SUPPER CLUB - New Year's Day!

Good morning!

Happy New Year! So, how did your New Years Eve celebrations go? We had a nice time but didn't make it to midnight. The steak dinner at the Eagles was better than expected, I must say. And what the band lacked in talent they more than made up for with volume. We were at the table farthest from the speakers and still had to yell in each other's ears to talk. We gave them the first set and then left while our eardrums were still intact. Boy! Do I sound like an old lady or what?? lol! Everyone came to our house for dessert, coffee, and champagne. They all left before 11pm and we went to bed! Today we have other friends coming for supper - bean & ham soup and Chickie's baking powder biscuits. Tomorrow we start our Christmas Take Down. Looking forward to getting back to normal again.

Yesterday we got all the house uglies done by 10am. Then I decided to swap some furniture around in my sewing room and reorganized a few things. Hope I can remember where it's all at now! LOL! For all of this, I blame or credit (still to be determined) LORI who said a few days ago she was thinking of reorganizing her fabric!

BECKY - so - did you make it to New Years? Hope whatever happens with the new step-mom-to-be, all the kids will eventually be happy. And yes, we used to have to drive a little on Vicki's property to park our trailer. And we mowed her entire yard for many years in exchange for that. But then, after the Huntington's took over in her brain, she would come out and stand in front of our truck and yell and curse. We removed some of our landscaping and moved the shelter back 10 feet to give us more swing room so we no longer had to set tires on her grass. This new shelter is 4 feet wider so we have even more room now. She will still yet at us because she believes our property is hers - very typical thought process of Huntingtons.

JANA - I LOVE potato cheese soup! Can I please have Michael's share?? And yes, this shelter is 20Wx40Lx14H. Bill wanted room to be able to put out the slides and still walk around the trailer. My retractable clothesline stretches across in front of the shelter when I'm using it.

BECCA - You're right - moving is such a big upheaval, though if you decided to do it, I suspect you wouldn't have to lift a finger! Your family would be right there to do all the heavy lifting, fingers and all! It's too bad that they can't figure out how to get blood draws for your sweetie without him having to go to the dr.

LORI - thank you for the inspiration to make changes in my sewing room. Now when I can't find things, I have someone to blame! The rock will imbed into the ground and grass will grow in around it. By next summer Bill should be able to mow in that area if it needs it. We mow with the tractor and a brush hog with blades set fairly high - not a walk-behind. I saw your quilt photo in yesterday's sew-in. Nice! I like those blocks together.

CAROL - I think Cindy had the same machine. She swapped it out for a different one a couple of years ago, but I'm not sure what she got. Bigger throat is all I know. Do you live in Rose Parade country? Autumn used to live about 8 blocks from the parade route before she moved to Texas and they would walk to watch the parade.

TINA - glad you are going to be getting a few days to yourself! We love our grands, but sometimes we need to rest and regroup.

CHICKIE - do you and Doyal have any plans for today?

IRISH - I sure hope you are feeling better!

My uglies are done, the laundry is caught up, I have no UFO's to play with and dinner for tonite is prepped. What to do, what to do . . . . The friends we were out with last night are having an open house today and want us to stop over (7 miles away) and we may do that and then get back home well before our own company arrives at 4pm. I kind of feel like we've been on a holiday whirlwind for the last 2 weeks! Fun, but now I'm ready to sit down and be bored!! lol!!

Happy New Year to everyone!
No, we did not make it to midnight this year. We were watching the ball in New York, and a little before it dropped, Shannon asked the two kiddos that were here if we could toast when it dropped in New York, and Brytt said gladly, she was more than ready for bed, and Ian said he didn't care, so they woke Grandpa up, and while he grumbled, we did it, then went to bed, then his cell phone started in....he had cousins, acquaintances etc wishing all a happy new year, and even a new grandbaby for one of his co-workers, around 12:15......might as well stayed up, but we are now well rested, and chomping at the bit for the destruction of Christmas to begin!
Your shelter does look nice Mary. Too bad about Vicky. That disease just sounds horrible. Does she ever have glimmers of the old Vicky? Hard to watch, for sure.
The grands will be happy no matter what the dad decides. Except for the few times they visit with him, it won't really matter. Brytt just stresses about everything! She said a while back that no sense in really getting to know them, he will just change it up. Ericka called her last night, and said they were fighting, and he called her fat and a lush, so Brytt said I guess this one is a no go......really sad, but it is what it is.
I have a roast here to chunk up and put in the crock pot. Shannon wants beef tips for dinner tonight, with broccoli. If I put it in the crockpot, will just have to do the noodles and broccoli, come dinner time. I have some yeast rolls raising, and still plenty of sweets left if they want them, but I am thinking a lot of those need to go.
Will be so glad to get back to being able to sew a day or two every week. My oldest grand got me two of those suction handles to go on my rulers. He is actually more excited for me to try them than I am! Ha...apparently, he and a cousin went Christmas shopping, and they learned a lot in the quilt shop. I asked him if he thought he might want to quilt (he did help when he was little) but he told me that with all the little gadgets and fabric, it may be too expensive for him. He is into buying power tools now!
Hope everyone has a great day, and a very good new year. Becky

Good morning!

Happy New Year!

I have the parade on, typing between bands and floats. Love watching the bands take that turn by the grandstands. It is not a simple 90 degree turn, but about 130 degree turn, which makes it difficult to keep the rows and columns straight. Sarah has marched in the Rose parade, a few years back! Then marched in Disneyland after that.

Didn't make midnight. Watched all the neighbors fireworks - they started early.

A bit of laundry and then playtime in the Batt Cave.

Dinner - leftover noodles, if Michael doesn't get to them earlier in the day.

Also snowing a bit right now. If it falls a little at a time, that is fine with me. When it dumps all at one time, that's when problems happen.

OK all mistakes are the parade's fault!

Enjoy,
Jana

Jana, the weather is perfect for the Rose Parade today. I watched about 1/2 and then took Jack for a walk.

Maryz, You're welcome.lol I haven't done my fabric yet. I got side tracked with a few other things. It will be a big task, so I need available hours to do it.

Last night we BBQ'd steaks. They were so good. DH went to the butcher and got very expensive beef. So worth it. Today I'll be making my traditional chicken enchiladas. I made the pinto beans yesterday and got most everything ready. As soon as the chicken is cooked, I'll be ready to roll.

Have a lovely new years day.

Happy New Year!
Isn't it wonderful that we get to start a new year? It always is fun to be able to anticipate the events of the year.

Maryz - I live way south of Pasadena, however I have been to the Parade several times. It is a beautiful sight.

I didn't make it to 9:00 our time let alone midnight! I was exhausted yesterday. My husband stayed up to keep the cat calm, but I think she slept through it. lol

Tonight we will be going out to eat and I plan on a ham dinner. (We just did not want any leftovers!) I am filling my time quilting and have definitely made progress. I have a lot to do though.

I just bought the perfect Christmas gift for Michael - for this upcoming Christmas - 2020. Michael has a collection of Orange traffic cones that he has collected - via the kids - over the years - he does use them to mark holes and such around here. So with that backstory - Sarah found a Orange Cone glass ornament on Amazon, so I ordered it!. It will be his Christmas Pie gift. Now I will just have to remember I have it, all these months!

Whenever my kids, as teenagers, saw abandoned orange cones, they brought them home and put them in the bike shed we had in the sideyard. So, over the years, they gathered many! Here, Michael would mark the street, when we had dirt, gravel, or whatever was delivered in left in the street, so no car would crash into the hazard. It is a joke here that when Michael is dead, at his funeral, the flowers on the casket, will have a orange cone in the arrangement. I know, we are weird! LOL!
