SUPPER CLUB - Thursday, August 27

Post by purrfect-lady » Thu Aug 27, 2020 6:40 am

Good morning,

Each morning seems a degree or two cooler. I washed sheets yesterday and we added another blanket to our bed when we remade it. And it was nice and cozy sleeping. The prognosticators tell us it's going to be a colder and wetter winter here. But it's purrfect now! Yesterday we stopped by the grocery store, UPS store to pick up our mail, and the drug store. Then I pieced backings for two quilt tops. Now I have just one more top to prep for quilting and I'll be set to finish up the last 7 quilt tops. Hope to get that backing done today and clean up my sewing room. I also baked some oatmeal craisin cookies. Today will be UGH-ly day as well - bathrooms, kitchen floor, vacuum. And I'll be washing towels and trailer sheets and putting them on the line. I had a quilt on the line yesterday when about 4pm we noticed smoke billowing from Vicki's house. We watched it for a bit as it got thicker, thinking, "Is this it? Did she finally set her house on fire?". Then we could smell the trash. She was burning it in her wood stove. Breezes were carrying the smoke and the smell our way so I ran to get my quilt off the line. It's always something.

TINA - hope your plum tree(s) 'take'! But like Jana said, they can be a real mess when they start dropping fruit. I think I'd rather have a FLOWERING Plum. How was your drive yesterday? Where did you go?

JANA - You just about have Karlie's quilt 'in the bag'! Is it going to be 12" blocks of just Minnie heads (and bows! :D ), or it it going to be one big Minnie? Or ?? I'm trying to picture it.

LORI - I hope Jack and Wrigley enjoyed their special day! Scottie got a Frosty Paw for an evening treat, plus I sang "Happy Dog Day" to him while he ate it.

CAROL - Zoom gatherings are getting to be quite the thing now. And you seem to make the most of them! Your recipe yesterday almost sounded like it came from the old Betty Crocker Dinner for Two Cookbook. Enough so that I had to go look it up! I didn't find it there, but didn't it sound like it should have been? I have a recipe for pork chops, too, that is really good - season and brown. Put sliced potatoes in a baking dish, S&P, top with the chops, and pour a mushroom sauce over all and bake, covered and then uncovered. For the sauce, I saute onions & garlic, add a bit of white wine and/or milk, dash of Dijon mustard, & mushroom soup. Stir and heat until well blended. My brother, Jim, LOVED this dish, so I made it whenever he was here for supper.

Bill invited his 2 best friends from his exercise class (now in our garage via Zoom) and their hubbies for happy hour/campfire tonite. So, since the menu we served the other night to other friends was so well received, I'll be doing that again= BBQ'd meatballs, deviled eggs, fruit kabobs, cookies. I will also put out green olives and carrot and celery sticks. Guess when campfire season is over we'll be going back to the garage for our socializing and eventually adding radiant warmers. Anyway, this will be our supper tonite. Though now I'm hungry for pork chops!

What's your plan?

Good morning!

Mary - Minnie Mouse will be on a 12 inch block. I am making this quilt using 20 blocks, a 4 x5 setting with red and silver polka dot sashing and a black border. I thought the polka dot fabric had white dots, as I ordered it online, so I will stitch it in silver. Making the best of a boo boo. It will be a original! LOL!

Not much here. Beautiful day outside, but will get quite warm. Dinner - I have some small pork ribs. I cut them into small serving sizes before I froze them. A small potato salad too.

Dishes are having a staring contest with me, maybe if I blink, they will be gone! Nope, guess I will go do them.

Hugs,
Jana

Mary - No, it wasn’t a Betty Crocker. The recipe came from a package of rice. Brown four Seasoned pork chops add 1/2 cup chopped onion cook through. Add two cups chicken broth, one cup of rice and drained eight ounce can of mandarin oranges and one teaspoon salt and pepper to taste Bake forty-five minutes until rice is done at 350*. Now I will admit I heat the chicken broth and rice to boiling and turn up heat on oven to 375*. As I said yesterday it is one of my favorite recipes.

Today I have the dreaded (by me) Visual Field Test. It is where you sit at the machine staring at the center and click the button when you see the spot that move to different places on the screen. I hate this test. It wears me out. I have a quadrant in my right eye that is blind from all the problems. I see just fine though.

Today I will sew and find some fabric for the extra class project on Saturday. I need to stop at Meat Store fore some chicken which will become Teriyaki Chicken for dinner.

Have a great day everyone! Sew!

Hi everyone!
Mary, I would've been freaking out seeing smoke like that so close! Glad it wasn't the house, well I guess I am LOL
We just drove to Anthony then to Cruces, got a chicken platter for lunch and found a shade tree and ate under it then back home. Being in the vehicle for that long wears me out and i get out every hour and walk for about 10 minutes. I want to go to the mountains, it's cooler there.
Jana, I ordered 3 things from your mill place yesterday, looking forward to getting it.
Carol, I'm gonna try your recipe, I saved it.
We have all 3 kids today and for the next 2 weeks because Adam is going hunting.
Dad is coming for supper, probably something with hamburger or chicken, I'll have to decide.
I have my carrot noses left to sew down and then decide how I'm doing the eyes.....I ordered buttons but I'm not sure if I'll like them.... maybe I'll just draw the eyes.....🤷‍♀️
