Good morning!
Pearl Harbor Day. I wasn’t born yet but 4 of my 5 siblings were. I won’t forget.
I got out of my scrubs yesterday and was going to go back to my 5 inch crazy blocks. I got five made, laid them out next to the finished one I brought from home. They were too small! I cut all my base muslin squares at 5 inches and they should have been 5 1/2 inches. This matters because 1/3 Of the quilt is already together at home.

. So I put it all away for now.
Not sure what I will work on today. I am considering using leftover pine tree fabric-the background of my fox quilt-and make pillowcases for my sister.
Lori, I saw your boys pictures on Facebook, all dressed up for for Christmas. Such sweet faces! Too bad humans aren’t more like your boys! And yes, that reindeer quilt was pretty quick and a lot of fun to do. I love it. I used a small zigzag to sew on the appliquéd reindeer. You said you would probably do different colors on your next one. What colors would you use?
Jana, we never had an aluminum tree but I used to see them in windows a lot. My dad was a logger. He owned quite a bit of property, all heavily wooded. We just always went out in the woods to cut a tree. When he retired, he planted a Christmas tree farm. There was no shortage of green trees in my life. Any word on Sarah‘s flooring? I know she would love to have the project complete before her surgery.
Becca, I don’t know that I am especially fast at sewing quilts. There isn’t much else to do here. Except for Thanksgiving day it’s been too cold to do much outside. And with Covid we go nowhere except grocery store. So I sew. A lot.
Last night our security cameras at home alerted us. About 5:30 PM, PST, A police car brought Vicki home. We watched as he carried in about 12 shopping bags and then four or five heavy boxes that we assume were presto logs. Normally our cameras wouldn’t pick up motion that far away but there was a lot of activity as the officer made trip after trip after trip carrying things into the house. Makes me wonder how she shopped, how she thought she was going to get it all home, and what kind of scene she made going through the checkstand that got the police involved. The nearest store is 2 1/2 miles away. We let Ben know as this is the type of thing he is documenting.
I don’t know what dinner will be tonight. Half the time we end up sharing unplanned meals with my sister. I have some cooked potatoes in the fridge so perhaps I will make a potato/chicken/Pea cheesy casserole and a salad. Or maybe One dish Pasta with kielbasa.
And you?

Good morning!
Not even really up yet, but know our dinner - broccoli, tortellini and kielbasa, with Swiss cheese sauce. 9ne pot, super easy!
Mary - Sarah 's floor is still AWOL. She gets tracking info, and Home Depot is not being nice, after losing the first order. If it isn't here this morning, she is thinking of canceling the order and in fact, found a new place to get the flooring from, with much better customer service. This is quite a large order, more than 40 boxes! Sarah has been quite nice, but, her patience is now worn thin!
The big tree is up and in place. Ethan will add ornaments today. My other grands like to help, but they think it is a race to hang ornaments and this tree has ornaments that are anywhere from now to 80 or 90 years old and those ornaments are glass. I still have one ornament that is 105 years old. It lives on a stand in my curio cabinet. It is the last one from when my mom was a little girl. Nothing fancy, just a gold glass ball.
Uglies, major straightening and laundry. Then I may get to sew in the Batt Cave.
I remember learning about Pearl Harbor. I have a cousin that survived being on the USS Arizona. Sarah with the high school marching band, did a tour of the memorial when they were in Hawaii and Sarah laid a wreath in a ceremony there. Every year, Mt Diablo lights a beacon from a old lighthouse on the top of the mountain, on this day. You can see that beacon all over the Bay Area. The lighthouse no longer is needed or works, but a team of volunteers do this lighting every December 7th. My brother, Tommy, was born, just two weeks later, on the 20th.
Stay Safe!
Hugs,
Jana

Mary, I was thinking maybe 1800 reproductions fabrics. Or just different greens and maybe something to pop for the reindeer. Nothing set in stone yet. Not going to even think about that until next year.
Jana, we never had a foil tree. We always had fresh trees. One year we did get one flocked. It made a mess. My mother always loved tinsel. We could only put 2-3 strands on at a time. It took forever, but it looked really nice.
Well I completely forgot I was making lasagna yesterday with my friend until I was getting ready for the park walk. We ended up with 15 lasagnas. That's our new record. I think we might have to cut the number back for next year. Finding room in the freezers was a challenge. I brought 3 home.
I have the sheets in the wash. Now to get my walk in. I have some cleaning to do today, and I think I'm going to buy a carpet cleaner. I usually rent them, but the last few times the machines were not cleaned and I had to do that before using them. I found one at Home depot in stock. I'll pick it up today.
For dinner we might throw something on the grill. I haven't decided yet.
Have a lovely day.

Hello everyone cloudy with snow close by
We never had nothing but live trees We would go out in Woods or field & cut our own We usually had a cedar I never had an artificial one until a few years ago
When I was home we always s used tinsel We put it on One strand at a time It was time consuming but very pretty when you finished
Artificial trees are not my cup of tea but I can get it out & get it up the steps all by myself That’s why I have it
Lori The lasagna sounds great to have on hand
Jana Aaron never runs out of narrow escapes Hope Sarah gets her floor very soon
Maryz I’m sure it does give you a lot more time not going out I think that’s why I got mine done early this year
Sure hope Vicky gets help soon She sounds like a threat to herself and everyone else close by
I have a package to get packed & mailed That’s a big chore here
We are having white beans (soup beans) steamed cabbage & cornbread
Have a great day to all. Becca

Good early afternoon from a cold, dreary, yucky (weather wise) SW. Pa....It really looks like it could snow but none in the forecast but then that doesn't mean anything....It is the kind of day to stay inside and stay warm......
Mary, Live trees and tinsel brought back a lot of memories...Growing up, we always had a live tree and then we'd plant it in the spring...And my Mother was a fanatic about the tinsel, yep, 3 strands and no more and they had to be put on so they hung perfectly..After Jim and I married, we did get cut live trees and of course had the tinsel but as the years went by, that tinsel didn't hang so perfectly and then the kids would decorate, on my! When I was packing up to move, going through the old Christmas stuff, sure enough, I still had 2 boxes of tinsel.... Just thinking about the fun (and mess) Baby Girl could have with that tinsel made me toss it real quick.....So far I haven't put up the tree, maybe today, minus tinsel.....Jim's favorite tree was our 3ft. Fiber Optic so might bring that one in today....
Jana, I can imagine Sarah's patience would be gone by now...Don't understand how Home Depot stays in the flooring business...When I was doing the dining room in the old house, it took 3 times before they brought the right carpet...They really did a good job installing it but I was months with the furniture in the living room...I'd be using that new place if I were Sarah.....
As the years have gone by, I've given most of my old ornaments away...Each year, I'll ask the kids if there's anything they want off the tree.....Now I don't need that giant tree, thank goodness....
I had an uncle who was at Pearl Harbor and I'll always remember when my Mom got the call from my Aunt that he was OK and then again when she got the call saying he was coming home.....I'll bet kids today have no idea or aren't even taught about Pearl Harbor......
Lori, my heavens, that's a lot of lasagna! You are always up to something, aren't you? If it's not quilts, it's food......I had always had a carpet cleaner which Kathy and I shared but when she moved to Reno, the cleaner went with her...Hopefully, I won't need one for quite a while, lol.....
Becca, hope your weekend was a good one....stay safe....
As I said, I just might bring in one of the trees...At least make an attempt to look "Christmassy"....I also might do more cookies...I started yesterday and need to get a bunch more made to send to Nick..I was also thinking of sending something from Hickory Farms.....
Just had a call from my cardiologist and he wants to see me tomorrow morning....Hope it doesn't snow, lol.....I still haven't gotten a shovel and a good broom, maybe next time I get out.....Maybe.....
As far as dinner, I have a zucchini so I might stuff it....
You all have a great rest of the day..........
Happy eating.........................

Just so you know, I was and am the only one who put the tinsel on our tree, one strand at a time, starting at the inside next to the trunk, and then work my way out on every branch. It had to hang straight too. I was very methodical, read, picky! LOL! I still have 18 boxes of tinsel in the Christmas boxes. Haven't seen it for sale in years.
I was even worst at buying a fresh tree - I drug everyone to several lots looking at specific types of trees, Silvertip or a white noble fir. Had to be perfect! I usually bought a tree taller than our 8 ft ceiling, because the top 8 ft were just right. Michael always felt bad to cut a tree down from the forest and finally talked me into a green artificial tree. He reasoning to get me to do the fake tree, was I could have it up longer. No fire danger.
Oh the fun memories!
Jana
Later in the day note - Sarah is picking up her floor as I type! She knew the trucking company name, called them, found out when it was to arrive at Home Depot, then called Home Depot and told them she would pick it up. Finally! She originally place the order in October!
