SUPPER CLUB - Monday July 20

Post by purrfect-lady » Mon Jul 20, 2020 7:10 am

Good morning!

It's a pretty 'deck' morning today - coffee, fountain, fur kids, and thou(s). And this morning, birthday presents. I got Bill a pair of 8# weights, about 10 hardback suspense novels from the Goodwill to keep him occupied when down in Texas this winter, a heavy duty staple gun, and fabric case I made a few months ago for his set of tools that all go on one handle - kind of like screwdrivers. He seemed happy with everything - especially with the case I made! Tonite we're going to friends (Doyle & Susie) for pizza and apple pudding cake.

Thank you all for your sweet and comforting thoughts about Albert. I will always miss him - still can't believe he is gone - but life is life. And he had a really rough few years, especially the last two months. I'm happy he's finally free.

CAROL - you made me smile - you had a Zoom meeting on how to run a Zoom meeting. I'm sure there's more to it than that but it seemed ironic to me. :D

BECCA - I forgot zinnias! Mom grew those, too. So colorful! You would love the Pike Place Market in Seattle - One you get by those folks that toss the fish, it's almost like walking through a tunnel of the most beautiful, brilliant flowers you've ever seen. The vendors make up wonderful, very generous, bouquets, for $10. And the bouquets last about 2 full weeks.

JANA - Oh, I love glads, too! I think my bulbs are too old - no flowers this year. But they are so pretty. Those cookies sound like a recipe I have for "butterscotchies". They have oatmeal in them. ACtually, mine are more like oatmeal cookies than C.C. But almost all cookies are good! (except ginger, but don't tell Becca I said that. )

IRISH - I remember when you lost your Albert - your sis's hubby, right? Was a rough year for your family. I didn't know he was also an Albert. I hope Carrie finds just the right dog for their family. Sorry that one didn't work out, but Lena is too precious to risk.

IZZY - glad you had a quiet weekend. Have you gone into the egg business? Do you have any goats left?

TINA - you had a nice day with Kevin and fam!

LORI - thank you. Hope your day goes well - doing any shop hopping?

Thank you again to all of you for your loving condolences. They mean so much to me and to my brother's family.

Tonite we'll be feasting on pizza at our friends. I'm going to make an apple pudding cake to take along. It's a new recipe I found in the current Taste of Home magazine. Bill thought it sounded tasty. It's cooked in the crockpot so I hope it turns out OK. I may make a second dessert "just in case".

How's things going in your kitchen?

Mary - Glad I made you smile. Happy Birthday to Bill. Yes, there is more to running a meeting for a 100 or more people especially for women whose average age is sixty or more. We are all learning how to use it. We have learned not to do it alone so we have several co-hosts.

Dinner tonight will be a chicken teriyaki dish. I am not sure which recipe I will use.

Good afternoon from a sunny, warm, SW. Pa....Just came in from watering (again) and yep, it's warm out there......

Mary, it's sounds like Bill is having a pretty good birthday with lots of presents....Please give him a birthday hug from me...AND, your dessert sounds extra good and I would love to have the recipe...Not sure if this is a good thing or not but our weekly card playing gals kind of expects a dessert....Yes, my BIL was also an Albert with a big shoulder to use when I needed one...Funny story about he and my sister..When they were 1st married, they were both very thin, in fact, he could stand behind a tree and not be seen...Well, when he passed, he was over 200 lbs. and my sister is certainly not little any longer but it just proves my sister was and is a very, very good cook...
I know you've mentioned Texas this winter but what about the trip this way? Is it still on or on the back burner? So many people have heard about you and are beginning to think of you as a figment of my imagination.....

Becca, I'm sure you're as busy as ever and will be along...I keep thinking of all the flowers I'm going to be adding to my yard next year and it's mostly your fault, lol.....

Jana, hope it's cooled down a bit in your neck of the woods...Can't have you melting into a puddle...Waiting for more stories.......

I've been debating on whether to run to JoAnn's or just stay home and stay in the house....I can really talk myself into being lazy....I did work on a block for the swap but just not sure if I'm going to use that pattern.....I could work on a pillow my neighbor asked me to restuff but it's filled with feathers and I need to take it apart outside....
I'm so excited for the friend who will be moving near me...She now lives in a 3 bedroom house, does a lot of crafts and also does hair...Well, besides her hair stuff, she really has a lot of stuff she has to find homes for...The new home is just a 2 bedroom but we'll make it work, lol....Besides, she has 2 cats and will make a great cat sitter when and if I get the chance to travel again...My sister even said, she would love to get rid of her 8 room house and farm and move here....And once again, I can't believe how lucky I've been.....Just love it!

For my dinner, today might be the zucchini chili that almost got made yesterday..Of course it's getting thrown in the crock pot because I'm lazy, lol......

You all have a great rest of the day......

Happy eating.................

Good morning!
Mary, hmmmmmm apple pudding cake? Let me know how it turns out, I'm just not "tasting" it in my mind. šŸ¤”
Happy birthday to Bill šŸ„³šŸŽ‚šŸ·šŸ·
Carol, you have way more patience than me! Frankie asked me to teach him the computer..... let just say after about 5 tries and he hadn't learned how to even turn it on that I quit. There were rolling pin and frying pans being pictured in my head to use on his! I figured I'd better stop trying to teach him before he got hurtšŸ¤£šŸ˜‚
Irish, I bet your place is really looking nice! I love my flowers too. We haven't gotten my new flower beds built yet and I was looking yesterday and it really needs to happen this fall because I need to add new soil and do a major clean out, too bad I don't have your helpers!
We've been getting little showers in the evening, cools the evening off nice but we're still reaching 100 or a very close 99 in the day even with the humidity, I'm ready for Fall!
We have new baby turtles in the pond! They found their own way in this time! We'll be going in the turtle selling business in a year or 2 šŸ¤£šŸ˜‚ they are soooooo cool to watch! We've had turtles in the pond for 8 years, this is the first year for babies.
We were so tired last night that I had cereal and Frankie had salad. Tonight is either chicken fried steak or chicken with a veggie and salad for either.
We're taking Rosie and Duncan to the very tomorrow, their itching and chewing is driving us crazy. I've spent a small fortune on medicated shampoos and medicines from their vet and special foods plus the vet visits and nothing is working so we're going to try a new vet; the same one we took Winnie to for her tooth. This all started a little over 4 years ago with Rosie and she would break out twice a year so it was thought it was allergies so her food was changed to some high dollar grain free yada yada, that didn't help. This went on for 2 years and then Duncan started having the same problem. Vet took skin samples and said allergies, put them on medication. They mostly cleared up on medication but as soon as they finished it then it came back. Frankie started itching from the dogs, he said it felt like fiberglass was all over his arms and face. Back to the vet they went, more meds and medicated shampoo, no help and now Duncan has eye infections and ear infections. I feel so bad, we keep trying and they keep getting worse. It has to be contagious because these 2 are not related at all, even came from totally different states and are 2 years apart. I've started itching now too. The vet said it's not mites, scabies or any parasite, well it's something!
Sorry such a long story.
Tina

Good afternoon! We are hot and humid here. I keep thinking I have checked in, but guess I have been AWOL I just returned a bit ago from walking to Choc’s to let her out, and I’m trying to cool down. The temp is only 86 with a ā€œfeels likeā€ 94, but it is truly oppressive. Until time to walk out and bring Covid home for the night, I’ll stay INSIDE!

Mary, I add my sincere condolences, as well. He fought the good fight, and while you will miss him you can take comfort in knowing he is now free of the disease and pain.

We had a nest of Carolina wrens in my hanging basket of Dragon Leaf begonias. Last evening I wanted to try to water and keep the flowers hanging on, and I looked inside… 4 hatchlings were sitting expectantly waiting for a snack. I put my phone up and snapped a picture. This morning, I did the same. Surprise, the nest was empty! As Dinah Washington sang, ā€œWhat a difference a day makesā€¦ā€ My basket got a good drink this morning.

After Covid had his breakfast this morning, I let him out to do whatever it is he does—usually joining the herd. I did my workout and was looking out into the yard getting ready for breakfast when I saw Covid was walking across the yard. He went across and slipped through the fence wires without breaking stride. Just as he left my view, Frick and Frack the black and white twins went across the yard. As I watched, they seemed to think twice about crossing the cattle guard after trying it out. They then went down the fence, and I thought they would go through where Covid did. Apparently they didn’t notice and went back in the yard behind the pond. Pretty soon they returned. I was going to go open the gate and let them through, but they aren’t very tame. They took off at a trot and one of them sailed over the fence like a deer. The other slipped through the wires, and off they went at full tilt to find Covid and the herd.

I have very few flowers this year. What hasn’t burned up seems to have died. Same with my blackberries. I have gotten some, but the chigger crop seems to be unaffected by the heat. For those of you who don’t know what chiggers are, look them up! They make me miserable!

Mary, no gingersnaps! I love them!!! I have been thinking about making some. Milk and gingersnaps, tea and gingersnaps—yum!!! Your apple pudding cake sounds like kind of a bread pudding.

Speaking of cookies… my grandson’s cookies arrived just now! They were sent priority last Monday and arrived on base Wednesday evening. They finally got around to delivering on base today. He sent a pic, and at least the top ones looked intact. He was going to share with everyone this evening.

Q7—I have only used Zoom 3 times now, and I didn’t run the meetings, just installed the app and logged on to a link. It’s pretty cool. I have lost so much technical and software knowledge since I’m not working. I’m ashamed.

Irish—sounds like everything is falling in place for you! That’s so wonderful, and you sound so happy! I think I will hide zucchini in chili tomorrow night.

Becca—your flowers sound beautiful!

Tina—we don’t try to ā€œgrowā€ turtles; our pond has loads of them. Their heads show all over when they aren’t sunning on a rock on the bank. Maybe everyone and your dogs got into a nest of chiggers. I hope you find a solution!

Dinner tonight will be pizza and salad. Now I’m going to go work on my Christmas swap blocks…

Bon appƩtit!

Good afternoon!

Happy Birthday Bill! Sounds like your day got off to a great start! Enjoy all the fun! It is your special day!

Been fussing around here in the Batt Cave. Michael almost has all the track lines drawn on the next intricate piece of the railroad. These are the hard sections as they have to meet up just perfectly and are all the tracks that go into the storage yard. There is another one or two sections that are this intricate, then most of the track that needs to be laid are straigh shots. I have my lemonade skinnie all fused, but I do not like the the little black piece that is supposed to be the chalkboard, so I am redoing that part.

Kate stopped by - she needs her uniform pants hemmed - she got new ones - it is that time of year, when all the government agencies have to spend all the money. Aaron got new boots today as well. So I will be hemming those and sewing a patch on her winter jacket. With these temps, that won't be needed for awhile! LOL! Watch, I will sew on that patch and it will snow!

Dinner is marinating in the refrig - a copycat recipe for Popeyes chicken. We will see how this comes out - I have never deep fried chicken in my life - always just pan fried - so this is a first. We are still chicken - no pun intended - to eat out. Of all the statistics that are given out - the most important one - where and how the virus is spreading is our concern. The powers that be just say how many new cases in the county and that is not enough info to make wise decisions. There are some very large hot spots - where the virus is spreading - but not in my city. But then again, the virus knows no city boundaries to stay out of. So we eat here at the house! At least we know if we get sick, who to blame!

Well, need to get these pants done - did I ever mention that I HATE hemming!

Hugs,
Jana
