Supper Club - Monday, Jan 11

Good morning!

Looks like we dodged a lot of snow. My sister got 6 inches on Saturday. There was snow in many of the towns we drove through in the past four days. Even Autumn had snow down in Austin. She sent us a picture of herself out in the yard where we had just been partying the week before in warm sunshine. The snow made her birthday extra special.

We have enjoyed our day off here. Got loaded up with a fresh oranges we picked ourselves, did some reading, and I did a little stitching. Even foxtrot got to get out for a little while and explore. He wasn’t happy when I put him back into the trailer when we went to pick oranges. When we came back I found muddy paw prints all over my new cross stitch project. Circumstantial evidence, I know, but I am pretty sure I know who did it.

We’re back on the highway again today for 350 mi. to Calusa Casino in the town of Colusa. We’ve often stayed in their parking lot. Usually when we get free parking at a casino we patronize the restaurant. However, when there are pandemics going on, we generally eat in our trailer.

Mary Rose, how are you feeling? So thoughtful of your coworker to come by and check on you and bring you soup and fruit. I like all three of those patterns. I have made garden walk and Tennessee waltz. TW is one of my favorite go to patterns. But I think lovers not is very appropriate for a wedding quilt. Unless you wanted to go the double wedding ring route... i’ve never made one of those yet but it is on my to do someday list.

Tina, your ham sliders sound delicious! Were they the kind that you make and heat in a casserole in the oven?

Jana, we all knew you would do great! I remember, now that you mentioned it, that you make a fancy grilled cheese. I always meant to try that too but never remember. Now you’ve mentioned it again and reminded me! Yum!

Since we were parked for a day I was able to cook potatoes and eggs and make a potato salad for tonight. We will have hotdogs and green salad as well. Our stew last night was pretty good and I froze the leftovers for another quick meal either on the road or when we get home.

Do you have a dish in mind for your dinner tonight!

Good morning Mary z. Safe travels for the next 350 miles. I have made 2 DWR quilts already. Since Alexis likes the look of the Lover's Knot quilt, that is the one I will make for her and John Luke. The pattern is not hard. It only looks hard until you examine it a section at a time.

My chest is still pounding and my heart racing when I start moving around.

Supper tonight will be another bowl of canned soup.

Mary, I know someone in Colusa. Arlene Arnold of Heritage Oak Quilts. She's a quilt teacher, historian. She is a kick if you ever get to take a class from her. The quilt I made that went to Houston, was her pattern. She was thrilled that I used it. Safe travels. That's quite a drive.

Mary/Rose, I sure hope they can figure out what's going on with you.

Becca, sounds like a good day to stay inside.

Well yesterday I made chicken noodle soup and corn bread. I made extra chicken and have it marinating in El Pato sauce. I'll use that to make flautas tonight. I have leftover Spanish rice from a couple days ago to go with it.

I'm going to make binding today, I have 2 lap quilts in need and 1 more on Moxie that will need it. I'm trying to figure out something to put up on my left side when I do bindings on the quilts.... it's a battle keeping them pulled up on my sewing table so they don't tug the other way. I asked Frankie if he could make me a flip up type table that I could use just for that.... so far he's not liking that idea. I may see what else I can figure out.....

Hi there!

My, time slipped away from me today. I have laundry going and made a dent in the kitchen. Sarah was here and wanted to make cucumber dip. So I taught her how and my counters are a mess! Also been re-wrapping and putting away all my Christmas ornaments. Yes, I am still at it. I have three trees I decorate and stupidly decided to count just how many ornaments I do have. Well, when I reached 500, I stopped counting! I still have a few more, but not that many. I did break one of my very old, it was at least 80 years, today, so those are getting scarce.

Dinner - something easy and I think tacos fit that bill.

Mary - If I remember right, there were some big fires earlier this year in the Colusa area. Took part of the town, if I remember right. One Daniel was out on. You will be back in tree country shortly! Oh that Foxy! Better keep a bottle of Grandma's Secret Spot remover in the camper. It really works!

MaryRose- such a sweet co-worker! Keep bugging the doctor, don't let things slide!

Tina - would a small sawhorse type of thingy help? Maybe Frankie would go for that idea. It could be folded and put away when not in use. But as quickly as you are doing those quilts, it will be needed a lot!

Lori - it's probably for the best with FIL. And your house too.

Well, laundry dinged and my bread pudding is getting close to being done, I can smell the cinnamon! So need to get going.

Good late afternoon! I have been trying to clean up my sewing room, but I keep finding projects. I made heart potholders for the girls, and I started a quilt for one of the babies due this year. I need to make an LQS run for fabric for the inch border I want to put around it before a 3” border.

As usual, I get busy and flat out forget to get here. MaryZ scolded me for all the things I’ve been missing while AWOL. OOPS!

MaryZ—I feel for you and your Aida cloth! Odie went out and dug in stinky (some kind of dead animal) mud the other evening and ran back in and got stench all over the throw I was using on the sofa. He, my clothes and me, and the throw all got washed! I consider myself fortunate he learned a lesson and hasn’t repeated the incident! No snow here—just cold! The last few mornings have found the pond ice glazed when we get up. It melts in the afternoon on sunny days.

Jana—we have geothermal HVAC. Our coils are at the bottom of our pond. It is more efficient (cheaper) than regular air pumps. I love rice krispie treats and can’t leave them alone. I need to add parm to my grilled cheese. I use mayo inside and out and different cheeses, pickles and tomatoes. DH is a traditionalist.

MaryRose—sure hope you are feeling better soon! I do like the lover’s knot quilt! Soup is always good !

Tina—yum to the sliders! Your quilt is wonderful—love the straight line quilting! Can you use your ironing board for a quilt holder? I use mine when I quilt; now I need to us it when I do bindings.

Becca—I can’t imagine not being able to eat grapefruit! I can eat soup any time of the year, but especially when it’s cold! I’m going to make ham and beans. I got a ham at the store and had to cut it in 4 pieces and freeze some. That means 4 pots! It was the smallest half ham with bone that I could find! Hard to cook for two.

Lori—so sorry you had to give up having your dad at home. I know what it is like. We had MIL with us before our house fire. She was quite the handful with her dementia coming on, and just daily care. It’s not an easy decision. Your dinner sounds awesome!

Dinner here… DH has a pork chop and apples. There is also rice and some broccoli. I’ll probably have a salad and maybe make my personal rice, broccoli and cheese casserole for a side. Tomorrow night will be ham ‘n beans with cornbread.

Just in case you try my grilled cheese - it normal cheese between the bread and I put mayo on the outside, then the parm goes on that outside mayo layer. Just flip often, so you don't burn the parm. Worksbest with a sturdy sliced read.
