SUPPER CLUB - Saturday, Feb 6

Post by purrfect-lady » Sat Feb 06, 2021 7:23 am

Good morning

We are breezy this morning but so far no rain. 30% that it's coming though. But our afternoon should be partly sunny and 48*. If our 18mph wind dies down, maybe I'll go back outside and do some more yard work then. I worked out yesterday for 2-1/2 hrs raking old leaves, weeding, and fertilizing the rhodies and other shrubs. Lots more to do, though we've simplified our yard a lot so it's not so hard to keep up now. I also got some sewing in. Today - sewing, maybe yard work. We have too many large trees to be outside if it's windy. Bill thinks he'll be done quilting Norm and Nanette so I will have another binding to do, too. I'm hoping he'll keep on keeping on. There are 3 more tops to quilt. Though one (state birds) will be a combo of his computerized patterns and my freehand stippling.

BECCA - Your post yesterday made my mouth water! So much yummy at your house!

MARY ROSE - I think applying for SS Disability might be a consideration, but you probably have to have a diagnosis first. And I wonder what that would do to your HD retirement. I am praying daily for things to work out for you.

IRISH - I hope your sis decides to downsize if that's what she wants. We finally realized our kids are all better off than we are so we do what we want with no consideration as to how it will affect them. Bill's uncle denied him (and his wife up until she died 5 yrs before him) everything, lived in a little 800' house that was falling down around his ears, saying he couldn't afford anything. Turns out he left a 3 Million dollar estate! Sad he didn't spend a little on himself! Oh, and I'm praying for those little eaglets that their parents return soon. I bet there are a lot of eyes on that camera!

TINA - your post exhausted me, so I can only imagine how tired you were at the end of your day! We saw the news about your officer shooting. I felt so badly for his young wife with soon to be four kids. Been there, barely survived that. Is there a fund being set up for her and the kids?

LORI - about the tamales, the last ones I ordered at Moctezuma's were the ones that were all masa and little meat. And up here, most Mexican restaurants don't even have tamales on the menu. So I really think I'm going to give them a try. If I get stuck I can always call Tina!

Last night's supper was red beans and rice, a traditional Cajun meal. I was actually following a real recipe but, being who I am, I went rogue and added Rotel tomatoes and diced green chilies, which are traditionally Mexican or Southwest. Is this what they mean by Fusion Cuisine? Anyway, it was really good. Bill liked it a lot, so I noted my additions on my recipe. Good thing, because we ended up with a large pot of it so that will be on the menu for tonite, too. And a salad.

What's your plan for tonite's feast?

Good morning!
I want to do some yard work but the winds keep kicking dirt up plus we have a farmer who waited till windy season to start leveling virgin land, ugh the dirt is visible up in the air for miles and miles and it's just ¼ of a mile west of us. Of course the wind blows from the west, southwest, we get covered.
Mary, yep I was exhausted. So far I haven't heard of a fund for his wife and kids but I think everyone is still in shock. At 11 last night I looked out my window and you could see nothing but emergency lights for as far as you could see on I-10, they were escorting him home.
Jazmyne stayed the night so not sure what we're doing today but I know vacuuming and dusting is on the agenda. I have that toddler quilt to get loaded and get to quilting, a binding to put in a Valentine wall hanging for Holly and I need to take a quilt top apart to half it in the middle so I can fit it on my Moxie, I wasn't thinking when I did that final seam.
I'll have to search the freezer to see what's for supper.

Hi girls. I will be very low key today. I've already had a bad episode of pain and difficulty breathing this morning. It has eased up now though. Hopefully I will be able to go to my happy place for a while. If not, I will take a nap.

Tina, I hate when our wind kicks up like that. Enjoy your day with Jaz.

Mary, apparently we have another leave of absence option beside the disability with HD benefits. The system however, is not allowing me to access it. I called the opening manager this morning and let him know because the associate support person (HR) is not in today. He said he would see what he could find and print off the packet and bring/send it to me. If this avenue is denied I will work on the SS disability option and look into the early retirement again.

Supper tonight is up in the air for now. I haven't felt like figuring out yet this morning.

They wouldn’t eat as they were going to see the twins And they came loaded like always Lots of goodies for CA & ginger cookies for me So we are set for a while
Now it’s time for meds job
Tina Yesterday I got tired reading about your day Do hope the community rallies around that family and helps them all they can That’s so sad for all
Rosebud I feel for you It took CA so long to get approved and he had a stroke You most always have to get an Attorney to get on disability He was turned down when we tried on our own It’s the system they use
Praying you get results physical & financial
Both
It was a joy to sit & laugh & talk with family
Hope everyone has great day

Mary, I think tamales wouldn't be that hard to make if you just doing a dozen or so. You can buy the masa prepared or unprepared here. We like the beef ones, so I would need a good recipe for the inside.

Becca, you are so right. Laughing and hanging with family is the best.

Tina, bummer about the dirt everywhere. We get that when the winds blow here, because we have so little rain.

My Janome threader was jammed, so I took it in and they had it fixed in a hour. Yay! I did buy a small machine while I was there. Elnita C60 (Elna.) It's a small machine I can take places. It has a threader and thread cutter. I tried it out and it will be okay. I've know the store owner for years and he swears the Elna and Jamone's are the same. I disagree. I've sewn on Janome for 25 years and they are quite different.

Dinner was burgers on the bbq. They came out perfect.

Have a lovely evening.
