Good morning! I missed setting the table yesterday, but we didn’t starve!
First the farm… On Monday, Covid didn’t show up for his 2:00 lunch. Finally, at 5:30, the herd brought him back. He was READY to eat! Yesterday, I fed him breakfast and let him out into the yard. The cows were off in another pasture, so he stayed in the yard. I fed him lunch, then he must have wanted to find his friends wherever they were. Well… he did not show up for supper which is usually around 7 or 7:30. At 8:30 I started calling and looking for him. It got dark, and DH and I were out on the ATV looking at all the calves, but he wouldn’t come wherever he was. It’s difficult to see a black calf in the dark with no moon, and our spotlight quit on us. So… my boy stayed out all night—a rebellious teenager! This morning we were greeted with the sound of a calf bawling for breakfast and very impatiently he was! I made him his bucket, and he sucked down all of it and wanted more, but he didn’t get it. He followed me back to the house and even came on the porch and hollered at me. The cows were on the other side of the cattle guard and fence, so I have a feeling he went through the fence and is hanging out with his gang today. We will see what happens at lunch and dinner times. He is still a little young to fledge, but he’s really feeling like a big boy!
We had the rest of the liver and onions last evening. DH thought it was even better than the first night. I know you either love it or hate it—no in-between feelings about it. MaryRose and Becca, you would be welcome to partake!!! We get our liver from friends who have cows butchered and packaged, then they don’t want the liver. We are happy to get it!
Irish—We have a big hay meadow, and it’s beautiful now! It’s native grasses, so it’s not baled until sometime in July or early August unlike the fescue that they have already baled. I love the flowers out there! I want to do some cross stitch again, but I bet I’d have the same problem with my eyesight—no more 22-count Aida! I’m thinking 14-count could be challenging! I’m planning to raid DS3’s garden when I walk Choc. I just don’t have time to garden. I set my smoke alarm off regularly—it’s how I check the batteries are working! Peach cobbler would be awesome! And, I do like chicken pot pie! I’ll come eat with you!
Mary Rose—do come on over! I’m always looking for an excuse to make L&O, although DH really likes how I make it. We cleaned all of our batch up, but I’ll thaw another package!
If you hate to clean your electric oven—oven liners! I swear by them. The black crusty pie baked on ooze comes right off. You can pull them out and wash them and put them back in the oven. I don’t know if they work with gas ovens—probably not.
Becca—that’s how we got our forsythia bushes, too! Come on over for dinner! Beef stew also sounds yummy!
Jana—I’m sure you worry about Aaron every time he is out on a call. Our Aaron is volunteer fire chief as well as a first responder. He goes out on calls before the highway patrol arrives.
I heard from MaryZ, and they are on their way home. It will be about 2 days before they return. Their weather hasn’t been fun this time out.
I’m making sugar cookies to decorate for the christening Sunday. The dough is chilling, and I’ll bake them later and then start decorating. Yesterday I made a ton of tiny royal icing flowers. While the dough is chilling, I’m going to bake the layers for the cake and get them in the freezer to decorate on Saturday. Tomorrow and Friday will be cookie decorating.
Dinner tonight will be Parmesan chicken with broccoli and salad. I have some rice to go with DH’s.
Bon appétit!
