SUPPER CLUB - Thursday, March 21
Good morning!
We were 80 degrees again yesterday. It felt so good! I hung two more loads of wash on the lines. I love hanging clothes. Today we are sliding down into more normal temps - mid 60's.
We kept smelling a hot electrical smell in the downstairs. After an hour of chasing it (got the furnace filter changed in the process) we found our 23 yr old hot water heater is going out. So we are off to Home Depot this morning - and maybe up the road another 10 miles to Lowes, to see what we can see.
IRISH - what dates will you be in Reno? For what it's worth my phone weather app says it will be in the 50's (with lows in 30's) through the end of this month. And only a few days show any rain. Sorry - no 80's seem imminent. What a snake story! shudder!! I wonder what kind of snake it was. do you have 'bad' snakes in your area?
JANA - your quilt is going to be a masterpiece when it's finished! Do you think you'll enter it into any shows or contests or fairs? Did I tell you it was my brother's birthday yesterday, too? He was 84. We called him but he couldn't talk though as he was on the road in his big truck and just entering a 'dead zone'. Lots of those in AK.
LORI - grilled cheese with tomato soup is one of our favorite meals! And we like waffles, too, though I haven't had a waffle iron in 40 years. Tell me again where you live . . . .;o)
BECCA - your banquet room will hold 80 people? Just how big is Franklin, anyway!? You're going to need more party-goers! You can call Rent-a-Guest. That's where Bill told a co-worker who attended our wedding reception and asked Bill if he really knew all the people there.
Supper tonite is going to be leftover chicken noodle casserole. We really liked it first time around.

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Thursday, March 21
Good morning! Hopefully I can drop you a few lines before DH comes from coffee. I’m off to town after brunch to give my sister a break and then help with Mom’s bath. I’ll be in there tomorrow and Saturday as well.
My truck is in the shop. It’s been there since Sunday afternoon when DH and DS1 towed it down there. Sigh! I miss Millie! It’s probably either the fuel pump or the distributor. Neither are life threatening for my little red baby. She will be 20 years old this fall!
Been thinking of everyone, trying to read the threads and one day I “posted” but it didn’t make it on, so it’s in cyberspace somewhere.
Mary—sorry about your water heater! Let your fingers do the walking and compare first, then drive. You are warmer than we are here! Yesterday was in mid-high 50s, but day before was 67!
Jana—we have birds, too, but mine are year around as I feed all the time. This morning we had a pair of Canada geese swimming around the pond. It would be neat if they would stay and have little ones.
Irish—crazy snake story! Snakes don’t bother me, unless they are copperheads. I don’t like to be surprised. Black snakes are good in the garden, but they are bad in the henhouse! I thought of you when I acquired a bunch of fabrics this week—mainly greens. I need to start making Irish chain quilts!
Lori—We made waffles last week when DGD was here. You can use waffle irons for sandwiches with interesting texture. They are also fun for leftover turkey dressing after the big dinner. Have fun!
Becca—know your party will be a huge success and that party room will be bursting at the seams!
Jana—I’ve made those sewing disasters as well. I hate ripping out and making over. It’s easier to start from scratch, but I am too cheap so rip it is.
I made mention of the fabric acquisition. One of DH’s coffee guys said his daughter had a bunch of totes of fabrics she wanted to sell and would I be interested. We went to go look Monday evening. There were six or eight totes full of thread, fabrics and miscellaneous. I ended up with a big bolt of JoAnn’s batting, a tote of flannel in delightful baby prints, many blender fabrics mainly in greens, some browns, some reds, a little blues. I got a box of pins, scissors, grommet/rivet tools, a new Supreme Slider, heat ‘n bond lite, a bunch of puppet making materials (to be donated to a church ministry if I can find one), a few batiks, and two jelly rolls. All of the quilting fabric is quilt shop quality—a very pleasant surprise! When my neighbor and I walked, I was telling her, and we figured out the stash was her friend’s who had passed from cancer. The daughter of the coffee guy had apparently bought it all as a lot at an auction. I’m pleased with my haul, and the price was quite reasonable. DH is always complaining about my fabric acquisitions, but HE is the one who pushed me to check this out! Too funny! I’m still washing and sorting. Such fun!
Dinner tonight… I have some soup and some fajita meat as leftovers. We can clean that up and have something else tomorrow night. I’ll be gone most of the day tomorrow, so it may be take out/carry in something.
Bon appétit!

Maryz, Glad you found the electrical burning source. Lucky you to have great weather again.
Well as usual, my plan for dinner didn't work out. DH had an upset tummy and didn't want to eat, so I had leftover enchilada and rice.
We might have teriyaki chicken and rice tonight, but you know I have trouble sticking to a menu planned so far in advance. lol My taste
buds change in liking from morning to night.
Already been sewing this morning. I need to finish up this tumble quilt top. It's taking over the dining room and I'm over it.
Have a great day. Lori

Good morning!
Mary - good water heater hunting! Getting that many years out of ine is remarkable. Ours has been acting up and we are looking at replacing it with a tankless water heater.
It is cloudy and rainy here. My tulips and daffodils are peeking up. Yesterday Sarah, Michael and Ethan cleaned up trees and took out a untameable rose bush. It was a carpet rose bush, supposed to stay small and close to the ground. Nope, this one. It was about 6x6, so out it came. Which is OK, because we are repkacing the driveway, crumbling concrete from the salt and widening it. The builder put the house in a slightly different location on the lot and so the driveway is off center to the garage, which makes backing out with cars in the driveway a bit tricky. We also want it wider. The cement is falling apart, heaving, because, even though we paid extra for the wider driveway and to have re-bar in the concrete, they didn't do it! We had a warranty on the house, but concrete work was exculded! So 7 years later, we will have it done right.
Then last night, we got home from Costco, Michael was bringing in things from my Highlander, got to the top of the stairs, pushed the garage door close button and the hatch, the big door on the back of my Highlander was still up and open! The door came down and it was a ugly noise, but everything seems to ge OK. We will look and see in the light of day, if he did damage. Hopefully no damage to my Highlander, but, I am bad, hoping for damage to the garage door - I want a pretty, new, fancy one. See, I am spoiled! LOL!
The phone company spent two more days out here working on my phone line and fixed the annoying humm that was in the line. Tonight is a city council meeting about the paving and redoing on the street the contractors keep tearing up. Michael and Sarah are going. Can you say, fireworks in Spring? LOL!
Dinner - still need to cook my corned beef, so that will be after the fireworks.
Enjoy,
Jana

Oh, forgot a bird story from yesterday. A huge noise , sounded like some metal banging came from the vincinity of my fireplace. I heard it, asked Michael if he heard it, no. Then it happened several more times and he finally did hear it. So on the hunt he went. Went outside and on the top of my roof, was a big bird, hitting with his beak the metal vent cap to the fireplace. The bird kept at it until we turned on the fireplace and sent heated gases up there, warming up the flue cap. We will see if he comes back. Sounded just like a woodpecker, but the bird was about the size of a chicken!

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Thursday, March 21
Good afternoon from a dreary, chilly, SW. Pa...Not sure what happened to spring.....
Mary, thank goodness you found what was making that smell...I would think, 23 years is pretty good for a water heater...Not too long ago, I had no hot water so of course, I was ready to shop but instead, called neighbor, Ted..With him, you never buy new if there is a possibility of fixing...AND he fixed..Then when Kathy was here, I had rusty water but just in the tub...Not sure why but it's all better now...But, one of these days, I will be shopping....
My sister and I are leaving for Reno on the 31st and coming back on Apr. 9th...BUT, knowing Kathy and Tim, we will be traveling up and down the coast...She has made reservation at the Winchester House and the Hearst Mansion, just to name a couple..She did mention Big Sur, maybe running into Clint Eastwood and a special place where they like to go for (cover your ears), crab legs....Kathy has always been one who, when on a trip, you saw as much as you could and that meant, rest when you get back home...And also knowing Kathy, there will be visits at wineries.....
I'm not sure what kind of snake it was but it was darn big and I know, black snakes are good in the garden (if they stay there)...To me, anything that is 2 inches long and wiggles, is a bad snake...
Becca, almost here! I'm getting so excited for you....I did have to laugh about Mary's "Rent a Guest"...When Terry was at WVU studying music, he needed a tuxedo for the performances he had to do...We had gone to the tux shop and he bought 2 and said, he could also advertise to be a "rent a date" for the proms...Enjoy every, every minute.....
Chickie, good to see you and happy to hear about your stash...Not too often do you come across treasure such as that...A friend of my sisters gave her 3 boxes of fabric for me but would you believe, it's mostly all non cotton and nothing that I can use...Of course you need to get busy on those Irish chains (in your spare time), lol....
Well, I have a big project going on...I had decided I wanted to change the carpet in the back bedroom/sewing room..Terry had put in wood in his house in N.C. and I thought OK...Well, last night when he stopped, we decided to take a look under the carpet and there's hardwood...I just need to really get it cleaned up...The whole upstairs is hardwood but downstairs, when Jim's Dad built the house, the hardwood was just put around the outside of the rooms and plywood in the middle..I guess it was common, to put a carpet in the middle of the room and then paint the floor up to the edge of the carpet..In our big house, the old owner had changed her carpets often and each time, sure enough, there was a different color up to the edge...But, I'm so excited about my new flooring, might just keep going and do the big bedroom, too...I'm also going to paint when I get back...Maybe the little bit of sun we've been having has helped me kick the gloom.....
For my dinner, I have 4 cheese tortellini and sauce left over from last night....
You all have a great day...........
Happy eating............
