Good morning!

Today will be our warmest day since last Sept - 65* and sunny. Purrfect! I plan to spend a lot of it outside, working in the yard. I ran out of elastic to make more masks. But local facilities aren't returning my phone messages of offers of masks so I'm not too concerned. They must have enough. I've made almost 300 total, given away about 180. Another 100 are going to the Veterans home today and I'm keeping 8 in case a small need shows up. If I need more, I'll make more using ties, though I have an order of elastic in which will probably arrive just when the crunch is over. News reports are that our state's hospitals are now in good shape to handle everything. And the stay-at-home/social distancing is working well here in WA! All good news.

More good news (for our family, anyway), Yesterday Marge ate a little bit. I told Gene that was his anniversary gift. And he sent a photo of a red fox in the snow outside their dining room window (where he dumps his cooking failures). And Bill's sister is doing extremely well after her surgery and might get to go home today.

JANA - a real bummer about your stove. Though I've heard of people baking in their crockpots - especially bread. Do you have a toaster oven of any size? The handle on our microwave broke. Turns out you can't just buy a handle, but have to get a whole new door and that cost more than a new micro! Ridiculous!

LORI - if you ever decide to, say, take an Alaskan cruise and need a place to park a vehicle and your fur babies, I'll take them! You just might not ever get them back!

BECCA - we have a friend who had to go get Rx's yesterday. I was telling him about how you are able to drive thru most of your errands. He had no idea those services were available so he was going to look into it.

ROSEBUD - Did you buy your sandwiches or make them? They sound delish!

Chickie texted me that she is deep into making masks and surgical bonnets for the hospital where her DS's girlfriend works. She made for the GF, everybody loved them, and sent her a bunch of fabric and now she's kind of a one-woman factory.

I haven't heard from Irish for several days, but I'm sure still settling into her new home. And the virus is gathering momentum in her area so she's determined to stay home.

Last I heard from Tina, she was making masks for Holly's co-workers.

Tonite's supper is going to be teriyaki chicken on the grill, rice pilaf, saute'd "super greens", and sliced tomatoes. And we have chocolate cake for dessert, not that we need THAT!

What's on your menu for tonite?

Good morning!

Mary - found a recipe to do a glazed ham in the crockpot, so will be doing that for Easter dinner. Normally, normal?, I would do our Aunt Sarah salad, otherwise known as funeral potatoes, but they need a oven, so offered Michael potato salad. Not his favorite, so he suggested a macaroni salad, so it will be that. In times of non normal, we improvise!

Michael did find a schematic drawing - wiring diagram - and basically confirmed that the main board is fried. Then found that the electronics are under warranty for 5 years, then that the 5 years expired 2 months ago! UGGH! So we are still working in a solution.

Not much else here. Sewing masks and making my block for today. Maybe two, to get caught up for the number of days we have been in the stay home mode.

Dinner will be the chef salads idea from yesterday. Made a quesadilla from little bit of leftover nacho fixings for last night.

Oh, the lessons we are learning from this pandemic. What we need to have on hand and what we were short of. We are keeping a list of things we discover, in order to be better prepared for a next time.

Stay Safe!

Hugs,
Jana

Good morning...

Wow, Mary, 300 masks...You've been flying through them. I can't remember if I gave you the last update for returning to work. Unless another wave of time off is decided on by corporate, I will be returning to work on the 17th. The BBQ beef was homemade. I made a roast and divided it up to make shredded beef for tacos, BBQ, Stroganoff, and beef stew. I want to find some recipes for quiche to help use up eggs. LOL, when my son was looking for eggs, the only ones he could find on the shelf was a case at the restaurant supply store. None of the neighbors wanted to share, so I am looking for dishes that will be able to be cooked then frozen so they don't go to waist.

Jana what an awesome idea about making a quilt from mask scraps.

Tonight's supper will be fend for yourself/leftovers, egg salad, BBQ beef, tacos, or chicken and rice.

Mary/Rosebud

Good afternoon from a semi sunny, chilly, SW. Pa...We've had some great weather but now it's going to chance a little and might be a few of those white things flying around tomorrow...BUT, everything is growing and my yard is so green, Spring is here.......

Mary, I can't get over how you have whipped though those masks...And what great news about those in your family...We need to hear good news and hope for more.....You're right about getting settled in the house...BUT, I am now back to being a 1 home owner and it's great...My last trip to the old house was on Tuesday and that really had some bittersweet feelings....We had been in that house what seems forever and then to give it up.....But as I told everyone, Jim would be the last to leave and when I took his picture off the wall, I told him, we were going home....The closing was yesterday and the closer came to my new house, sat at the table and I signed scads of papers and she handed me the check...Funny, today, my horoscope said something like, heading the advice of someone to make sure my bank account was filled...Weird! I haven't met the new owner yet but have been told, she is a very sweet, single young lady of 26 and she works at one of the local banks....Made me feel good to hear she already loves the house and plans to live there for quite awhile.....

Becca, I so wish my pharmacy would have a drive thru, my old one did and I'm seriously thinking of going back....Love to hear the Frick and Frack stories, remember so many of mine and still laugh....And how great to have goodies delivered right to the door...Super nice.....

Jana, how come things go wrong when you might need them the most....And how come, getting them fixed costs as much if not more than buying new....Just doesn't make sense.....But, you are finding ways to over come this hurdle and it will work out.....I have a feeling, even if you had to cook on a old coal stove, your dinner would be delish......

Chickie, sounds like you are also knee deep in fabric...I think more and more people are realizing just how many people are helping out...You too are one of the many, many people who "doing their share".....

I had a call from my sister and she did tell me, she's cooking on Easter and I have a choice, come for dinner, do a drive thru or have 1 of her kids deliver...I'm thinking I might make some candy and maybe do a drive thru...But of course, if they insist on delivery, that's OK....I also had a call from the friend I visited in Naples and she flew back to Pa. yesterday and there were 6 people on the plane...Told her I want to her and her see the house but she has to wait until it's safe....

Today is sewing day...I still have boxes that need unpacked but they can wait....Lots need masks around here including the family.....As for my dinner, I'm thinking, poached egg and toast...I made the mistake of making halushki (cabbage and noodles with lots of butter) the other day and since then, have to watch what I eat.....

You all have a great rest of the day.....

Happy eating..............

Hi Everyone,
I have been making masks with ties for my family. Not as many as MaryZ and a few others here however. I received an e-Mail today from the Sew and Vac in Long Beach California. They gave information on a mask designed by Patrick Lose Studios that can use ribbon, elastic, twill tape or shoe laces. There is a warning that twill tape will stretch. The pattern is free so for those of you looking to make more masks and are out of elastic here is the link or you can do a search: https://media.rainpos.com/384/mask_tutorial_final.pdf

Jana - I too have realized a few things I should have had on hand, but curious what is on your list? I should keep more tomato products on hand - Crushed Tomatoes, diced tomatoes and tomato sauce, also pasta and egg noodles.

Tonight's dinner will be my Fast Hash recipe (Ore-Ida O'Brien Potatoes and Ground Turkey).

Mary, that's so generous of you. However, I have never been on a cruise and have no intention of ever going on one. Especially after all the sick people on the ships. Yuk! And I hate buffets.

Jana, bummer it was the mother board. We had one replaced once, but it was still under warranty. The repair man said the board was almost as much as a new oven. Seems quite stupid to me. I actually had everything we needed. I don't buy a lot of things to store, but I usually have a back up of the things I use more. Like flour and baking supplies. You can do a lot with flour. From bread to pasta.

Maryrose, cookies and cakes freeze really well. Sounds like you've been cooking up a storm.

Irish, it's nice that you have choices for Easter. So glad you are enjoying your new place.

Becca, out hall light has been out for a month. DH said he was going to replace it, but I think he forgot. The other morning I was in the kitchen and had the light on because it was still dark out. I shut the light off and heard what I thought was a glass hitting the tile floor I turned the light back on but could really see what had broken. Then I looked up and saw the light bulb had exploded. I've never seen that happen before. There was glass everywhere. What a mess. DH change that one out right away.

Carol, we should all have these masks perfected by the time this is over. Somehow I think the next virus will be worse, so the patterns should come in handy.

For dinner I think I'll keep it simple tonight. Orange Chicken and rice, with zucchini.

Have a lovely day.
