SUPPER CLUB - Saturday, Nov 30

Post by purrfect-lady » Sat Nov 30, 2019 6:22 am

Good chilly morning!

28* but no precip here. Maybe a little slushy rain tomorrow but today looks like blue skies. I want to get outside and cut back my peonies and my hydrangea. All little bushes still, but the internet says to cut them now, so I better do what the internet says.

We cut a tree yesterday - 8-1/2 foot douglas fir, full, lush, and BIG. It might take half the living room! We'll put it up later today or tomorrow. It's in a bucket of water out on the deck right now. Today is a free day. Nothing is written on the calendar. Whoo Hoo! I need to make a few phone calls, and we have an item to return to Costco. While we're out, we may swing by some friends just for a quick visit. Otherwise, I plan to be in my sewing room today.

BECCA - I read in sew-in that Brodee came home yesterday! Hooray!! I bet his parents are over the moon if a little nervous. How far away do they live from you? What a Thanksgiving for you all!

JANA - and you have 4 feet of snow! and if they plow your circle, where will all the snow go?? Didn't you talk about a heated driveway a while back? . . . . . Not a bad idea! I can only imagine how busy Aaron and Kate must be. And Tanner already finished his quilt! I mentioned in Sew-in that I think a novel quilting plan is for him to do it in his own handwriting, journaling about things in his life so far. That would be a really cool memento of this age. I was reading news this morning and saw that "our" Richard Sherman (Seahawk for many years and now one of your 'Niner's) paid off more than $20,000 in lunch debt for school kids on the free or reduced lunch program in Tacoma, restocked a local food bank, and did the same thing in Santa Clara, CA. I know other players on other teams do similiar things in their communities. It's wonderful to see big names make such positive differences in people's lives.

CHICKIE - I know you've had some rough times with Mom the past few days as she starts to fade. I pray it's peaceful and gentle for her and for you.

TINA - how's it going at your place today? Are you recovered from TG yet?

IRISH - and what about you? How are you feeling? when is your next doctor appt? You talked about a trip to FL in December. Are plans firming up or on hold?

Supper here will be what supper will be probably across at least half the nation - turkey pot pie. This will use up the last of the veggies, gravy, potatoes, and some of the turkey. Tomorrow will be turkey enchiladas, and if anything is left after that - turkey rice soup.

How's the turkey coming along at your house?

Good morning!

Guess what, more snow is falling as I type! When the plow comes through, he just clears a path, a loop through the court. We have to shovel and keep the apron of the driveway clear ourselves. The snow just piles up in the gutter area. All vehicles have to be off the street until Spring. Our Solara is in the our driveway and the truck is across the street at Sandee's. She has plenty of room, in front of the motorhome in her side yard. Like Matt, the motorhome and his trailer are winterized and won't be taken out until Spring. My little snow chicken is back on the barn roof, too. It is my weathervane/station, and it gets covered in snow. Looks like a chicken with ears!

Mary - sounds as if you got the perfect tree! I always pucked out a tree that was taller than our ceiling, just because I liked the top 8 feet best! Now, that is hard to do, with where my tree sits, to find one that is more than 12 feet! Hence the fake tree. The biggest one I got was 10 feet and it sits on a sturdy wooden box, we need room under the branches for the big train to fit. And a tall ladder to decorate it! My other two trees are only 8 feet.

Yes, I do three trees. One in the great/family room, one in the front window in the living room and one in the family area of the Batt Cave. Each one has a different theme. Red and white for the front tree, the tree is white, with red ornaments and the Batt Cave tree has railroad ornaments and signal lantern lights. I have tried to find a good space in the outside front yard to plant a Christmas tree that I could add lights too, but haven't succeeded there yet. The tree in the great roim is all my old family ornaments that I got from my mom. There are not many left, as they are older than me. I have added many many more over 45 years of marriage. I have 6 ornament boxes that hold more than 125 each. Told ya I have enough for all y'all.

Mary - I have the same Costco centerpiece - it was the one that Scrooge saw yesterday. He went and found my stash of battery candles to put inside the glass vases. He also found the remote to turn the candles on and off. He started to bring out my Dickens Village to set up. That is his project, to get all the houses lit and the wires hidden. He is fussy about that.

Dinner - some turkey left, so we will where that goes....

Enjoy,
Jana

Good afternoon from chilly, dreary, SW. Pa....I have a feeling winter might be headed our way but if I keep the drapes pulled and pretend, it's spring! (as I sit here with my heavy socks and sweats on).....But, so far, we've been lucky, just a few flakes (snow that is) in the air but nothing to even write home about....

Mary, Would like to have had a picture of you and Bill coming home with your tree and of course, we really do want to see it when it's all "dressed"...Terry got my ornaments out of the shed and I have my tree sitting in the garage so maybe one of these days, I'll put everything together....
I had wanted to go visit with Virginia before the end of the year but that has been put on hold...If not sooner, I will be going to Naples in Feb. and I'll be able to stop and spend time with her....My doctor is on vacation next week and then I'll go, I think the week after....I'm just not thinking about it....
I had a call from Cari and since she didn't make it for Thanksgiving, she and Lena will be coming next week and will be staying with me...I am so looking forward to having that little one here but since she's now "running", I probably won't be able to keep up with her, lol.....

Becca, what great news...I can only imagine the excitement, the anxiety, the love you all are feeling....What a blessing....I too was wondering how far away are you from the babies....Before you know it, they'll be sitting on your front porch swing with you.....

Jana, It's beginning to sound like the North Pole in your neck of the woods...AND when you get your trees up, it really will be Santa's house....One thing I sure don't envy is all that snow but I guess it is winter, dang......
Kathy said, right after they got over the pass they closed Rt. 80...They are staying at Travis AF Base and planned on coming back to Reno maybe on Tuesday if they can get across....

Chickie, I too have been thinking about you and sending gentle hugs to your Mom along with prayers....Being with someone and watching that loved one has to be one of the toughest things a person goes through...Be strong my friend, you really are special.....

Last night Nick and I talked for almost 2 hours and it was great getting caught up with his life...He still isn't sure just when he'll be coming home but thinks he'll have about 2 weeks before he leaves for England...He seems really excited about his decision and boy does he sound grown up...Also talked to Stephan and my heavens, he makes me so proud...He and his wife, Christine, spent most of the day on Thursday cooking and then feeding those fellows who still lived in the dorm, were single or just had no where to go on Thanksgiving....I think I really need to pat Terry on the back for raising these 2 almost single handedly and helping them along the right path....As I've said so many times, I'm very, very blessed....
Today is kind of a "little ugly here, little ugly there" day....Waiting for the Notre Dame game to come on and then it will be stuck in my recliner, Baby Girl on my lap, trying to cross stitch while pushing the Irish over the goal line...(No wonder I'm so tired after these games)...

I think I've already had my dinner...Made potato cakes with the spuds, had left over gravy, stuffing and veggies...I had chicken so I'm going to make a pot pie with what's left, maybe tomorrow....Later I'll probably get into some goodies and call it "dinner", lol.....
Oh well, time for the game.....

You all have a great rest of the day....

Happy eating............

GO IRISH! :D :D

Irish - there is another way to get around I 80 and the Donner Pass closure - take Hwy 70, through the Feather River Canyon, to the Halleujah junction with Hwy 395, that goes to Reno. Rarely is the canyon closed. It is a much lower pass than Donner. This is one the railroad uses heading East.

What a mess Aaron is dealing with today! A double tanker semi, carrying butane rolled over and is leaking its load on the main interstate I-15, shutting it down cold, in both directions. That is 10 lanes of freeway! They also evacuated some apartments near the accident. Aaron is keeping closed on-ramps, as the troopers deal with the accident and clearing the cars off the freeway. People were being so obnoxious! They were turning around and trying to drive the wrong way on the freeway and down the on-ramps. They were being beligerant and not obeying Aaron's orders. He had to call for backup of some troopers. The troopers came, gave the drivers direct orders, to which those drivers gave the same treatment to the troopers. The troopers wrote out several tickets, thinking that would quell the situation, but no. One driver took his ticket and then tried to proceed against the troopers orders anyway. Out came the taser and handcuffs. The driver finally obeyed. What a mess! The road is still closed for several more hours. The accident happened at 10 am this morning. Fire is on scene and so far, no fire or explosion.

Supper tonight is turkey and yeast roll sandwiches with deviled eggs on the side. I was going to make a turkey pot pie, but after work I had to get new windshield wiper blades and it was too late when I got home. I can make that for supper tomorrow night if I don't change my mind, lol.
