for a while. They brought a bouquet of roses for us!! I think they are off exploring town today. They plan to stay at least one more night and explore the area. We actually have a limit of 2 nights, but that's easily extended if we really like our campers. :D

I have an appt for a haircut this morning - so long overdue! And then I need to reorganize our back pantry to make room for pickles. After that I will work on Halloween swap blocks. I have them all ready to fuse to the background squares. I might even have time start stitching them down.

JANA - Sorry your knee was giving you fits again. Some folks swear by Arnica cream. I've used it and sometimes it helps and sometimes I see no difference. Depends on the person and on the type/cause of the pain. But worth a try. . . I can't believe all the rain you are getting. And we had about 7 drops 3 days ago. Sigh. Cute little boy at the train shop. Those little vignettes of life always brighten my day,

BECCA - well, I guess now you know what to do when your BP drops too low - reflect on your hospital experiences! But there's simply no excuse for all you have endured. I'm suspecting your hospital choices are limited, too . . . Good luck to your CA today as he gets his tooth pulled.

CAROL - my goodness! you sound busier with meetings about quilting than you are with quilting itself! There used to be a quilting group (I wouldn't call it a guild) in Gig Harbor. They met in the community rooms at the library, though I don't know if the library is even open now after being closed for a year.

I'm thinking of making spaghetti for supper tonite. I start with a jar of sauce and doctor it up and let it simmer for a while. Salad and garlic bread should round out our supper. I MAY make an orange pie, too. We might invite our Boondockers to join us. It's too early to make decisions of that magnitude!

What supper decisions are happening at your house?

Good morning!
I was here to read yesterday right after Mary posted and then I felt guilt for my backyard needing attention so off I went. I weed eated, pulled weeds, raked, cleaned, used the leaf blower and then watered everything out back. It looks great! I was exhausted and hurting so came in and soaked in the tub. We ate lunch and I sat down to read the rest of the posts and fell asleep! 🤣😂 I slept for 30 minutes and then my alarm went off to go pick up the boys because Holly had a meeting after school. After they went home I watered the front yard shrubs and trees and plants. Then it was supper time and I was too tired to cook and didn't even feel like eating so I had cereal and Frankie had leftovers from the fridge.
Mary, sounds like your boondockers are enjoying your place and surroundings. You should have Bill make a little "places to see" paper for a handout to future guests. I hope your pickles turn out, they're a lot of work but so worth it. When I make pickles then Holly and Kevin and his friends are always ready for them LOL
Well I have to hurry, Frankie went to check a tractor out for his cousin and I have to get ready to take the dogs to the groomer. Maybe I'll have me and my sewing room alone time when I get back hehe.
Supper tonight will be chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes and gravy and green beans.

Good late afternoon from warm, sunny, SW.Pa....Not sure if we're to get rain but I have a feeling, our forecasters just put it in the forecast just to cover their butt.......It's been a crazy couple of days and doesn't seem to be ending...Yesterday we did have bingo and neither my sister or I wan anything but we did have a good time...Then gift cards in hand, we went to Bob Evans for dinner...It seems everyone gave my sister a gift card for her birthday and I get to help her use them...She really has a stack from every place you could think of.....
But, do have to tell you a good story...On Wed. I needed to pick my RX at Walmart but when I got there it wasn't ready so I shopped and then came...There was a line but the gal, called me up, had the script and also gave me a hug...Then when I left, I noticed not too many cars in the Chic fil a drive thru so why not...Love, love their sandwiches...I order a sandwich and a small Mac n cheese and then the sweet gal that took my order said, "This order is on me"...I was pleasantly surprised and even shed a tear or 2...

Since Kathy will be planning our travels, my sister needed to renew her passport...Well, you can't just walk in the Post Office and have them do it...No, you have to make an appointment on line or call the court house and they'll tell you the best site to go on....SO, picture and old passport in hand, my DSis stopped in for me to figure it out....It was basically simple, we copied everything and now all she has to do is write out the check and mail everything in...They are saying, don't wait till last minute, takes about 3 months or longer......I'm thinking about putting up a sign outside, offering "Help for getting a Passport"
My cat sitter is away for 10 days, so I'm back in the sitting business...She'll be home a few days before I'll need her services.....She also practically emptied her fridge and I came home with a bag full....I like this way of shopping, lol..

Mary, love to hear all about your happenings...I think it's so neat to be able to invite the "boondockers ...I like Tina's idea of a handout, telling about all the fun things around you....But, I'm also thinking, word gets out about a glass of wine and possibly spaghetti, you're going to have lots of company.....I haven't made pickles for years but the ones I made were Kosher dill and so darn good...Not that I'm going to do any canning but might have to get out the recipe...My sister's daughter in law posted about canning tomato soup, yummm I did mention the relish and salsa made with green tomatoes...I haven't made it for a few years but now Kathy has taken over and her newly refurbished garage has no car in it but shelves are packed with her jars....Tim didn't put in a very big garden this year, mainly because they were to do a lot of traveling and also he has a bad knee..Getting it replaced on Monday, thank goodness......

Tina, it's no wonder you were worn out...Just thinking about it, makes me tired....I was going to try to get outside and do battle with some weeds, but Sis put the stop to that nonsense, lol.....So, hopefully, I'll get outside tomorrow....

Becca, After you've been married for years, it's a funny or sad day...The only time I was by myself was weekends Jim would go to South Bend to watch Notre Dame football...It really hit me hard when Jim needed to go to the Memory unit...He was there 9 months before he passed...Even after 3 years, I still reach for him at night....BUT, so glad CA is OK....You mentioning your hospital's billing system got me thinking and sure enough, remember having to "fight" with a couple of our bills, me when I had Covid and of course when Jim needed to go to the ER....Billing should be simple but then if the person is "simple" while entering data, a mess happens.....

Jana, hate to hear you're hurting...I've been using Voltarin or Salonpas , seems to help...Feel better soon.....

This week we decided to play cards here at my house...I sure didn't feel like baking anything so I ran to the Dollar General and got a strawberry, cream cheese mix....It's my "go to" when I'm in a pinch, so good and so easy......

We will be having pizza tonight and then a wild night of cards...Last week it was 4:00 in the morning when I got home, this week, hopefully earlier.....

You all have a great rest of the day......

Hi there y'all!

Sarah just left to go get Ethan from school. We have been playing with the embroidery for the neighbor Christmas gifts. They are turning out stinking cute, if I do say so myself! Had a few technical difficulities in the beginning with the cone thread on my machine, but remembered that I had a cone thread holder and that solved all those problems. We even figured out a easy way for the placements with out having to measure each time. We have a few to make, between Sarah's list and mine. But I have time!

Dinner - who knows - you know what happens when yo get on a roll of a project, dinner is not on that list! LOL! Maybe the car knows the way to something.

Kate and the little girls just stopped by. The dresses she ordered for the wedding arrived and Lila's is about 6 inches too long. So Grandma and Sarah will shorten it. Easy peasy - serger on the lining and just cut off the netting that's too long. Kate knows a little sewing, so we will teach her and have her do some as well. Also ordered some really cute sparkly shoes for the dresses. Then of course, I found two more dresses for the little girls that match the shoes. Grandma is a pushover! LOL!

Well, it's time to change out to another towel,
Hugs,
Jana
