SUPPER CLUB - Sunday, Feb 28th

Post by purrfect-lady » Sun Feb 28, 2021 7:25 am

Good morning!

Another dry, albeit cloudy, day here and going to break 50*. Again! And several more days like this in the forecast! Whoo Hoo! The older I get, the more excited I get to see spring coming. I can't wait for DST to kick in! Another hour of daylight!

Yesterday Bill removed the old vanity and it went into my sewing room. He attached a new top (using old plywood scrap that just happened to be the exact size needed) and I covered it with batting, Insulbrite, and muslin. I'm sure Mr. Foxtrot will notice it soon - a new surface that he hasn't tried out yet for a nap. Now Bill is working on removing the old flooring - a BIG job. I went on a big grocery shopping trip, came home, and made some snackies for friends who came over about 4:30 for happy hour. We got Subway sandwiches and cut them into smaller servings with a fruit and relish tray to go with. Made for a light supper and a good visit. And the pork chops and scalloped potatoes got put on the back burner - again.

JANA - did Sarah get any definitive answers from her doctor appts last week? I bet she was happy to finally get into your turkey and noodles! Smudge sounds like a very sweet kitty! Give him a snarfle for me, too! And a kiss on top of his head. I got all my DWR pieces unsewed an resewed using a blanket stitch. They look much better. Today I plan to put them together - 3 12" blocks plus 8 side arcs - into a tablerunner.

BECCA - sorry you didn't find any Monica Ferris. I really think you'd like them. I think I have the whole set but I've collected mine over the years at thrift shops. But I haven't been in a thrift shop since Covid began. I've read that the trick to using invisible thread is to NOT use it in the bobbin, but to use a neutral sewing thread there. Invisible thread is not bobbin friendly.

TINA - That's too bad about the farmer to your west. His topsoil is just blowing away! Not to mention what it's doing to the neighbors. I hope the county attorneys are able to get some relief for you. Does he have a list of neighbors who have complained? And what Lori asked - are your packaged projects just in the planning stage or have you already "broken ground" on them?

LORI - I'd like to see a hawk try to take a golden retriever! We watched a big owl swoop over my Riley kitty several years ago. I ran out and scooped her up and brought her inside. I'm glad you are enjoying the JN class. Looking forward to your next report. Did you get homework?

CAROL - I didn't know you were doing a Lonestar. So is Lois. Did you see the beautiful lone star on the cover on the most recent CT catalog? SOOO pretty! What colors are you using? Is this quilt for you or ?? I am confident you can finish it in March. Put on your Superquilter cape.

Well, I think I already mentioned our planned supper - pork chops and scalloped potatoes. I hope it happens tonite. Other plans have evolved the last two nights to put our chops literally on the back burner, but tonite's the night!

And what is everyone else having?

Good morning!
Mary, DLS is my enemy LOL I do not like it, I prefer regular or God's time as I like to call it. Didn't you say you cooked your pork chops 2 days ago? Maybe I'm confused.....I only do leftovers as a rule for 3 days...... every ounce in awhile a 4th day but 99% of the time 3 days is max.
My quilts are just in the fabric and pattern stage, no cutting of fabric yet. I usually don't cut all the material for a quilt until I make a test block.....I did that once, it didn't work the way the pattern said so I have a big pile of cut fabric to try to figure out what to make from it.
I'm not sure about supper yet because I'm not sure if it's just us 2 or Jazmyne too, she's been here since Friday. She's been spending lots and lots of time here, she'd like to just live with us so I just ask on a daily basis if she can stay again, so far the answers have been yes. She does go home for a few nights during the week but she's here everyday for school.

Good morning,

I'm well on my way to having my DGD's quilt top together. On line church service begins in about 1/2 hour. After that I will continue sewing the A and B blocks together to make the C block for the "Lover's Knot".

No decisions have been made about supper for tonight. I have one more serving left from my pork chops. I was thinking about using it to make a sandwich for lunch and figure out something else for supper.

Good morning!

Mary - no definitive answers for Sarah. The good news is no lupus, no rheumatoid arthritis. Just no answers. But that is what always is what the tests show. Sarah is still being fussed with the tooth implant. The DDS just hasn't made it small enough to fit. They will try again in a week or two. Glad the invisible thread worked. And yes, never use it in a bobbin!

Tina - it is nice to be so loved and that Jaz loves being at your home. She is developing a special bond with her Grandma that will be forever!

MaryRose - Sarah dis a lovers knot quilt once and it is a lovely pattern! You will be done in no time.

Dinner will be our brunch usual. And I have noodles left from last night for a late munchies if needed. Sarah made rolls, and left some for us too.

May get to sew later this afternoon, after I am done teaching.

Slowly, I am remembering all the tricks in making a Lone Star quilt. One is, make a muslin template of the finished size of the big diamond points. That's the one, after all the little diamonds are sewn. It becomes your guide to press that diamond and know it is the right size, and whether you need to tweak something. I used my template on my ironing board, to stab pin the sewn diamonds on. Also, starch the bejeevers out of the diamond. It helps stabilize those biases.

Time for church, need to scoot,
Hugs,
Jana

I'm back! I just wanted to let you all know that my closet it finished! Yay! πŸŽ‰πŸ₯³πŸŽ‰πŸ₯³
Maryrose, it's going to be totally gorgeous! Have you thought how you're going to quilt it yet?
Jana, I really do enjoy having her here, I let her be a kid....I encourage her to just be a kid! She's 13 and will turn 14 in July and you know how that goes, they want to hurry and grow up but still like doing kid things. She's been a really big help in helping fold all my FQ's and helping me get things sorted. I always make sure to ask her if she wants to help me but make she to tell her she doesn't have to.....I think she's made to do too much at home.
Here's me final pics 😊😍πŸ₯°πŸŽ‰πŸ₯³

Here is the picture of my Lone Star. The pattern was by Kimberly Einmo. I used a jelly roll (plus background) to make it. It was not difficult to put together and it was fun! I highly recommend her method. I will be quilting this quilt in March.

Tonight's dinner will be Roasted Chicken and Mashed Potatoes.
