SUPPER CLUB - Sunday, July 5th

Post by purrfect-lady » Sun Jul 05, 2020 5:43 am

Good morning,

I hope you all had an enjoyable holiday, no matter how you spent it. We spent part of ours watching the rats running all over Vicki's back porch and yard. Double ick!!! Her son was there and brought a dog who chased the rats outside. In other news, I did a few uglies, and worked on my new quilt. I'm going to love it, I think! Love making it and love how it's going to look when I'm finished with it.

We had a nice evening around the campfire. I made a big green salad to go with our pizzas but forgot to serve it! Drat! So now we're going to be eating salad for breakfast, lunch, and dinner! lol!

BECCA - happy birthday to CA! Sounds like he's been celebrating all week long!

JANA - Wow! Lila sounds like she's a future sports star! I hope Gracie wasn't seriously hurt. I'm sure the new paper dolls made her feel better! I love polenta! Do you make your own or buy it in the tube thingies? My mom made cornmeal mush occasionally and put the leftovers in a loaf pan, chilled it, sliced and fried it. She didn't put sauces on it, but butter and either S&P or syrup. We called it fried cornmeal mush, but I suppose that was polenta, a word we'd never heard back then.

LORI - my boys don't seem too bothered by fireworks. Their ears twitch and they look around, but pretty much are kind of blase` about them. Did you make much progress on your vets quilt yesterday?

IRISH - you grew up on a farm, too?? We didn't get into baling our hay (had the neighboring farm come over with their baler) until later years. In my earlier years, we pitchforked it into the trailer behind the tractor and then reversed the process into the barn. Then we slept in it!! Mmmm.... The smell of fresh hay almost rivals the aroma of fresh bread! I remember you 'doing' weddings. I was never sure what all you were 'doing' - music? food? general bride wrangling?

TINA - I sure hope your heat backs off soon! How were the fireworks last night? And the blizzard? What flavor did you get?

CHICKIE - how was the party last night? We were just 6 people - easy to keep distanced. Hard not to hug hellos and goodbyes. Sorry about your berries. Is the entire crop gone or if you get rain, could there be more berries?

ROSEBUD - So, what did your surprise supper end up being? You can see fireworks from your front steps? neighbors or was there a city display? All displays were cancelled here.

Today will be laundry, packing the trailer for our upcoming 5-day camping trip to the Oregon Coast, and sewing. And supper will be leftover pizza and SALAD.

What's on your menu for tonite?

Good morning, good morning...

The surprise supper ended up being grilled burgers and chips. One of the long time ranch owners puts on a fireworks display on the river every year. You can see them perfectly from the front of my house. It's funny how his is always better than the city's display.

It is so sad about Vicki's living conditions with those rats. And it is even worse that the kids won't take more action regarding the health conditions it creates for her AND you.

Today will be another day of working in the yard. I need to get out there before it heats up too much. Once it starts getting too hot to work outside I'm thinking I'll come in and start laundry and dishes. While the machines are running through their cycles I will pull out fabrics for my Christmas blocks.

Supper tonight will probably be more grilled burgers, but with potato salad instead of chips.

Good morning!
I hope you all enjoyed your evening! Ours was really nice!
Mary, the fireworks display was really pretty! Holly was texting me telling me Preston's excitement over them LOL he didn't care for them much last year but was squealing with excitement this year! We were parked about 3 miles from their house, she asked me if I could hear him yelling LOL he was sooooo excited! I got the turtle pecan cluster blizzard, it was yummy! I like the heath ones too.
I love salad for breakfast LOL I add apples and dried cranberries for morning and use zesty Italian dressing, it goes perfect!
Maryrose, yummy surprise you had! It was just too hot here to cook out, we stayed inside with the coolers cranking.
Baca, so glad your family has been celebrating with you and CA for days, making days extra special.
Well we've got at least 7 days of over 100° coming up. We go out early and then just try to stay cool the rest of the day. The sun feels painful to me after 10am.
I think we're having salad for sure today, not sure what else.
Stay safe!

Good morning!

Lila comes by it genetically. Her other grandfather played baseball all his life and I did too. Until I got old and fat! My dad would umpire church sponsored games, so I went with him and was always around a ball field. I loved playing third base, and it was hard, because I am left handed and to make the throw to first, I had to turn so I could. I did it well and still love the game. Even taught Matt to pitch when he was little. Now to teach Lila! Gracie is doing fine and the ugly bruise is now even uglier as it heals, turning a nice shade of greenish yellow.

Matt is coming over tomorrow to mow lawns. His way of getting to play with the tractor. The boys have a lawn mowing business and on Mondays they are out by us. So will come and do our yard too. Then they are going camping up to Coalville for the rest of the week. They get all the lawns they do done on Mondays. Andrew, Logan, Tanner and Emma all have parts they do to mow the lawns. Crenda hooks up the utility trailer that hauls all the lawn equipment and drives them to their jobs. Stays and watches to make sure no one gets hurt. They have gathered a couple of lawnmowers and weed whackers, so they can all be working. Andrew, Logan, Tanner and Emma are, 14, 12, 10 and 7. They make good money in the summer. So I will make them a cool treat for when they are done. A ice cream cake, made with ice cream sandwiches, chocolate chip ice cream and strawberry ice cream, topped with cool whip. Very easy to make!

Sarah brought us some fresh corn on the cob. That will be our dinner tonight. No idea what will go with it yet.

Mary - it is so sad over at Vicki's and so dangerous too. Especially running over towards your house! Your camping trip will be nice. I have driven through Tillamook once. We were coming home from a trip to Snohomish and wanted to drive home the coast highway. We did until the car started giving us problems, so somewhere, we turn back inland and got back to I-5. Near Roseburg.

MaryR - it is fun to watch fireworks from home.

Becca - lots of goodies at your house - CA will be happy!

Our fireworks show went on for about three hours. Ethan came down, as we had a better view of the fireworks all over the valley. So far, no reports of fires, thank goodness! Tonight is the last legal night to shoot them off, then we do it all again for Pioneer Day celebrations. People here shoot them off on every block- bigger, longer and better than the city's show.

Church is still at home, and then I will head and play in my Batt Cave.

Stay safe!
Hugs,
Jana

Mary, glad you had a nice visit. Bummer about the salad.

Becca, Happy birthday late to CA. Sounds like he was having a good one.

Well the fireworks were so very loud and went on for over 5 hours. Wrigley hates them and was very upset all night long. They didn't bother Jack. It literally sounded like a war zone. It's never been like that in the 53 years I've lived here. The cats hid under the bed all night, and Emma has been under the weather today.
I think she's just stressed from all the noise. As I sit here typing, they are setting off more loud fireworks.
The air quality this morning was like a stage 4 smog alert. So disgusting. I'm all for celebrating, but it was a bit much.

I finished up the quilt for vets yesterday and cut out a small lap quilt last night. I'm about 1/2 done with it. Probably finish it up tomorrow.

Well dinner was get your own. I had potato salad and a beer.

Have a lovely evening.
