SUPPER CLUB - Thursday, Feb 20th

Post by purrfect-lady » Thu Feb 20, 2020 7:01 am

Good morning,

I slept in this morning! Hooray! Second time this week I've slept past 0500. Dog had to go out about midnight so maybe he slept later this morning and that's why I did, too. I do love early morning, but 0330 was a little TOO early, even for me.

Yesterday we were 56* and sunny. And no breeze. So nice! Though it's freezing at night. I spent the 34* morning sewing but went outside in the afternoon after it warmed up and helped DH wash/clean truck, inside and out. Now all I have to do is fill out our emergency info that we always keep in the glove compartments of both vehicles and we're good to go.

In sewing news, I got my binding and label on my Christmas Country Charmer. Now it's all ready to pack away til next Christmas. lol! Then I laid out my next ding dang orphan quilt which is all 12" blocks so much easier and quicker than the last one, and started sewing it. Today my plan is to get that top done, too, and start laying out the third. If today is as nice as yesterday, I might be outside again this afternoon. Loving the feel of the sun on my back! We have a little Japanese Maple to plant, which means we have to move one of the new little rhodies we just had planted by landscapers last December.

CHICKIE - I love the faith you have in your Hooligans to protect you! And maybe they would. If Scottie saw a perp reaching into his pocket for a gun, he'd sit and be ready for a cookie! lol! That's where I keep my stash of cookies. When you say "go to the store for ribbon roses" do you mean the LQS in Edna? Maybe the floral department at Safeway would have them. I used to read another author - the one whose books were the basis for the TV show, BONES. Her name escapes me right now. But she also got too intense and descriptive. I gave her up.

JANA - that's a lot of tissue holders! I've got one that Chriss gave me a long time ago and I used it for a pattern to make several to give as gifts. They go quickly, but still - 70 of them takes a lot of time! Are yours mostly different fabrics? We have a few car wash places in G.H. In fact a new one will be opening up later this month. But Bill won't use them. We took our truck through one once and it ripped off the antenna and beat the truck up with it! We had dents, scratches and gouges all over by the time we came out the other end. Plus, Bill is insistant on using a specific soap - Maguires, I believe. So he does it himself. Which is fine by me, if he would do it! He does the truck about 5 times a year and the car once - if I nag him.

BECCA - Bill's mom always carried an extra couple bottles of oxygen in the car just for those forgetful times. Kids reading is the BEST!! When Autumn started first grade, she couldn't read anything but her name, but come December of that year, teacher started a program where if her students read aloud to anyone - and the dog counted as someone - parents would record the title on the special forms she provided the kids. There was room for 25 books on the form. Between Dec and end of the school year Autumn read 361 books out loud. We went to the library twice a week and got armloads of stories. She and I would snuggle up in my bed and she would read 3 or 4 every evening. Later, in college, she went through a rough patch and once again, we snuggled up on my bed and we took turns reading kids' stories to each other. And today she is a co-director of a community library system in Austin, TX and has a huge book collection of her own. So, I say, read, read, READ! Your DGKs are on the right track!

TINA - I bet it felt good to get outside in your yard with your beautiful weather! Oh, a quilt show for you now! Must be quilt show season! And free entry! We had to pay $7 each. I thought that was a bit steep for what they had to offer. I hope you have a super day! No one deserves it more than you!

I'm not coming up with an idea yet for supper. Maybe a white pizza. I have a little chicken in alfredo sauce left over from last night so if I spread it on a pizza crust, add a few veggies, it might be good. Or I might go with pancakes and eggs! We have some turkey sausages in the freezer. I'll let Bill decide but those are his options for tonite.

How are your options looking?

Good morning! We have a light covering of snow that fell during the night. We won’t be out of the 30s today. I can hope it will be warmer tomorrow!

Mary—I’ll get the little roses at W-M… if they still have them! They keep cutting back on everything only to put in more grab-and-go, fully prepared foods. They definitely don’t cater to my tastes! If I can’t find the roses, I’ll make some little yo-yos (which I probably should be doing in the first place). You had a very productive day yesterday!

I had a little diversion from my sewing. Yesterday DH went to cut wood in the afternoon. Have I mentioned he hates having to open and close gates??? Well, he left the gate by the house open. I was sewing along and saw a parade of cows go by outside my window. Had to go put on hat and jacket and do a round up. One of my bucket calves (now a cow with a calf) Pocket Lint brought her calf as well as another cow and calf and some more cows. I was doing good at getting them all through the gate, and then Pocket Lint decided she was going to stay in the yard. (When she was little and I was bottle and bucket feeding, she lived in the yard.) I had to go back and get a bucket of range cubes (cow treats), to get her to go through the gate. By this time, all the cows had seen the bucket and came running for the open gate! Stampede!!! It was funny, and probably a little dangerous as they are BIG girls, but I managed to get everyone through the gate to the pasture and the range cubes on the ground and skedaddle out before getting trampled by the feeding frenzy. Have I mentioned, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the cows and the farm!
We have always had books in the family. I grew up with children’s books as well as a set of Childcraft. I loved reading those volumes! When DD was little, we had Golden Books and lots of reading. We bought Schoolastic books from her Weekly Reader pages. I could do without supper so she could order books. I started DGS reading, and when he went to kindergarten, he read at 2nd grade level. In second grade, he read at 5th grade level. I got DGD to reading, but unfortunately for both electronics took over and books fell by the wayside. I just hope their early exposure to books will come through later.

Becca--I read under the covers with a flashlight. I thought I was being so clever, but I think the light went through the covers and gave me away every time!

Jana--that is a bunch of tissue holders, but you will speed through them in no time, I'm sure!

DH will be home in a few, so I best be getting brunch started. Dinner tonight might be some leftovers—red beans and rice and brats. It’s too early to think, although I do like the idea of a white pizza, Mary.

Bon appétit!

Good morning!
Mary, we went to a quilt show a couple weeks ago and it cost us $7 each for that one and it really wasn't worth it. I didn't even find anything to buy. And what's up with vendors at a quilt show that have nothing to do with quilting?!
I have to go see if you posted a pic of your Christmas Charmer quilt after here.
Frankie taught Holly and Kevin to read while I fixed supper every night. He did flashcards with them then books. Both my kids won reading competitions at the library, they would read over 500-600 books through the Summer. Thankfully Maria is the same and she reads to Matthew all the time ❤
Becca, sorry things were closed and too long to wait for others, hopefully today will be a better day for you.
Chickie, what a visual LOL too funny! I love seeing the cows next door too. They're little, not a year old yet.
We're supposed to have a storm coming through Saturday. Frankie did get the back yard mowed but it was just a quick as he could so it would be mowed. It was almost dark. He locked his keys in his truck yesterday so Holly had to bring him home and then me take him back in with spare keys so it was about 6 when were got back. He said he'll try to get the weed eater around the edges this evening but it just depends how tired he is and the weather. Then I'll need to get the leaf blower out again and get it all cleaned up with that again.
We didn't get our burger ate last night so supper tonight will be some form of that.

Good morning!

Class tonight, so dinner is where the car wanders off too.

Mary - I use to be picky about car soaps, waxes, cleaners, then the arthritsis set in. My new carwash, named Gorilla Car Wash is really good and the car comes out shiny! One Ding Dang quilt down, only three more to go. For some reason, I only have one or two orphan blocks around here. Many end up at Sarah's, as parts of the many tote bags she makes.

Chickie - fun on the farm! Maybe the girls figured out to open the gate themselves, just to get treats!

Becca - I hate long wait times. Here we can sign in online and only have a couple of minutes to wait. But lately I gave decided to let my hair grow out long again.

Well, a bit of put back in order uglies. Sun is shining brightly, but is so deceiving, it is 14 outside.

Enjoy,
Jana
