SUPPER CLUB - Saturday, July 25th

Post by purrfect-lady » Sat Jul 25, 2020 6:05 am

Good morning,

Going to be a purrfect day here - going to about 75*. The cleaning binge continues here. Today we plan to back the truck and tractor out of the shop and get busy! It's not that it's all so dirty, but dust and clutter do accumulate. Plus, I have a hubby who is terrible about putting his toys away, so that's the big thing we'll be dealing with. Yesterday he finished the garage while I cleaned and rearranged the family room. We still have one monumental project - our storage closet under the stairs. Think Fibber McGee. I had it all organized, but then Bill shoved a bunch of stuff from his shop in there that he suddenly decided he wanted to store in the house. Now it's become a jumbled mess. Arghh.... But that will be saved for another day that isn't today. I'm still managing to get in an hour or so of sewing time every morning.

CAROL - good call on banishing the plan for banned food and going with pizza! No anchovies, right?!

CHICKIE - being a calf mom is dangerous to your knees! Hope you're feeling better today.

BECCA - I always use company as a good reason to get in the mood to clean. And since my DBIL's garages are so clean and he's coming to visit in late Sept, even Bill is getting involved in the cleaning thing! :D

JANA - your pot holders are going to be so cute! I need to make me some, too. Last year I made a dozen pairs for gifts but none for myself and I'm still using ones that Tina gave me years ago - torn and stained now. lol!

LORI - at our house, you are so right - always something that needs cleaning! We are having a company come in to clean our carpets on Tuesday. And I hope that's the last of the big projects for a while.

TINA - Bill has his shop to be all his - until I can't walk through it anymore and then I start "encouraging" him to do something about it and offer my help - which he really doesn't seem to mind. The garage is different - it's attached to the house, and our company often walks through it to come inside through the family room so I like it to be somewhat presentable. Also, if he doesn't keep it swept, all the dirt, maple helicopters, fir buds, cedar sheddings, etc., get tracked into the house. Hope your shoulder is better today. And glad you got the rattlesnake motel moved!!

Yesterday I made red beans and rice using dry beans. I always forget how they cook up! I have LOTS!! so we'll be having that again tonite and then maybe I'll freeze the rest of the beans and use them to make chili some cooler day.

How's the menu planning coming along in your kitchen?

Mary, the cleaning needs never end. I used to have someone come in to clean the carpets, but they did such a bad job I started doing it myself. I may eventually go to hard flooring throughout, and get large area rugs for the bedrooms and front room.

Jana, happy pioneer day. I'm sure you'll have firework galore again tonight. Did you see the show at Thanksgiving point is still on. I will definitely be attending. I didn't sign up for classes though.

Yesterday was cleaning day, house and car. I'm driving part 2 of the quilt run today, so I needed to get the dog hair out of the car. Wrigley's hair goes everywhere. The life of having a golden. He's worth it.

I need to get ready for the day. I have my directions downloaded and list made. We are headed to QIAD for the 1st stop of the day. It's about 90 miles south.

For dinner I will throw some chicken on the grill w/potatoes and onions. Then add a spinach salad.

Have a lovely day.

Good morning!

Mary - I saw a meme on Pinterest the other day, it said, you won't be remembered for how clean your house was, but by the love you put in your quilts. I need to remember that. Many are going to remember you for all the quilts you do!

Lori - oh the fun road trip! They canceled our shop hop here this year. The show at Thanksgiving Point is right in the middle of Sarah's dental surgeries, so we won't be going this year. But next year, yes!

Becca - people are showing respect for our law enforcement here too. We have a few who cause problems, but more are stopping to say thank you to the troopers and officers.

Dinner - I bought a couple years of fresh corn, so will add that to the fried zucchini from last night. A veggie dinner. I am getting better at the cucumber sauce, finally got it to where we remember the right flavors.

Heading to the Batt Cave to sew a revamped pattern for the pot holders. Tried to put a binding around the edge, didn't work, ripped it off and finally just sewed right sides together and closed the last edge by hand. With adding the insulbrite and batting, I found I needed to make the back and fronts separate, then join them . Finally it worked. But, the original size didn't include seam allowance, so I will remake that and sew some more this morning.

Stay Safe!
Hugs,
Jana

Good afternoon from sunny, warm, SW. Pa....

Mary, your weather does sound purrfect....And all your "uglies" sound tiring....But, what a great feeling when it's all done, lots of satisfaction....I was trying to think what I needed to get done before Kathy, Cari and Lena come next month and all I've come up with is getting room darkening drapes for my sewing room, which will be Lena's bedroom...Right now, it's the brightest room in the house and no way would you get any sleep in there...Did talk to Kathy yesterday and they were headed for Lake Tahoe, using their timeshare for the weekend...She said, her job gets more and more fun...Had a couple come in, he was born in 1938, she in 1958...After she married them, she asked how they got together and after his wife died a few years ago, he had health problems and this was his nurse...Kathy said, it was quite evident, they really cared for each other...And of course being in Reno, she has seen and has had some "sights" but she takes it all in stride....

Lori, what a fun day you have planned or should we say, couple of days....I envy those of you that have friends that are quilters....I wouldn't worry about the dog hair, tell everyone to wear light colored clothes and they'll never notice....Can't wait to hear about your venture.....Enjoy every minute....

Becca, Looks like you had a full day in before lunch...What a great idea, Back the Blue Day! We need more of those kind of days...Our guys in blue really don't get the credit they so deserve...When I hear and think of what my grandson, Andy, goes through, for sure they don't get the credit...Pray for them every day.....I've probably seen or heard, but what are Cowboy beans?

Jana, hope your day is special and you'll be enjoying Pioneer day...Also hope the fireworks are spectacular and also safe...You really do have an interesting family, love to read your posts....Your dinner sounds so good, fresh corn and zucchini, don't get much better.....

Tina, I must have missed it but what did you do to your shoulder, other than probably working too hard? And, I'm afraid, if I saw a rattlesnake, I'd be the one that was moving....I've been following a fellow who takes care of deer and their little ones and a rattlesnake had gotten in their shed and had bitten a few of the deer and there was no way of saving them....Nasty, nasty critters......

Chickie, my heavens, your babies do play rough, don't they? Hope your knee is feeling better...You had mentioned wedding cookies the other day and I think I was caught off guard or I might have told the aunt, I'd make cut out sugar cookies (shamrocks, lol) and Kevin's favorite, ginger snaps...Still might make a few to add to my boxes....Never have too many cookies.....

As many other days, today is really a lazy day....The gals were here for cards last night and didn't leave until after 1:00...You know, when 4 women get together, gab, eat pizza, gab, play cards, eat snacks, gab, play more cards and then have dessert, the time flies by.....My friend has her closing and gets her keys on Thursday so we'll really be celebrating next week.....
Thanks goodness I have no uglies to do today....They decided to come here because of my AC, so I threw an apple braid in the oven, pushed the vacuum around, set out the snacks and we were good to go.....I just might have to spend time in the sewing room.....And for my dinner, I'll have left over pizza, without anchovies (ugh).........

You all have a great rest of the day.....

Happy eating.........

Good afternoon! We are hot with some clouds but only 5% chance of rain for the next hour or so. I’m headed for my sewing room for a bit—trying to not break a sweat so after I hem a pair of pants for DSIL, I’ll do a quick change and off we go to a wedding. I will definitely be wearing a mask. I normally wouldn’t attend, but this is one I do not want to miss!

Carol-Q7—I’m sure there are loads of Zoom meetings going on. I thought it would be a coincidence if you were in that guild. I’m trying some sample blocks. When I drew it off, I used a 5” grid and thought I would try a sample with some miscellaneous charm squares. I’m going to make a mini quilt for my sewing room wall. I do want to do a larger quilt with a layer cake. I love the idea of being able to see closer with the Zoom camera. I’ve been to workshops where it was difficult to see.

Tomorrow I’ll be canning something. DDIL came over with a bunch of onions, banana peppers, zucchini and cucumbers from a friend who went to the Amish auction. You HAVE to buy in huge quantities and share. I’m happy to be a recipient of the bounty! I also received some huge slicing tomatoes, but I’ll be eating them! I had one sliced with salt and pepper for lunch. Sigh, heaven!!! There will be BLTs in the near future!..

Mary—I think my knee is better. I’ll let you know after I wear heeled sandals to the wedding without breaking a leg. I like beans in salad, too.

Lori—Sounds like you are on the road having fun! Be safe!!! My truck is full of dog hair. It’s a given that I will arrive covered in dog fur.

Becca—your cowboy beans sound yummy. I must put them on my make list! The satisfaction never lasts until the floor gets dry. Usually it’s a two legged beast that messes it up.

Jana—that meme is my attitude! Make quilts with love. Don’t waste time on floor polishing. I love fried zucchini! I’ll probably make some with my bounty! I also like them with stewed tomatoes and onions. DH does not, so I get them all to myself. Those circle bindings are the pits! I’ll keep your idea of the two separate sections in mind. I hate when they shift. Thank you for your “research”!!!

Irish—what fun for Kathy to be loving her job and meeting interesting people! I’m sure some are more “interesting” than others! My favorite color to wear is locker-room gray. It blends with both the black and white dog hairs. Never, never too many cookies!!! Your get together with the gals sounds like a blast!!! And, you have a big celebration next week—what a housewarming that will be!

The troops should be arriving before too long for me to work on the pants. Nothing like pressure to get something done 2when you have to drive 50 miles and arrive on time!

Dinner for me will be after the wedding. DH is on his own with sandwiches. He was going to go to the wedding, but wasn’t looking forward to it. He doesn’t like dressing up, and I’m not sure about overalls for the church wedding. So, DGD is going as my plus one.

Bon appétit!

Hi everyone! Sorry I'm running so late.
Mary, oooooooooooh I didn't realize people entered your house through your garage.
Irish, I don't know what I did to me shoulder. You'd think as bad as it's hurting that I'd know what I did. I don't like rattlesnakes either.... well i don't like any snakes!
Frankie has almost all the wainscoting on, only maybe a foot wide piece left. Boy is our bedroom getting a deep cleaning! I need to get a new quilt made for the Fall!
We had green Chile bacon cheeseburgers cooked on the grill tonight.
Sorry so short. I'm gonna get ready for bed. Night.
Tina
