SUPPER CLUB - Sunday, St. Patrick's Day
Good morning and 'tis a happy St. Paddy's Day I'll be wishin' ya all!
We are having a run of spectacular weather here. usually March 17 is cold, wet, and miserable here. But not this year!! We'll be 65*, going to 70* by Tuesday! Yesterday I did a bit of work on my tea party swap blocks, decided to make my Alaskan sister-in-law a special quilt and take it to her this summer, and then got three hours out in the yard, mostly raking fall leaves. I'm making good yard progress - maybe 5 or 6 more hours left (which I will break into 2 days) and I'll have gone through the entire acre that we keep up. Soon, it will be time for Someone to mow. Though that Someone always has to be prodded. For the last hour we were outside yesterday Vicki was out on her back porch banging on a copper bowl, aiming her vibes in our direction. I have it on good authority that that action was putting a hex on us. After about 45 minutes a friend advised me to bang on a metal pot with a wooden spoon. And it worked! She went inside and never came back out! I think my pot (and resulting hex) was bigger than hers!
The quilt I decided to make for my sis in law, Marge, is a pattern by Trish Stuart called Portraits of Alaska and is all detailed applique of various animals, flowers, Mt. Denali, and an Eskimo native. I have 8-1/2 weeks to finish it. So I need to get busy! It's an ambitious project, but I do love a challenge.
BECCA - so you were a cheerleader in high school! Good for you! We have camped in the Blue Ridge before and LOVED IT! Wish we'd stayed longer. But I hope we have time to soak it all in next trip. Hoping Levi gets the answer he is hoping for with his application. I know many places, law enforcement especially, give preferential treatment to veterans.
IRISH - it's your special day today! And I know you're thinking of your Jim. I doubt I'll ever NOT think of him on any St. Pat's day in the future! I'm going to eat a green Peep today in remembrance of him! ;o) You are your sis are lucky to have each other to bolster the other up in the low times. and as for the kitties, I tell you what - I'll tell Autumn that "Clancy II" and "Kelly II" are yours, in the way that we can 'own' a penguin, or a snow leopard, or a star. Aut is a crazy cat lady just like her mama and her aunt. She will understand that.
TINA - I hope I can remember what you've said about green chile burritoes. I think I have a can of green chile sauce in the pantry, even! And those doughnut muffins looked so good!! I think I'm gaining weight just thinking about them!
JANA - if ANYONE, private or builder or utility, hits underground wires without first calling 511, the LOCATE number, it's a big fine. I would guess it is there, too. So the builders must have a big slush fund for such 'incidental' expenses. I hope Michael can get some action from city council.
LORI - 80*! Hard to imagine after the February we just had. Though we'll be 70+ this coming week. For a couple days - then back to cool and wet by next weekend. Just in time for my birthday. Sigh. Scottie was attacked by two big dogs about 3 years ago in Texas. He's been kind of snarly ever since when he sees big dogs, letting them know he's no one to mess with. But after he gets to know other dogs he's OK. His best friend now is a white german shepherd.
Tonite's supper is going to be on the grill! Chicken and sweet potato halves. I'll toss a salad. Depending on how late we eat, we might even still be warm enough to eat out on the deck tonite! One of today's chores will be to get out the cushions for the deck furniture.
Where and what will you be eating tonite?

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Sunday, St. Patrick's Day
Good morning!
Mary - yes it is a fine here too, but all that cost is passed on to the buyers, in the price of the homes! Blue Stakes is the company that does the marking with a notification that the wires could be up to three feet from the marked line - on either side! Also that company will mark on piles of dirt, so the line is easily covered up! We called the marking company when we planted a tree in the frint yard last spring. They missed the line terribly, but Michael knew where it was and Stu dug carefully, so we missed the line. I do love that all our utilities are underground, but there is a huge drawback when builders work around exsisting lines.
Ethan is here and will go home after church. He will go and so will the old dining set. My new one will be here tomorrow afternoon.
Dinner is - drum roll please, corned beef , coleslaw, potatoes and cheating cheesecake for afters. My cheating cheesecake is any flavor instant pudding, mixed with cream cheese and a bit of milk. I will put it in a graham cracker pie shell. We use this as filling in our cakes too. Today's will be lemon. One of my favorites is chocolate. Here is the recipe - one box, 4 serving size, 2 packages cream cheese, room temp, 1 1/2 cups milk. Beat the cream cheese, then add, very slowly the milk, scraping down the sides, so you have no lumps, then add the pudding mix, beat until thickened, pour in pie shell. Chill and serve. I am good for easy!
Well, my house guest wants food,
Enjoy,
Jana

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Sunday, St. Patrick's Day
Happy St Patrick's day to you all!
Mary, you can make your own green chile enchilada sauce.
4 green chillies chopped
1/2 onion
Tablespoon or less of minced garlic
Margarine
8-10 tablespoons margarine
6-8 tablespoons flour
About 28 oz of chicken broth
Heat margarine, add green chile, garlic and onion, saute. After onions are tender, set them aside in a bowl. Using your same pan melt the 8-10 tablespoons of margarine add the flour and cook a little too get the flour taste out then slowly whisk in the chicken broth until smooth, add back your green chile garlic and onions and simmer about 5 minutes. You can add 1/2 sour cream to make it smooth if you like.

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Sunday, St. Patrick's Day
Happy St. Paddy's Day everyone....This is indeed a very special day in this household...AND, I know, Jim is right here with me but I also know, he's in heaven celebrating with all his Irish friends....
Mary, I had to laugh at you and Vicki both out there banging away on pots...But, great idea, if it worked...Of course today, you had the Irish spirits on your side....I'm sure "my" Clancy and Kelly will be well taken care of if Autumn is anything like her Mom.....
Becca, your CA sounds so much like Jim...Jim liked just about anything I put on the table but would often say, don't go to all that trouble, just make something easy...One of the things I really miss is making him his mashed potatoes and gravy....
Not going to be able to stick around, I'm ready to run....I'm hoping to find my yarn, then pick up a few groceries, deliver all these Shamrock cookies to the home and then dinner at my sisters...She's making ham and scalloped potatoes, need I say more.....I did save a bunch of cookies for her...So, I'm off, should be a fun day....
You all have a great St. Paddy's Day.....If you're having a drink, make it green.....
Happy eating.................
