SUPPER CLUB - Monday, Aug 3rd

Post by purrfect-lady » Mon Aug 03, 2020 6:18 am

Good morning!

We are cooling down today. Yesterday was 81* and today will be 75*. After our chiropractic appts we're driving back to Mineral for Al's graveside service. For an uspecified reason this didn't happen on Saturday so it means another 150-mile trip for us and another late supper for Scottie. But I wouldn't miss it.

Yesterday I did a little "picking up" around the house, pieced two quilt backs, and Bill got my R/W/B Stars on the frame and about 1/3 quilted. I hope he has time to work on it a bit more this morning. I have Dizzy Daizy ready to go right after this one if I can keep him focused. I have 14 tops that need quilting. I will do about 2/3 of those myself - freehand meander - but some just cry for some of the pretty computerized patterns he has.

IRISH - have you never had split pea soup?? It's my favorite though I DO NOT like canned. Doesn't taste anything like the real stuff. I add diced onion, carrot, celery, and potato to mine, some bay leaves, a bit of oregano, and I also toss in about 1/2 tsp of red pepper flakes just for a bit of zip. If I want to add meat - diced ham or kielbasa or bacon. Some folks toss in a whole hambone. I think we have one of those tiny bottles of paint for touch-ups on Perry, but this problem would take a whole pint, I think! lol! Sounds like you have some busy times coming up!

JANA - you know, maybe that pulpit did have a pull-out step. I didn't see one, but then I didn't look either. Oh well. They probably could see the top of my head bobbing around like a red rubber ball! That was good enough. Sorry your grout will be taking longer than you thought. It will almost be like camping out in your own house! With no sleeping on the ground!

BECCA - I bet CA is tired, but hopefully a good tired, after the big party over the weekend. And I'm guessing the twins took it all in stride, with big eyes wondering why all those people were fussing over them! I hope the coming storm doesn't hit you too hard,

I had a big pot full of split pea soup that I made Saturday, so we invited Doyle and Susie over for impromptu soup and homemade cheesy biscuits. I used Chickie's baking powder recipe and tossed in a handful of shredded cheddar. Yum! We sat outside around the fire to eat. Good thing our friends are all campers with casual eating habits! We have just enough soup left for two more servings and since it's going to be another long day today, I think that's what we'll have tonite - soup and toast.

What's on your menu for tonite?

Mary, I love split pea soup, but hate peas. Can you please explain that to me. lol The soup has a completely different flavor.

I've been busy sewing. DH has stepped in a few nights to make dinner. Finally! He made a pot roast last night, but I ended up having Cherrios. It was too late for me to be eating beef at 6:30. I would not have slept well. Plus, roast isn't one of my favorites.

Don't know what's on the menu for tonight. I need to get groceries today, so I'm sure there will be lots of choices to chose from.

Have a lovely day.

Good late morning from a sunny, not as warm but perfect, SW. Pa....This is going to be a good day to do "something", even if it's wrong....

Mary, will be thinking of you today...Going to be a long day but a good day to think of all those good memories and do away with the bad ones....Nope, never had Split Pea Soup but I'm ready, for home made.....Just maybe I'll get that little bottle of paint out and take care of Ruby, 1 thing off my list....I'm hoping the girls will go through these books and take a bunch or I'm going to have to get another bookcase...I have a feeling, Kathy will be happy to spend my money but she does have good ideas, most of the time....

Gonna scoot and get to my list before I change my mind and pick up a book.....Did get the swap blocks finished and also finished the pillow for the neighbor...Need to get outside and tackle some of the weeds and also do some weed whacking...When Andy mows, he's afraid to get too close to my plants which is OK, I can handle it....

For my dinner, that's really up in the air...Still have fresh corn, so for sure, will have an ear..Other than that, no idea.....

You all have a good rest of the day....

Happy eating.................

Tonight’s dinner was Teriyaki Chicken and rice. DH said it was a “super super”. Can’t get better than those reviews!

I did finish the Christmas stockings. I think I should sew a row of stitching along the top. I wanted to finish the final border of quilting, however I am having difficulty with skipped stitches. I have changed tension, needle (several times) and checked threading on Sweet 16. No luck. I think I will start a different quilt and see if it is the thread. Any other ideas?

Hi everyone! I'm so late again! I stopped by a couple of times but they were just quick read and get busy again.
Mary, thought of you all day, I hope all went ok. I've never had split pea soup, I'll need to go read a recipe. Frankie says he's never had it either and funny guy that he is says he likes his peas whole 😂🤣 he's a comedian.
Lori, roast is one of my favorites but I love cheerios too.... they make me think of my mom every time I eat them ❤
Irish, I seriously need to get my weed eater out but I just haven't had a second plus I just can't in this heat, ugh it's bad. Glad you finished your blocks! Woohoo!
Jana, sorry your internet was down but happy your grout is finished! Happy dance!
Becca, you're weed eating too! You all are leaving me in the dust! I need rain.
Carol, I had skipped stitches about a month ago and couldn't find anything wrong. I finally rethreaded the machine and it fixed it. To my eye it looked fine but the machine was not happy for some reason.
Well all 3 closets got cleaned out. I am an admin on a Pay It Forward page on Facebook so I posted all the baby things, vacuum, tv and such and just gave them to those in need. We took all the clothes to our locality owned Helping Hands, like Goodwill but locally owned and they do lots for our community. So everything is gone. I need to vacuum again and mopped tomorrow. I'm washing fabrics and getting them folded and sorted. I made 11 half pint jars and 1 pint jar of peach jam today so all of our peaches are gone.
Frankie is building me 2 shelves in our downstairs bedroom closet so I can store my quick cooker, air fryer e.t.c the big things that I use here and there but they take up so much room. It'll be nice to have them in one place now.
I made green Chile enchiladas for supper.
Tina
