SUPPER CLUB - Wed, Nov 13

Post by purrfect-lady » Wed Nov 13, 2019 5:41 am

Good morning,

Our news tells us that half the nation is in an deep freeze, uncommon for this early in the season. I hope everyone is keeping warm!

Yesterday was a good visit with Albert and Carmen. Al was interested in all the family stuff but Carmen's eyes were positively glittering with excitement! And she said her DD, Nikki, who lives on the eastern side of the state, can't wait to see it all, either! I know it's all going to a good home - a home that isn't mine! Sottie seemed confused last night that his "bed" was gone. Poor boy had to sleep on the floor! No comfy steamer trunk to curl up on!

BTW, Carm's DD, Nikki (my great-niece) recently announced that she is pregnant and expecting her third little girl in May. I get to make another baby quilt! When Nikki was expecting her first baby and working out a name, I offered "Mary", saying it had always worked well for me. So for two years Albert called the baby (eventually named Madelyn) BAM for Baby Aunt Mary. Her second girl was named Savannah. Can't wait to hear what the new one will be.

So we had a good lunch of pizza and blueberry pie. Turns out that Albert's least favorite pie is blueberry. Who knew?? Not me! He did try a tiny sliver though, just pro forma, and pronounced it not as bad as he thought it was going to be. lol! That's a brother for you!

Today's plan is to work some more on my table topper. The front is finished, 25"- square and is a wreath, and I plan to piece the back, too, so it is 2-sided - a tree from log cabins perhaps. Or maybe just a small quilt of 6" traditional blocks from scraps of Christmas fabrics, an idea that is growing on me . . . I'll figure it out.

TINA - your poor puppies. They are miserable with the itching plus they have to have 8 baths each in the next month! From all my research here, dogs aren't fans of baths!

BECCA - I'm sure you're busy getting everything finished up and your baking done for the fund-raiser. I know they are having an auction at this event but do they plan anything else, too? Dinner? Bake sale? Donation jar? Money tree? Praying for huge success! The money raised will be a big benefit to Levi and Taylor but the emotional boost they get from all this support will be equally important!

IRISH - smart move to let Ruby stay warm and comfy in the garage! I know the news shows the most dramatic snow/ice incidents but it sure looked like a day to stay inside and off the roads to me! What are you doing in your kitchen window? Cleaning it? Swapping out curtains? decorations? I have a 4-ft garden window with a shelf in it in front of my sink. I have to climb up on the cupboard and get on my knees in the window well to clean the top of it. I sit with my feet in the sink to get the rest. Consequently, guess who is sporting a dirty window 95% of the time!

JANA - Sometimes I hear Amazon is a great company to work for and other times I hear of dismal working conditions - no breaks, windows, A/C, etc. I'm anxious to hear what Stu has to say! I hope he loves it! I think four 10's is a great work week! Bill worked that shift for several years (when he worked!) and we always had 3-day weekends! Sweet!

CHICKIE - I'm glad your sister's trip is off but sorry to hear your mom is declining enough to have to cancel. But at 101, maybe we could think of it as more like progressing? To a better life? I bet Ava was stylin' as she rocked that little coat! Neat that you got a bit of sewing time in for your birthday! And a birthday supper cooked by your DDIL!

Supper - maybe stew in the crockpot. It will be nice to be able to smell supper cooking all day long and then, come suppertime, NO COOKING! I think we'll have a salad, too, because my lettuce, tomatoes, and last avocado need eating up.

What do you plan to eat up tonite? Or are you waiting til this evening to surprise yourself?

Good morning! We are still cold, but we are going above freezing today! It’s now 32 and sunny, but the wind is horrific—real feel 20.

Last evening was a big surprise! I thought it would just be us for supper. When we arrived, it was the entire family with only a few exceptions. There was also another couple with their twin girls. There was a huge spread of accompaniments to the Philly cheesesteak sandwiches and brownies for dessert. I’ve never had a surprise party before. What a great evening!!!

Yes, Mary—Mom doesn’t want to be here any longer and is waiting to get to that better life. Last evening DGDIL said her great grandma lived to 103 and was blind and ready to go on. She said the Lord had forgotten her.

I plan to walk Ava and spend some time in my sewing room. I may make some more pot holders, but I have some other projects as well, so I might work on them. Decisions, decisions…

Dinner tonight—no cooking again! The hunters are going to the steakhouse and invited us to go along. You know me—I never say no to a dinner out! I should have leftovers for several meals, so no cooking for a few days! (Doin’ the happy dance!)

Bon appétit!

Good morning!
Mary, I'm glad I don't have a window like your kitchen window, it would never get cleaned for sure! LOL
I feel bad for Rosie and Duncan too, they actually don't mind baths at all but they sure can't figure why Mom is giving them theirs LOL they're used to their groomer and love seeing her every 2 weeks! I bet I'll have the cleanest dogs in the county, if not state by the time all of it is done!
Chickie, priceless what your DGDIL said. I'm so happy you had a surprise birthday party! Sounds like so much fun!! And now tonight, supper out! Woohoo it's good to be you!
I let Mr. Gears vacuum this morning, I dusted and cleaned the other bathroom... figured I might as well have them both clean at the same time even though it wasn't dirty. I've gotta start laundry here in a minute, Frankie is out of tighty whities LOL
Easton is tired of peanut butter sandwiches. I figured that wouldn't last very long. So now I need to find something to send with him. They can't heat anything and I'm not sure about an Ice pack ever coming back to me if I send one. Any suggestions?
We're going to have chicken tonight, i had it thawing yesterday but as bad as i was hurting we grabbed chicken tenders for supper after dropping Jazz off at basketball practice. Frankie had a leg hurting from the cold so he wasn't in the mood for much either. Dad will be here tonight.
We were 28 this morning! I think our high will be 64.

Good morning!

Gracie and Lila have the toy box out and playing with the toys. Mostly cars and trucks, but they seem to be enjoying them. I do have a wooden paper doll with princess clothes for Gracie, she loves that.

My boys will be here for dinner. Sarah is leaving on a early anniversary trip. Her anniversary is December 30th, so all the hotels are booked and outrageous in price, hence the early. I am feeding Stu and Ethan until Sunday. So tonight will be chicken parm and spaghetti. Stu is making sure to get Ethan to school, then Ethan walks here.

So I am upstairs today. The Batt Cave is nowhere near toddler proof. The little girls go home early in the afternoon, then I can sew.

Mary - what fun to find a good home for all the family treasures. Sarah has my Grandmother's cedar chest, but I have all the family history and dishes. I have china place settings of my great grandmother and grandmother. My grandmother was born in 1875, so they are old.

Chickie - surprise parties are wonderful and a second night of no cooking! No oje has forgotten Mom, she is loved by all!

Tina - not only the cleanest puppies in the county, but the world! But the down side is after all these baths, they may start dreading them!

Well, need to find my Lila, it is too quiet in here! LOL!

Enjoy,
Jana

Good afternoon from a very cold, wintery, Sw. Pa...another good day to stay inside, with the drapes closed.....
BIG ANNOUNCEMENT! Harriet from the N. Ft. Myers nest laid her 1st egg of the season...She really pulled off a good one this year and surprised everyone with the early event....She'll probably have a 2nd in a day or so...The only bad thing, there has been an owl in the area causing problems by knocking the eagles off their branches...Now with the egg, these eagles will really have to be alert....What's bad, eagles don't see very well in the dark and they'll have a hard time chasing down the owl....Just hope everything goes well...

Mary, what a good feeling knowing all those treasures are going to a good home....Most of our "treasures" have been given to those who wanted them, thank goodness...Now it's just my Irish stuff, my Fenton cats and of course the quilts...And about the name, 3rd time might be the charm, as they say....
You had asked if Kathy and Tim were coming for Christmas and yes they are! Of course I'm not sure just how much time they'll spend with me. I'm sure "Princess Lena" will have something to do with where they'll be.....Thank goodness for the little ones, without them, the holidays would be kind of sad....

Chickie, Wow, a surprise birthday dinner, that's great! And another dinner out tonight, life is good! What you had said about your Mom being ready reminds me of Jim's Mom...After she got into her 90s, on her birthday, she'd say to Jim, "You know I'm not going to be here next year" and he'd always joke and say, you going on a vacation??? Well, on her 99th, she said it again and about 2 weeks before her 100th, she got her wish...She was a remarkable woman, great inspiration....One little story, she was a home body and Jim's brother and wife loved to travel to Ireland which Gram thought was silly...So, the last time when DBIL told her they were going, she said, "Don't let the door hit you in the behind" (but she didn't say, behind).....
Hope your day is good and you enjoy being in your sewing room......

Tina, thank goodness your fur babies don't mind their bathes but OH my, your poor back...Thank goodness my Baby Girl gets a shot for her "itch"...It would take at least 4 of us trying to get her in the tub and then the 5th person to drive us all to the ER...Right now, I'm trying to figure out a way to get her to the groomers without blood shed, (mine)....But, you are one busy lady, always have a lot on your plate....

Becca, you also, always running, hither and yon....Hope you're warm and cozy...These are the days when I wish I had that fireplace and could throw on another log....

All my windows are done except the bathroom and that might be tomorrow...I had to laugh when I put up the pink frilly stuff and Kathy's Tim remarked how pretty it looked..I was just very surprised that a man would notice...But, now when he comes, it will be back to wintery green...The rest of the afternoon, I think I'm going to xstitch, snuggled under a quilt....
As for dinner, I just had some left over chicken ala king for lunch so dinner might not happen or maybe just toast.....

You all have a great day.....

Happy eating...............

Hi everyone!
I keep forgetting to tell you all this story. My nephew (my older brother; John's son) had cancer right after his 15th birthday. The dr's said he would never be able to father any kids and it made him so sad and my brother and SIL. Well he had this 1 girlfriend that was really out there so we were all pretty happy they couldn't have kids, she made his life miserable. Well that ended and he met a pretty nice girl and she already had a little girl about 2 years old and the dad was out of the picture and didn't want anything to do with her, he paid child support but lived in California and never bothered to call or see her when he was here. Anyway my nephew just fell in love with her and she started calling him Daddy and everything, he treats her just as if she's his. Well him and his fiance really hoped they could have a baby together but the dr's said no. They prayed and hoped and prayed and a true miracle she got pregnant, the dr's couldn't explain it but they really watched this pregnancy and did scans and tests all the time. When she was about 7 months along they were doing an ultrasound and saw something in it in the exact same spot at her heart that my nephew had his cancer. The dr's were really concerned and had them drive up to Albuquerque where my nephew had gone for his cancer treatments so the university hospital could see if there was any hope. Well my great niece has a callous on her heart in the exact same spot that her daddy had his cancer. The dr's were just amazed by it, they said this little girl is truly her daddy's little girl. They said it doesn't affect her heart, they don't know if she'll outgrow it or anything. They pretty much haven't ever seen anything like this happening before. She's the carbon copy of my nephew only with long hair, she was born on Jazmyne's birthday 7 years ago and is perfectly healthy. I don't think I've ever told you all that story and Becca's telling us about Haydlee made me think about it. I'm praying there's nothing serious too. 💖💖💖
Irish, I wouldn't be bathing my cats LOL your description had my rolling laughing! I did have a cat I used to have to bathe LOL I wore Frankie's welding gloves! Oh my gosh, it's a good thing our closest neighbor is 1/4 mile away because if anyone would've heard that cat they would've called the cops on me! We about died laughing because she would do this very deep deep and very loud loud meow that seriously sounded like she was saying "Mom mom mom no no no, mom mom mom no no no! "! She was a longer haired calico kitty, her name was Misty.
Oh next bath is going to be in the utility room sink/ wash tub, Frankie is going to put a shower sprayer on it for me Friday.

I'm back!
I just talked to Dad, he got his results back from his blood work, he's not anemic but he does have chemical poisoning from all the different meds he's on so they took him off of 3 and will see how he is in about a week. They did leave him on his cancer meds, they said they felt those were the most important.
