SUPPER CLUB - Sunday, July 21

Post by purrfect-lady » Sun Jul 21, 2019 7:01 am

Good morning!

We had a very nice evening yesterday. Gus and Claudia came for supper and then my son and DDIL (Mike & Emily) stopped by on their way home from the lavender festival in Sequim. So good to see them! And we simply added two more plates to the table! Mike said he has a publish date for his book of Oct 23rd and that he is finished with his second book and is editing it now. Please beware I don't put your eye out with any of the buttons popping off my mom-chest! I'm so proud of him!

I'll be getting cozy with Mr & Mrs Maytag today as well as going through the pile of quilt tops I have ready for the frame. Making sure they all have backings, are prepped properly, and bindings ready to go. Then I'll prioritize them. I'm finally back down to just one UFO - Farm Girl Vintage. I have about 6 blocks finished but all the others are cut out and bagged. But the Christmas swap will be ending in a week so my UFO count will go up again.

JANA - I was 18 and newly graduated back in 1969. (in fact, my 50th class reunion was last night but I didn't go). I think I was on the couch at home with my parents and boyfriend (known later as DH#1) watching the moon landing on TV. It was Bill's 21st birthday and he says he doesn't remember what he was doing! lol! I've made calzones using Rhode's dough. Didn't know it was a Pioneer Woman recipe. I thought it was a Purrfect Lady recipe!

VELDA - When you lose a post, first try hitting ctrl z. That restores my lost posts about 75% of the time. But just keep typing away and exploring the new forum. We're all in the same boat, learning something new. Every day I learn something new!

IRISH - I LOVED Snowballs when I was a kid. Even though I'm not much of a chocolate cake fan. Or a marshmellow fan. But somehow, they worked for me! and you're right - it's become almost a quest to find them! I know now I'll be looking for them!

BECCA - is it going to be cooler for you today? Will be nice to visit with Levi and Taylor. The twins are getting closer! I think we'll ALL be on the lookout for snowballs now!

LORI - teriyaki chicken over rice sounds tasty! My MIL had a special teriyaki recipe she made up and it was so good! But she never wrote it down. Maybe I'll hunt up a recipe and give it a try next time I'm thinking - 'what's for supper'.

Bill says thanks for all the birthday greetings! I think he had a good day - he washed the RV and did some mowing in the woods, blazing a trail to the trees we want taken down. He was covered head to toe, gloves, hat, coat, and draped in bandanas, as defense against bees, but steered as clear of them as possible. No new stings! and the old stings are slowly fading.

We have one steak and one baked potato left over from last night so I'm going to chop it all together with lots of onion and make hash - and a salad. and we still have apple pie left.

Good morning!

Well, in trade with Sarah, I am finishing up 8 placemats she started about ten years ago. I had the backing fabric in my stash, as she emptied down her stash. Her thinking, I do most of my sewing at mom's, why not have her keep it! Fine with me, I had nibbled off bits and pieces for projects here, but there was enough left for all the backs. The mats look like a slice of watermelon. I am done with half and will work on the rest this afternoon after church. The trade, she went and did some grocery shopping for me.

Ethan lost that second upper tooth, with the help of the master tooth puller - me! It is very easy, when the tooth is hanging in with barely a thread! Oh, the wailing before, but I had it out before he even knew I had! He told me, because I pulled it out, and he was so brave, he earned a ice cream cone. He got one, and got to watch a few trains too.

We love Hostess snowballs too! I find them at Walmart here. The orange colored ones are favorites! But any one will get eaten! When I was little, we had a ice cream company, named Foremost, that made ice cream snowballs - vanilla ice cream, rolled in cocoanut with a holly decoration and a candle to lite. They were a treat to me for Christmas dinner. Little things make such happy memories!

I have a well loved cook book - a cake book, that all my grands get out - pour over the pages, requesting a specific cake for their birthday. It is called, Inside Out Surprise cakes. The decoration is on the inside, the outside just looks very plain. Shows up when you slice the cake. I did a checkerboard cake and it was a huge hit. Birthday season is starting in August and goes to the first of December - a least one a month, simetimes it is three!

Dinner - something easy and cool - no heating up a oven! Probably something on the grill outside, after the sun has gone to the otherside of my house.

Mary - I have hopes of seeing my UFO stash shrink, but it grows with Sarah bringing hers here! I will always be busy!

Well, need to see what I wear to church,

Enjoy,
Jana

Good afternoon from a very sunny, very warm, SW. Pa...But, no complaining here.....Now, if we get too much rain, that's when I'll complain....

Mary, You might have just talked me into going through my bin of UFOs, maybe...But, I do have an old, old quilt that I had made for Kevin (bulldogs and bikes) that his youngest son had taken possession of and is in sad shape but he said, he can't sleep if he doesn't have it, lol...(You know, sad eyes and all)...So, I guess that's 1st on the list but know there's lots more to follow....Glad Bill had a good birthday and no more stings....AND, you have every right to be so proud...What an accomplishment! You do have other writers in your family, don't you? Apple pie left???I'd have started with that 1st....

Jana, remember those tooth pulling days so well..Always a big dramatic event! But, bigger yet was trying to be tooth fairy and slide the big time quarter under the pillow...(Now remember, my kids are old and a quarter was lots, lol)...It sounds like Hostess snowballs are all over the country, which is a good thing..We did have some "knock offs" at our Walmart and although they were good and I didn't refuse, not as good as the real ones.....

Becca, I have a feeling it's warm in your neck of the woods...Just the other day, talking to a gal, my age, she said, what did we do way back when we were growing up with no AC? All I remember is how bad the hay scratched and made me itch each time we had to do the hay...But, we all survived, mostly in bare feet, jumping in a pond or just spraying with a garden hose.....Also, thinking before you know it, it will be time for the new twins...I know you're busy with baby quilts, right?

Today is will be a very lazy day, one with lots of reading and cross stitching...Cindy had started a baby sampler before she passed and I'm hoping to get it finished and ready for the name and date when the new baby gets here...Cindy was a fantastic cross stitcher, her backs were as perfect as the front but mine will never compare...It's just hard working on it and knowing she's not here, but also knowing this baby will always have a special guardian angel watching over her is good.....

Not sure what my dinner might be...The taste buds are awake yet and nothing comes to mind...But, there's always cheese and crackers or cereal......

You all have a great day......

Happy eating................

Good afternoon! I’m still around and crazy busy. So many trips back and forth for Mom care. When I came home Wednesday, apparently I was very lucky. When I went out to go back Friday, my truck made a terrible noise. I thought I had a stick caught between the fender and the tire. I got out and checked… my tire was blown—the tread was flying off, and wires were sprouted everywhere. But, it still held air. So, I took DH’s car to town. While I was gone, my sweet DH put my spare on my truck and aired it up. Yesterday morning when I went out to go to town yet again, the spare was flat! I have new tires arriving Wednesday!

I’m still trying to get caught up here at home from being gone most of three weeks. So much to do and put away. I’m hoping to find my sewing room sometime in the future. I’m getting SEW depressed!

You are making me hungry for snowballs! I haven’t had them in forever! They were such fun to eat. Jana—I remember the Foremost “Snowballs”. My DD’s father worked for Foremost.

Dinner tonight—something with zoodles! My neighbor gave me a bunch of zucchini—tis the season! I also have a bunch of cucumbers but not enough for pickles. I’ll probably slice them and put them in a quick pickle to eat with onions. I might have to add some peppers, too.

We are so hot here, but should get some relief Monday or Tuesday. I’m so ready! Hope the cool stays in the forecast and doesn’t evaporate. My friend took her grandson back to Arizona. She said the temperature said it was hotter than back here, but it felt cooler. There is definitely truth in the “dry heat” saying. We have wet, dripping heat here!

Mary—are you and Mr. Bill going to be the lumberjacks for this job? Good luck! I thought of you when I was picking blackberries and a bumble bee was checking me out very closely!

Time to get back to being busy here!

Bon appétit!

Maryz Glad The Party went well. And Im Happy for Your DS & His Book & you Too.I hope to be able to read it one day.Nothing wrong with being proud of our children no matter their age.

Chickie There you are & with tire woes too.Sorry about that.Do hope you get some down time soon.Oh we all grew up without AC& thought nothing of it.Like Irish Said we went barefoot & jumped in the creek or Waterhouse to cool off.Seems to me it wasn’t as hot either.

Jana Now I must try those snow balls.Sure CA would eat them.Me not so much.Good that you & Sarah can be close & help each other out.My Denise only lived close to me for 11/2 yr.And I was working full time then.

Irish Yes Im waiting on my backing & batting for little boys quilt.Girls is finished. And their other things are done.Just have to buy the diapers.Figure they will need a lot.Do remember washing all of mine,A different time then.
