Good morning,

How was your New Years Day? We stayed home in our trailer all day. It was a cold and windy day. We didn't even walk the campground loop. Bill did some outside chores, starting to make ready to leave. I sewed on my VC. Only 2 blocks left and one of them, a gingerbread man, or "Mr. Cookie" as the pattern calls him, calls for white rick rack, which I don't have. So I need to hit the lqs or Hobby Lobby before I can finish that one.

We are 34* and pouring rain this morning and going to pour all day long and get up to only 39*. YUCK! At least we aren't 2* and snowy! Our friends were going to leave today but have delayed two days because of weather. So they'll leave Friday instead and we leave the next Friday. So we're having one more card party this afternoon, this time in our trailer.

JANA - I can't believe the neighborhood listened to that alarm for 1-1/2 hours but the owner couldn't hear it. That is HARD of hearing! Hope your weather lets up soon. I bet Aaron is garnering some work stories to tell. It was simply foggy here yesterday morning and there was a 32 car pile-up on the freeway in SE Austin, including a few semi's. 10 people went to the hospital. What a mess to sort out!

BECCA - I hope your hubby is able to get rest and back to his former level of health and energy.

CHICKIE - there are so many dietary choices now. I do have to laugh though, when items like fresh fruit is advertised as "gluten free'. So did you get into your sewing room to clean yesterday?

IRISH - You are slowly making your list of do-not-eats through trial and error. Did the kraut go down OK? I'm glad you saw your neighbors yesterday. Old traditions can be painful and comforting at the same time.

TINA - Nice to have some quiet time in your house, I bet! What are Frankie's hours now? Did you get your baby quilt started?

Last night's supper morphed, as often happens. But at least it was still soup. We had split pea instead of potato since I like to add carrots, celery, and onion to my pea soup and we had those in the fridge. Eat the fresh stuff first. There's just enough left for tonite, too.

Have you got an idea of your supper yet?

Hi Mary. Brrrrr! You are really into the winter stuff today. I am beginning to recover now from my cold. Yes, I lead exercise, and another person heads up yoga. Haven't eaten much the last two days with both of us being sick. Don't even want to think about cooking. Might just open soup again.
You all stay cozy and warm.
Vel

Good morning! We are cold. The pond has ice on it as well as the unheated bird water. I have a heated one they love! I’m also going through the suet and sunflower seeds like crazy! Today is senior discount at the feed store, so we may have to make a run for bird seed. I feed the birds as soon as I wake up. There are dozens of cardinals and small birds lined up waiting for breakfast. There are some brave ones that don’t wait for me to get inside before they are at the feeder. They have consumed it all by the time I’m finished with yoga, and I’m out there feeding again.

Vel—so sorry you are sick in your house! It’s going around here. DD had it bad and recovered just in time for her hubby to come down with it. First DS3’s girlfriend had it, got over it barely, and DS3 came down with it. He said it made him have a death wish. That’s exactly what my DD said, too! If you got it, I sincerely feel bad for you!!! Hang in there; it does pass after several miserable days.

Mary—I did yoga yesterday but didn’t get out and walk. I am ashamed to say I didn’t get to my sewing room. I started a book a few days ago. That’s always a big mistake! “The Girl in Cabin Ten” It’s a psychological thriller, and it’s got a grip on me! DDIL2 gave it to me. Her book club had read it. I’m about half-way through it, and I can’t wait to get to it again. The sewing room may have to wait awhile. Do quilt shops carry rick-rack? Of course, our little one doesn’t, but larger ones may. It’s hard to find around here. I have some of Mom’s leftovers and use them when I need it. Card party sounds like a good indoor activity as well as sewing and reading. I can’t believe you only have two more VC blocks!

I got up early and put a second pair of fleece jammies on over my first pair along with coat and hat and went to Choc’s for her morning walk and feeding. I’ll go again at noon—may walk if the wind chill isn’t too terrible—then her dad will be home sometime this afternoon. We will be cloudy, 30 degrees and 8 mph winds. It may be a bundled up walk. At least if I fall, I’ll be well cushioned!

I too laugh at all the “gluten free” labels on things, especially fresh, one-ingredient, self-contained things. Do stores/manufacturers/FDA think consumers are really stupid?

Dinner tonight—I have to cook. The only thing I have on hand is leftover cooked rice. Soup really sounds good—maybe chicken and rice? I’ll have to think on it… Meanwhile… brunch to think about…

Bon appétit!

P.S. Becca--you jumped in here while I was thinking about writing... Hope you get good results from your DH's blood work. I hear you on the "getting rid of stuff". I need to do some purging here as well. Hope your day goes well!

Good morning!

Aaron and Kate both worked yesterday. Kate was assigned to a station near a freeway Aaron patrols. They were going to meet at the station for lunch, but before that could happen, Kate was called out to a accident on the freeway. So was Aaron, to the same accident, to set up protection for the fire crews. As Aaron, rolled up, at the same time as Kate, she told her captain, here comes her husband! Kate, right now, is assigned to different stations in the valley to cover days off and vacations of other EMT's.

Well Christmas is away and I have a huge box of lights that are still working great, but are not what we use, so will take them and some other things to DI for donation, hopefully today. The house looks bare!

Heading down to the Batt Cave to sew. My new machine, Ruby, needs her yearly service, I am late with that. But, there is always a big but, the shop where I bought her is closing forever, starting today! I just got notice of that. So no way will I take my machine in there for service, just in case they close the doors and I can't get it back. So now to find another Pfaff dealer - there is only one listed for the entire valley, up in Salt Lake, uggh!

Humm, new year, must cook, hummm.... a chicken something! I will figure it out later.

Enjoy!
Jana

Good afternoon from another dreary, chilly day in SW. Pa. BUT, it's no where near the temps that Mary and Jana are having...I honestly think I'd be on the 1st plane headed for warmer climes...And speaking of warmer, talked to my "ex" friends in Florida and it's in the high 80s with lots of sun.....

Mary, isn't it funny, when you think of rick rack and then wonder where you can get it...I'm sure JoAnn's would have it and maybe Walmart....None in my drawers or I'd send it to you....

Chickie, I now have a vision of extra fat birds lined up waiting for you in the mornings...I also feed the birds but don't have nearly as many as you do...But, a few weeks before I went away, I started cutting down, which I hated doing but didn't want them to get too dependent on me and me be away...These poor things are going to be so mixed up because I'll be gone again, the end of the month...Hopefully, the neighbors will take up the slack.....
Also have this vision of you, bundled up with 2 pairs of jeans and falling down....Remember that little fellow in that movie about the Red Ryder BB Gun????
The book you're reading sounds like a good one, I might have to check into it....I just reserved 3 books from our Library and need to pick them up tomorrow....

Becca. I'm with you in the "throw away" department...More and more, I keep thinking get rid of this stuff, make it easy on whoever takes over this house, some day...When I was with my friend in Florida, we talked a lot about that and she's done a great job...She's funny, if someone says, they like something, it's their's...Jim used to be that way with his Irish sweat shirts and Kathy always felt guilty if Jim would just take off his shirt and give it to her....Nothing like giving you the shirt right off his back, lol....Hope it warms up for your appointments tomorrow.....

Jana, love to read about your busy family and also imagine, you are so proud of all of them....Ya done good! I always had that "down" feeling when all the stuff was put away...You work so hard to get things right and then in a few days, it's over....Oh well, I had 3 things to put away and forgot my little ceramic tree...I should just put all red lights on it and leave it up for Valentines Day.....

Not much happening today...Did finish my mending or all that I felt like doing..I have set a goal to do at least 1 productive thing a day and I guess that might have been it, lol....And I'm happy to report, the pork and sauerkraut went down and didn't cause too much of a stir...Just a small container left and Nick is taking that home with him...I have noticed, along with my "gluten free" chips, I have also been eating a lot of "gluten free" fruits, lol....And right Chickie, what do these people think when they label things......

I might get out my embroidery and of course have another cup of hot tea...As for my dinner, I might just take it easy and have a poached egg and toast....I should mix up a batch of cinnamon rolls but then again, might wait until tomorrow......

You all have a great day....Those who aren't feeling up to par, lots of rest and liquids......Feel better soon.....

Happy eating.............

Hi everyone! :)
Mary, sadly I didn't start on the baby quilt, I had a pain in my neck and shoulder that got worse as the day went on and spent most of the day with a heating pad. It still hurt till just before I went for my leg treatment today.
Chickie, we're so cold but not as bad as you! Our high today is 32*, it's been snowing all day but it's not accumulating...it's a very dry snow.
I went out to feed my chickens and let them out around 10 and I don't think I was out there 5 minutes and my fingers about got frost bitten! I couldn't feel them by the time I got back inside. I stood in front of the pellet stove to thaw out for awhile.
We're going to have hash made out of the leftover roast tonight.
Tina

Jumping back in here to report that I actually feel like cooking a little. Doing something easy and simple. Turkey burgers (DH will have on a bun), me just a little A1. Package mashed potatoes (4 cheese), buttered green beans. Maybe even salad??
This means I am getting over this crud.
Oh Happy Day!
