SUPPER CLUB - Thursday, July 30th

Post by purrfect-lady » Thu Jul 30, 2020 5:19 am

Good morning!

It's a beautiful, mild morning here - deck time! Still pitch dark out, but I love watching dawn happen and hearing the birds wake up.

Yesterday we got our house back together. In the process, I decided to add another set of shelving and rearrange how I store fabric in the sewing room and finished quilts in the quilt room. I unloaded the shelving units I had, was going to swap them between the rooms and Bill was going to go to Costco to buy a new unit. But first I asked him to swap out the shelves I already had between the two rooms, which he sweetly did - but they wouldn't fit! So he had to drag them back and I had to reload them. Arghhh!! That was about 4 hours of my life - not wasted, but not used too wisely either! But I did discover a total of about 9 yards of pale green dress fabric - crepe, lace fabric, matching lining - that I KNOW I'll never use and I want to give away. If any of you can use it, or know of someone who can, let me know. Also, I have about 1-2/3 yd of 35" wide fake white fur I would like to share with some crafty person.

Today, I want to finish going through a few more things. I have quite a donation pile going - mostly misc household stuff - and it's going to get a little bit bigger today. Also, I need to make a few masks, and I'd like to get either my Dizzy Daizy or my newest R/W/B top loaded on the quilt frame. Tina posted a photo of my R/W/B top for me since my phone wasn't letting me on QIAD yesterday. Thank you, TINA!

TINA - I can smell that peach pie from here! I have two - peaches, not pies. We've been buying them at Costco and they have been so good! You are out of babysitting form! Even in our 40's, it exhausted us babysitting Drew and Alec!

BECCA - looks like Beth's Bakery has really taken off! Congratulations to her! I knew I'd heard the word "profiteroles" on Great British Baking Show, but I had to look it up to remind myself - Cream Puffs? Yum!

CAROL - if you didn't see my post yesterday, I have a lot of fake white fur you can have if you'd like it to trim those Christmas stockings . . .

CHICKIE - I love our little Covid! And haha! You got me! You were talking about your sister's Hashimoto's and said she'd had a lot of Lladro's pieces and some are quite large. I thought - Oh dear! I've never heard of that! I was picturing bits of something in her thyroid and figured I'd missed that paragraph in my nursing textbooks. So I looked it up - FIGURINES!! Did I ever feel silly!

JANA - how is the tile project going? Hope you figured out your secret hiding place so the burglars don't find your outlet covers! I'd forgotten about Sarah's Graves complicating things.

IRiSH - And I had to look up Fenton cats, too! Y'all have had me doing my research this morning! I better check some of my cats! A few of the pictures looked familiar to me. (I have about 120 cats in this house from 1" to bigger than lifesize).

Our chicken parm was just as good last night as it was the night before. I think the secret is to warm it in the oven rather than the microwave. Anyhow, I have a little sauce left and plan to make a pepperoni pizza on the grill for tonight. Supposed to be 87~ish degrees today so I don't want to heat up the kitchen.

What's going on your plate tonite? It's too hot to cook, right?

Good morning!

Mary - when I get , as Michael likes to call them, hair brained ideas, he always comes and measures everything before telling me it won't work. He doesn't like moving things twice. Everything is drawn here, the house, the rooms, the furniture, everything, on the computer. He moves it there first, then if it works, the real things. Laziness is the mother of invention! LOL!

The tile is about 2/3s finished. The tedious part, cutting around and fitting the electrical outlets is done. The last 6 inches to the bottom of the upper cabinets will be done today. It will go much faster. Then tomorrow the grouting. We will need a run to Lowes or Home Depot for tile and grout sealer. A must to keep the grease stains out of them. The kitchen looks so different! But I love it!

Dinner - another microwave feast - will see what will come forth!

Ethan is quilting his quilt. He will be a great stipler! He is a bit intimated by the big LA. Heck, so am I! He stays small in his meander, paths and loops, as he named them. So far, he has about a third of the quilt done.

I love collecting "stuff"! I love Lenox, Lladro, Fenton, bone China, and hand blown glass. I have many pieces of all of those. Quite a few cats and fancy, never to be used, teacups and saucers. My aunt started me when I was a teenager collecting China. Oh, I have several hand made porcelain dolls. One even that I made, just need to finish that one with it's clothes. It is a small baby doll, to be dressed in a long white christening gown.

Not much else going on here. Uglies, tile and maybe some sewing. That is, after I dig my way in to my sewing area - Sarah was here sewing yesterday!

Stay Safe,
Hugs,
Jana

Good morning all. Been busy canning here. Today will be snapping beans and prepping the 5 gal bucket of tomatoes.

I’ve got the tshirt quilt all hand quilted one side of binding hand sewn and plan to finish rest of binding today so can deliver this weekend.

I will then focus on LA quilting the grad tshirt quilt. Have to have it ready for party on 8th.

Lil man keeps me in the pool. He loves the water. Dd loves it too. She has had issues with falls took her to dr he ran bunch labs and of course all perfect lol. Healthiest kid alive. So guess she is just clumsy 🤣

Well I got 15 new 🐣🐣🐣 and I put 20 more eggs in incubator. We are working on stocking freezer. I trust my farm raised meat over these Covid ridden plants.

I have been watching several of our local quilt shops on FB live sales. Sew much fun. I’m still not going out into stores everything gets shipped here to farm. DH picks up essential like milk chips. Rest I make on farm.

I decided this year everyone is getting quilt for Christmas. I’m pulling out all my past swap blocks and designing them now. OMG 😱 I forgot how many swaps I’ve done lol. Drawer was stuffed. I got me the timber Knomes. Have you seen that line of fabric and panel. I want to add my knomes from fat cat patterns to make it bigger.

Mary shot you pm.

Well nothing else new here. Been nice calm and quiet.

Hugs 🤗 prayers🙏 Happy stitching 🧵

Good morning!
Mary, I am out of babysitting form LOL I feel asleep yesterday for 15 minutes to be woke up by Preston jumping on my legs, about gave me a heart attack! I shook for a good 5 minutes. It was important at least, he needed help in the bathroom but didn't want to ask Papa.
My pie turned out sooooo yummy! We'll be sharing with Dad tonight!
Jana, I have tile on my kitchen walls, I love it! I wish I could stipple small, mine are too big.
The kids will be here any minute so I'll be fixing breakfast for them.
I have to figure a way to get through to Jazmyne that she's not the boss of the boys, that drives me crazy! She turned 13 on the 28th and I'm pretty sure she thinks she's 30!
I have to go searching the freezer to see what supper will be but I know peach pie is for afters LOL

Good afternoon! Here I am sliding into the table again, late as usual. I started here earlier and got interrupted, so hours later…

We had about an inch of rain yesterday afternoon. When I walked out to find Covid last evening, I found only one place that had some mud, so everything soaked in. We can still use some more, but we are thankful for what we have.

I got nothing accomplished yesterday. DH came in when it started raining hard, put on a movie and sucked me into watching it. When it was over, I was so comfortable that I started reading until time to fix dinner, clean it up, and go find Covid. DGS and DGDIL dropped in with Ava. They are getting ready to get their corner of the farm and start building a house. She is one week from her due date and looks awesome! I’m so excited!!! That will be one spoiled baby if I can have anything to do with it! Of course, I will have to stand in line, I’m sure. I do have an advantage being half a mile away, but one grandma is only another mile on the other side. It will be FUN!’’

Mary—too funny about getting Lladro pieces confused with a medical condition!!! I haven’t made cream puffs in ages. Now I’m wanting some! I also want to make popovers one of these days. I had a pan I used for them, but have it no more. It got turned into a molten puddle with everything else. I can use a big muffin pan. If I get excited about using the oven when it gets cooler, I might make some. I have two peaches too. LOL! Not quite enough for a pie, but they could make a tart… again the oven. We will nosh them down unadulterated by sugar and crust.

Tina—I haven’t babysat toddlers or pre-schoolers in ages! Not sure if I’m up to long hours of it, but if they like to listen to me read… I can go all day! Except there would be naps!!! Required naps!!! Grandma used to make us all lie down and be quiet for at least 30 minutes; now I know WHY! Your pie sounds mouth watering! Happy late birthday to Jazmyne!

Irish—I used to have several Fenton pieces. I had a turquoise colored hen on a nest that I loved. I’ve always seemed to collect chickens. I had several other hens on nests that were other glass maker pieces.

Jana—so cool that Ethan is quilting his quilt!!! One of my bosses gave me a Lennox Santa each year for awhile. I think I have six of them. I used to have a collection of toothpick holders. They were in my price range when I was using my babysitting money as a teen. I also have a lot of paperweights. Mom collected teacups and saucers when she couldn’t afford anything else. She had some beautiful ones!

Izzy—a pool would be a lovely place to spend the summer! Glad your DD is doing well and loves the water! The gnome fabrics are darling! Tomatoes aren’t doing well here. I keep hoping DS will have an abundance, but I’m not sure he has had any yet.

I have some more refrigerated pickled peppers soaking in the salt. I’m experimenting by adding a bunch of shredded cabbage to it and think it will me some yummy slaw.

Dinner tonight will be some leftover clean up with the addition of corn on the cob. DGDIL brought us 2 big ears last evening. I have a couple slices of my giant tomato left, too.

Off to sewing room until time to finish my pickled pepper slaw.

Bon appétit!

Good late afternoon from warm, sunny, Sw. Pa. but rain is promised, again, lol.....

Been extra busy so far today so now it's time for a little break....
Mary, Don't you feel so good when you get a big job, as the rug cleaning, out of the way....And then to actually get rid of stuff, you go Girl! I thought I had a bad time when I was trying to decide what to keep for the new house but when I see all the stuff my friend has and she's moving into a 2 bedroom home, Yikes....Plus, 1 of her bedrooms, she'd like to set up to do hair so not quite sure where she's going to put everything...But, she does have a lot of help when sorting, thank goodness...Along with the huge tote of books, I came home with a box of her Tee shirts to be made into a quilt...In her younger "life" she had a Harley and of course had all the gear and shirts..Now she'll just have a quilt....My sister has been teasing her about meeting my Kevin being he's a Harley guy....Right now, Kevin has eyes for just 1 female and that's Emma....
I have never made chicken parm but that recipe does look good, might have to give it a try...And, about the only thing different in the apple tart and my braid is I use Puff Pastry....Just think how good peach would be.......And now that you've mentioned cream puffs, I might have to make them for one of our card game desserts.....My sister's birthday is on Sat. so we'll have cake and ice cream tomorrow night, might even dig out my candles.....

Tina, I was hoping to get my blocks finished so I could deliver them in person and maybe have a piece of pie but didn't make it...But, now that you have us all talking about peaches, I'm going to have to get some, the next time I'm out...That and corn, not supposed to eat it but I'll suffer, I need just a little...
I really haven't watched little ones in quite a long time..The closest I've gotten was when Cari and Lena were here in Feb. and Kathy and I watched the little one...There is no way I could ever keep up with a toddler but like Chickie and Becca, could read to them forever.....

Jana, I used to love collecting "stuff" but when I started to pack up everything, wondered why??? I have Clothtique Irish Gentlemen, lots of Irish stuff that we've gotten in Ireland, Leprechauns from every where we've traveled plus other stuff that I don't need....And I know, most of the kids aren't going to want this stuff when I'm gone, lol...But, I did tell them, after I'm gone and they have a funeral get together, everyone has to take home a Leprechaun.....Just heard the Lenox factory near here is closing and having a huge sale...Well, I'm going to be strong and not allow my sister to twist my arm and "I'm not going"!.....

Izzy, so glad to see you at the table....Sure have been thinking of you and hoping everything was OK...Sounds like your pool is really getting a workout which is great...Better than sitting there not being used...Often think of when we had our's, best investment we had ever made...It was when the kids were starting in the teens and it kept them home, along with all their friends...I have 30 years of good memories with that pool.....

Oh Chickie, a new baby to spoil, what fun. Let the "grandma competition" begin.....Our baby is almost a year old already, which is hard to believe...I really like your "yesterday" schedule...Nothing wrong with watching a movie and reading....I think with all you do, you deserve to take a day off when ever you feel like it....Me, I feel like it most days, lol......

Becca, busy, busy as ever....And making a pizza for dinner, good for you....I haven't made pizza in forever...Usually our Friday night card playing dinner is pizza and a salad ordered from one of our favorites...My sister has them on speed dial....

Here it is almost dinner time and I haven't a clue what I might put on the table...In fact, forgot to eat lunch so had yogurt which will hold me over until tonight....So, maybe a bowl of cereal....
I was playing in the dirt and planted half of the plants that jumped in the cart the other day...And then I was working on my neighbor's pillow that is stuffed with feathers but needs more stuffing...Well, worked on it on the deck and it now looks like I plucked a chicken...But, I think I got it fixed and hopefully will get it sewed back together and back to her house.....
Guess I need to drag out the hose, those in the know, have miss lead us again, lol....

You all have a great rest of the day....

Happy eating...............

There is nothing new for me to report so I think I will heat up the last serving of chili for supper, then read for a bit before bedtime.

Maryz - No thanks on the fake white fur. These stockings are for community service to fill with toiletries to give away. No need to be too fancy.

Dinner is still up in the air. There is lots in the freezer and something will fall out. Just not sure what yet, after all it is only four in the afternoon!! lol
