SUPPER CLUB - Tuesday, July 28
Good morning!
Going to be a nice day today - Maybe 79*. Better than the 90* we had yesterday. Though we sat out in the shady side yard all afternoon with the kids and it wasn't too bad. And turns out when they said they were bringing 'food', they meant muffins, not pizza. And they left at 4pm because they had other dinner plans. So, after an afternoon of muffins and apple tart, I pulled frozen pasties out of the freezer for our supper.
Today we are having the upstairs carpets cleaned so as soon as I finish this post, I'll start "unloading" the rooms of small stuff - filling the bathroom, kitchen, and the deck. We can easily carry everything out but the dining room table, which can be moved back and forth. We have two loveseats, but they are getting cleaned, too, so they will stay put and be shuttled around the room. But first I hope to finish my R/W/B quilt top. I'm so close!
LORI - poor Wrigley! I bet he felt bad about tripping Grandpa. And glad Grandpa is OK!
ROSEBUD - So what did you finally end up making with your burger last night?
BECCA - can't believe the twins are already a year old! Happy Birthday to them on Saturday! Will you be going to the party or attending 'virtually'? So nice this pandemic wasn't around when they were born!
IRISH - happy 70'th anniversary of your broken femur. Bet you never thought it would change your life! That rustic caramel apple tart turned out purrfectly! It only took 1-1/2 apples and was 4 generous servings. Now I want to try other fruits like peaches, raspberries, etc.
JANA - And the Legend of Aaron continues! I remember a similar story on Live PD - a donkey on the freeway! It had fallen out of a trailer.
CAROL - did you get your Christmas stockings finished?
Not sure about supper yet with the carpet guy here. He's not even coming until about 3:00 pm. But I might put some chicken in the crockpot.
happy Supper!

Good morning!
Mary - the tales never cease! There was no trailer or anything like that on the freeway. Our guess is the guy just used the freeway as a short cut. I always thought people were normal, like me. Yes, I know normal is a relative term. But until Aaron started patrolling the freeways, I never realized there were so many crazies! Good to have a visit and even a hug! Hopefully they will be back several more times during their visit.
Tile guy starts tomorrow and Sarah and I will do a bit of cleaning today on the cabinets in my kitchen.
Ethan learned a big lesson yesterday about rules. Remember the rule, no running in the house? Ethan learned the hard way about that yesterday. He was running full speed and missed a turn next to the sofa and pow, his big toe hit the wooden foot on the bottom of the sofa and he broke the toe. So after a visit to the doctor and x-rays, Ethan is wearing a boot for three weeks. He is already complaining about not being able to jump on the trampoline, riding his bike, or even walking. It will be a long three weeks! Sarah had planned a couple of hiking trips on the next couple of weekends, those are now out.
Dinner - I want spicy! So, it will be Hatch Chile enchiladas made with chicken. Maybe even a Mexican rice as well.
I can sew a few more Christmas gifts this morning. And put the Batt Cave in order - again! I am also sewing up a couple of seams on some suit pants for a friend. The Lemonade Skinnie is almost ready to quilt. Just need to blanket stitch two flowers, add a couple of buttons, the layer and quilt.
Stay Safe!
Hugs,
Jana

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Monday, July 28
Good Tuesday afternoon! Today my baby is 53! It’s shocking to me, too!!! Boomer, Odie and I just returned from walking Choc. It’s “only” 80 out there, but the humidity is almost 80. It feels like walking through soup, and it splashed all over me. My “glow” is pretty liquid’! We had an inch of welcome rain last evening, and I got soaked as I was out hunting for Covid.
Yesterday I was packing pickles and pickled peppers like Peter Piper. Not sure how many pecks I packed, but I have 13 jars of dill pickle (spears and slices}, 7 jars of zucchini bread and butter pickles, and 3 jars of pickled bread and butter peppers. I was one pooped pickle and pepper packer last evening! Our DDIL brought a bunch of zucchini, yellow squash, cucumbers, banana peppers, and a sack of small onions as well as some tomatoes, radishes and plums on Sunday afternoon. One of her friends had been to the Amish produce auction and was sharing her extra produce all over the neighborhood. I was happy to become a beneficiary!
The wedding Saturday evening was beautiful! Very simple and low key with everyone social distancing. I couldn’t miss it! DD’s best friend from grade school. They could be found at one house or the other; we lived a block from her family, and they walked home from school together. As a single parent, we didn’t have funds for vacation trips, but her family was so generous to take my DD along to keep their DD company instead of tagging along behind her 3 older brothers. They had great times! I used to make them matching outfits, and the girls always were sisters. Oh, I managed to stay upright in my heeled sandals! And, another reason not to miss this special occasion—first marriage for both she and her spouse!!! Good things come to those who wait, and I wanted to be there to wish her all the happiness in the world. She was one of DD’s bridesmaids 27 years ago.
Sunday was my sister’s birthday, and I went in town to have cake with her and my other sister. It was a “welcome to the 70s” for the youngest sister.
Mary—What a job moving all the furniture and getting ready to move all the furniture! It’s pretty much like getting ready to put in new flooring! I love your RWB quilt!!!
Becca—Happy birthday to the twins! My DD sent me a text of her hospital baby picture today. She was in her isolette wearing nothing but a tiny diaper. She had no tubes, wires or monitors, but she was TINY! She was 3-14 and pretty long for her size.
Jana—something crazy is always happening around here. Crazy is the normal. You are abnormal. Driving the speed limit or a couple miles over is abnormal. I’m passed like I’m sitting still. I want spicy tonight, too… That was a powerful lesson, and one Ethan probably won’t forget any time soon!
I think I have sufficiently cooled down from our hike in the oppressive air. I’m going to find my sewing room and change the needle on my machine from HD to normal. I had to shorten a pair of pants for DSIL to wear to the wedding as they waited. Of course they were running late, and I had 20 minutes to “git ‘er done!”
Dinner tonight will be squash casserole (I’ll add jalapeños for some heat), something with ground beef (DH requested with pasta), sliced tomatoes, and whatever else lands on the table.
Bon appétit!

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Tuesday, July 28
Good later afternoon from warm, sunny SW. Pa....We did have a very welcome rain last night and then during the night but today back to brilliant sunshine.....
It's been a busy day so far...I needed to run to JoAnn's to get more Christmas fabric, only needed about 1/4 yard to finish my blocks but they also had elastic, woohoo.....Then picked up a few cleaning supplies and then on the way home, stopped at my friend's new home...There were 3 vans and a truck unloading and getting her moved in....Stayed until everything was unloaded and then came home and collapsed....But, now, I'm going to get back to my sewing and get them finished....But, in all the unloading, she did have a huge tote full of hard back books for me to bring home, which are still in the car..I'll be taking them out, book by book or have Kevin carry them in the house....
Mary, For sure I'm going to have to give that apple tart a try and I agree, other fruit would also be super good....By now, your carpets are probably all nice and clean...My sister told me, she just bought a new scrubber and could use it any time....Heck, that sounds like too much work and that word scares me....
I often think, who would have thought, finding your future husband in a hospital room next door and especially when you're only 13????
Did have a text from Cari along with a picture of a brown puppy with long legs and big ears...Her name is Winnie and she was rescued from a very high kill shelter down south and Matt and Cari just fell in love with her on sight...Don't have the "specs" other than she's female and very gentle...
And, Kathy just texted me, telling me, Jackie and her DH will be coming for a visit when Kathy gets here in 2 weeks...My house might not be big enough...We already told Tim, if he came on this trip he had to stay at my sister's......
Chickie, this is a good birthday but I have you beat...My baby, Terry is 55 today...He's the only 1 of the kids who is still younger than me but slowly catching up.....My heavens, you've been doing a lot of canning...I commend anyone who still cans, I think it's great...I have a feeling my canning days are long gone. But, now I have Kathy taking over so it's OK...About the only thing I still made was relish and she uses the same recipe so I'm happy..My sister used to guard the jars of relish I'd give her, wouldn't let anyone use them so now, Kathy will wrap up some for her birthday or Christmas gifts...I'm not sure I've ever had zucchini bread and butter pickles, would be interested in your recipe, if you'd like to share.....I'm sure Kathy would be interested.....
Jana, Oh poor Ethan, really a hard lesson to learn....Tomorrow's the big day for your tile...Patience does pay off, right?
I need to get to the sewing machine before I really run out of steam....Have another full day tomorrow so really want to get them finished or near finished today......
For dinner, there again, nothing is coming to mind so will see what drops out of the fridge.....
You all have a good rest of the day...
Happy eating....................

Mary Z, I ended up making chili and heating up some tortillas. Tonight will be a repeat. Did you find out what is keeping Chriss from joining us? I hope she is okay.

Mary - No, the Christmas stockings are not quite finished, but I am more than halfway. I have been working on them. It is monotonous sewing, like making masks. I guess I get bored easily these days. lol
I have a Zoom meeting tonight. It isn't until 7:00 PM.
I made Turkey-Spinach Lasagna Roll-ups for dinner tonight. The recipe makes 16 roll-ups so that will make 8 meals for us. I figure it was a good investment in time.
