SUPPER CLUB - New Year's Day!

Post by purrfect-lady » Tue Jan 01, 2019 1:36 am

Happy New Year!!

I hope everyone had a super NYE and didn't get too crazy! I haven't had any calls for bail, so I'm assuming all is good! We had a delicious dinner out and I had a steak - rare for me. Not cooked rare (make mine well done, please!), but uncommon for me to order a steak. One of the Linda's put us on FB if you want to see our supper. lol! Then we took champagne to the card party next door. Lots of fun! But we were back in our own trailer by 10:15 and in bed by 10:30. A stellar NYE! Today we have no plans. Just a laid back day. I do believe I'll sew! lol! But then you knew that, didn't you. I think I have 6 blocks left in VC. I might stop at the LQS tomorrow to see if they have any fabric that appeals for the sashing. If not, then I'll pack it all up and take the blocks home. I am using 7" long strips as jump scraps. And sewing them into 6-1/2" blocks as I work on VC. I have accumulated 98 of those now, too, and still have a grocery bag full of strips. As I sew other projects, that pile of blocks just keeps growing! I'll have to do something with them one day, too. I only have one more week of sewing left.

IRISH - Sorry the lasagna didn't work out for you. Was it the tomatoes? Would white lasagna go down better? Alfredo sauce & chicken. Or was it the wheat in the noodles? Pasta comes in gluten free, brown rice, and other forms now . . . And you bet Kathy's going to need some expert help with little Lena! I was in Joann's few days ago and overheard one woman lamenting to another that Notre Dame 'let them down'. I'm guessing they let you down, too. Sorry. Washington is playing Ohio State today in the Rose bowl. I don't know if we'll get that game. Our stations are very limited. Two of my kids graduated from U of WA.

BECCA - sorry CA is starting his new year in bed/on couch. But, in the plus column, if Denise has been there then you are probably stocked with food for a while! You are really on a purging binge. I usually am, too, when I am at home. It's just that time of year!

JANA - so how much snow do you have? I bet it's pretty! If the roads are clear then and you can get out of your driveway, then yay for you! I love snow! And my DBIL told me the Dallas/Seahawk game was going to be on ESPN, which we don't get. But after your post yesterday I double checked and it's going to be on FOX! And we get that! Thanks for making me look! Go Hawks!!

CHICKIE - so, did you stay or did you go? To the party, I mean. Don't you hate it when the men mess with our schedules? Bill goes to the gym three mornings a week and I love it. He's gone for at least two hours and my time is my own for a little while. Though I'm often using those hours for my own morning walk rather than sewing.

Today I'm going to put potato soup in the crockpot. I was going to do it a few days ago, but realized I don't have a pan to make soup in! My biggest saucepan is too small and the big pot I do carry in the trailer is just too huge. I'm wondering now why I carry it . . . So I decided to do it today in the crockpot instead. It's juuust riiight.

What's happening on your plate tonite?

Good burrr cold mornihg!

It is 2 degrees! A very noisy alarm outside woke us up at 6 am and is still at it, an hour or more later. Michael is up, dressed and chasing it down. Sounds like the building alarm over at the church, just over two fences from me. As soon as he pinpoints it, we will call the local police to come out. The Bishop too. Last week, a fire alarm light on the church's alarm panel was giving off a false reading and they supposedly fixed it, I think not!

I did punt and changed the webinar quilt. It is a log cabin, laid in the barn raising pattern. I only needed 8 more blocks to have it big enough for my bed. 2 of the pieces of fabric, were measuring like I had enough, but I doubled checked, several times to make sure. Found all my scraps as well, and between both of that, I had enough by one strip left! It was 1 3/4 wide! Sewed those blocks together last night and I am ready to sew the top together today.

Alarm solved - it was a neighbor's car, over on the next street. Michael and another neighbor found it and knocked on the home's door. The owner didn't hear it for more than 90 minutes. It is off now.

Mary - yea, you found the game! I will root for your Seachickens, snickering, as I dislike Dallas more! But I am being more partial to the Chiefs to win it all this year. Soup sounds great, I have turkey broth, so will make noodles to go in it.

Michael just told me that we have more than a foot on most of the ground and in many spots deeper than that. The crust is frozen hard and you don't sink in. Thank you, but I will just stay on the sidewalk, or better than that, in the warm house!

Happy New Year!

Enjoy,
Jana

Happy New Year everyone! I stayed up by myself, first time ever that I was by myself seeing in the New Year. Frankie had to work today so he was in bed by 10. They changed his hours and he has to go in an hour earlier, I feel bad for him. Kevin was up at midnight and he text me a Happy New Year and I did back to him, it made me go to sleep with a smile on my face :)
Jana, brrrrrr you're cold there! I'm glad you're getting snow, we get our aquifers filled by your runoff too.
Mary, I bet those blocks are beautiful! I'd love to see them if possible.
Chickie, I totally understand the guys changing our plans.
Becca, sounds like you all had enough goodies to throw a block party for New Year's! Sorry your DH isn't feeling his best.
I'm going to be by myself today, I was some yesterday. Holly invited me over for lunch and when I came back home I had to take care of our monthly bills for January and balance my checkbook....and I realized how quiet it was in the house so I turned Pandora on low for background noise.
I'm going to work more on my sewing room and might even put together a baby quilt I have for a gift for my massage girl, she's due in 5 weeks.
I'm going to put a roast in the crock pot for supper, Dad will be here.
You all stay warm and comfy cozy and have a safe and Happy New Year!
Tina

Good morning, and Happy New Year! Wow, 2019! When I was younger, 2000 seemed like an impossible achievement—another century! Crazy! Now, here we are looking at almost 20 years into a new century. It’s still hard to believe!

We are 22 with a wind chill of 11 right now. It’s not getting much warmer today. On the good side (I think), snow and ice has been taken out of the forecast. Of course, that means nothing. We have had 12” of “partly cloudy” fall overnight before! So… wait and see.

We went to DS1’s last evening for their annual NYE party. It was a lot of fun, but we left around 10:30. I made guacamole and took a bag of chips. There were snackies and a couple of pots of chili. No one starved! And… there were jell-o shots. I like jell-o! LOL! We more or less stayed up till midnight, although I was “watching” TV through my eyelids.

I MUST get into my sewing room and clean and rearrange and organize and corral scraps… sigh! What a mess it is!!!

We had over 2” of rain the last few days, and the pond is full!—running in one corner and out the spillway on the other corner. The reservoir next door will be filled as well.

Jana—that’s insanely cold! I vote for staying inside!!! Glad you had enough to finish your quilt and didn’t come up one strip or 2” short! Definitely looking forward to seeing your layout! My late DH used to set the alarm off on the truck when he sat down with his keys in his pocket. It was ALL the time! So annoying!

Tina—have fun with the baby quilt! Sounds like you had a nice, quiet evening. Sometimes that’s a very good thing. Sorry Frankie had to work today!

Mary—by now, you’ve read we went. LOL! I can never depend on the time DH arrives home from coffee—any time between 9:30 and noon! He will get sidetracked and go somewhere on the way home. He’s funny, and I love him. Sometimes I just wish he checked in, but he doesn’t; so, no need for me to be upset. It’s an opportunity to spent time with you, my friends! You are always amazing with your jump scraps! SEW creative!

Irish—if as Mary suggested, you have gluten intolerance which can come on at any time, I made all my Christmas dinner gluten free with the lasagna noodles and the spaghetti. Everyone loved it, and you really can’t tell the difference—especially in the lasagna. I bought the tortellini, and they were not GF, but DGD had plenty of GF to choose from.

I think I just heard a car door… Dinner tonight… the leftovers we didn’t have last evening. We will not starve!

Bon appétit!
Happiest of New Years!

Happy New Year.Watching the Rose Parade.I love Seeing the floats.
I was in bed by 10 & DH was at 6:30 so we were real party poopers.lol

Maryz Know That quilt will be another beauty.Glad the strips worked out right. Thanks for asking about DH.At least today he’s up.The trip at Thanksgiving & the generator being installed & company was just too much all together & his pain got worse too.Just needs to recuperate.Yes Denise brought lots of food to us .9 chicken pies & apple pie for the freezer.Yummy.Plus all the other things she brought. She goes way overbroad.

Irish Our Family alleats so different now it’s hard for me to remember all their needs or wants.Do hope you find out what is the culprit. My DDIL is gluten intolerant. She finally figured it out & having her gall bladder out helped her too.
Not suggesting you have yours out.Hers was diseased.
We are overrun with goodies & everyone brings more.

Chickie You were a night owl.Lol It’s great having time for yourself.Stay warm & cozy.

Jana Thats too cold for me.Stay inside by the fire.Cannot believe someone couldn’t hear their alarm it’s so loud.

Tina Glad you had some quiet time.Helps us to have a break.Glad DS gave you a smile.

We are having beans n Franks. Not a traditional meal for New Years. Will Do my soup tomorrow.Have a great day. Becca

Good late afternoon from a very dreary, 1st day of the new year.....Well, I did stay up, well past midnight...Did go to the neighbors for coffee and cookies and back home by 9:00...Watched my Penguins win and then got my book and the "girls" and I went to bed BUT, I read until about 3:00...Just not moving too quickly today but that's OK....

Mary, So glad you're able to watch the SeaHawks and I'll be rooting for U. of WA...I guess there are ND fans that feel that way and of course I was sad but so happy for the rest of the season..They'll always be #1 to Jim and I....And, I haven't pin pointed down the real problem but guess it's a combination of sorts...I am trying to watch the gluten stuff and do have to watch the Alfredo sauce or anything with a creamy base, which I love...Dan's DGF, Casey has a severe gluten allergy, even to the extent that she needs separate plates and nothing with gluten can touch her food...It's really hard but she really does well in watching what and where she eats.....
Of course the pork and sauerkraut I have in the oven isn't on the "good" list but, I'll load up on my meds before I eat and hope for the best...One thing, I have learned, eat half of what I used to eat....But, my chips go down without a problem and the doctor just shakes her head, lol....

Jana, I had to reach for a sweater when I read your post...I honestly don't think I could take those temps any more, even inside, lol...The fellow with the annoying alarm must have done some heavy celebrating last night. Thank goodness Michael tracked it down....Around here, we had someone shooting off his, what sounded like a cannon...He started around 10:00 and stopped about 12:30...Not sure why he felt the need but hope he got it out of his system....I just felt sorry for those with babies and pets..(and those old folks who went to bed early).....

Chickie, Jim and I both had a habit of setting off the alarm on our last car, only because we didn't know which buttons to push...In fact, the day, we picked it up, we stopped to get a bite to eat...We're sitting there and noticed or heard an alarm going off..Well, one of us had pushed a button and then the other was trying to push another button! We joked and said, we just wanted everyone to see and hear our new car.....Do miss those funny little things......I'm really going to start getting more and more gluten free stuff and hopefully, that might help...Just looked at my bag of chips and guess what, Gluten Free!

Becca, hoping and praying DH will feel stronger and feel better...Maybe if we'd get alittle sunshine that would help...But, I also feel, this year is going to be a good one but there again, one step at a time......

As I said, pork and sauerkraut in the oven and I'm going to mash some potatoes...Once again, not sure who all or how many will be around but I'm always up for a surprise...And speaking of surprises, I did tell you about DGS, Ryan surprising his DGF, Maria with a ring the other night...I finally got the pictures and they are really special.....

So until my dinner is done, I'm going to do some mending...A friend gave me a couple of shams to cut down for her and I need to get that taken care of.....

You all have a great day........

Happy eating.................
