Supper Club. Sunday, November 25

Post by purrfect-lady » Sun Nov 25, 2018 1:06 am

Sunday, November 25 good morning!

We are in a little town called Smithville, Southeast of Austin. This is where our friends stay when they visit their daughter, about 3 miles away. It’s a nice little park with campground nestled in the trees. Today we are driving to Corpus Christi area and South Padre Island. We will spend two nights there before moving on to mission.

Jana, when our friends invited us to go to Michigan with them, that was our first thought-live PD! Glad you will be watching for us! LOL

Chickie, you will have a lot of fun week making those mints knowing how much the bride appreciates them..

Other Mary, are you renovating your house? I forgot if you told us. Bad me.

Last night we and the other two couples we are with went to the home of One couples daughter. She is out of town but she’ll let us use her house to spread out, play cards, and watch football on their big TV. We all took something to snack on and my offerings was turkey quesadillas. Refried beans, Chili’s, olives, turkey, shredded cheddar. They turned out pretty good ! We have leftovers so that might be supper tonight.

And you?

PS, I am back to using my phone so post are short

Hi MaryZ, Guess no one else is eating tonight or just plain busy with all the leftover company and/or turkey.

Glad you made it safely to TX. Nice to see you travel around and see so many things. Do it while you can. A time will come, when, health wise, you can't travel that much anymore. We did it for 8 1/2 yrs and now we have our memories of all the places you and others write about now. We watch travel shows and comment on, "We have been there".

We had a nice Thanksgiving dinner at our son's house. Our DGD and her dh and son and DDIL and us were all that were there but so enjoyable. Day was nice, around 60, so we sat out on deck for a long time just talking about so many things and laughing, etc. Great family gathering.

Unfortunately our Thanksgiving Day ended with a bang. Had to take Rod to ER about 9 pm. We got home about 4 and I took a nap. About 5 Rod came to bedroom door and said he thought he broke his toe. He is blind in one eye, had gone outside for something, and coming back up our walkway, tripped over one of my flower boxes sitting beside sidewalk. He moved the flowerbox with his foot and it is full of dirt, not light. It didn't look too bad then, put ice on it and found him a pain pill.

By nine oclock, his foot was really swollen and he could barely walk on it. I took him to ER. Hate being out at night, especially since a lot of deer and other critters and drunk drivers too. No one was in waiting room so got in immediately.

They xrayed his foot. His little toe was jammed up into his foot, the toe is broken, and his has a chip out of edge of foot higher up. They wrapped it with a splint, gave us an rx for pain meds and said to call Ortho on fri to see if they wanted to put on a cast or a boot type for him.

Guess what, ortho and a whole lot of other places were closed for the holiday weekend. He called VA ER and they said they had very little staff there and would only call someone in for surgery. ER dr said he didn't need surgery.

So long painful weekend for Rod. And for me trying to help him do things. Neither of us is getting a lot of sleep. Hoped to get him in for a blood test apptmt mon at VA and then go by VA ER and see what they can do aobut a boot or something.

Unfortunately, we live in the Midwest and there is a blizzard outside right now. Total whiteout at times. Pretty but piling up fast. Not sure we can get out in am if don't clean our sts here in complex.

Snow was supposed to get here about 9. Storm slowed down to dump more snow before it got here. It finally started raining around 11, very cold rain and didn’t last long before changed to snow. Now we have a full blown blizzard outside. Really heavy snow and said may not stop until about 6. Yikes???? Weatherman said could come down 2” an hr. We were supposed to get about 5”. Think we may be in winter wonderland soon.

I put extra bird seed out last night and more this morning, some on ground and on top of flower pots too for the ground feeders. Snow will cover it very quickly on the ground. I just saw a fat little grey squirrel sitting in the flower pot up in the tree, filling up on the corn that is in my bird seed. He looked happy and still in there, prob protecting it from others. I think he is sleeping in the pot and the wind is rock a byeing him.

Rod is really in pain again today. I am sure the cold and crazy weather is not helping any either and neuropathy in feet is bad right now too. He is napping right now. Poor guy.

I am watching a movie……Christmas Mail. On ION channel. Cute show. I am using leftover turkey tonight in some soup. We were going to do turkey noodle but when we were fixing lunch, I opened a cabinet door and a pkt mix of tortilla soup fell out. Great choice, and not much work involved. Chop up some turkey, add a little onion or carrots or whatever, stir in mix and have soup in 20 min or so. I like that kind of meal.

Gotta scoot. Rod needs to go for a blood test tomorrow for dr apptmt later this week at VA. He wants to go to Va anyway to try to see if someone will give him a boot or cast or something so he can get around better. Crutches don ‘t help much and he forgets and puts his foot down and that hurts.

God bless, Snow makes it more Christmasy outside. Just looked and squirrel is still snoozing in the flower pot on top of the bird seed and Domino is snoozing in the bedroom and Rod is snoozing in his bedroom. House sure seems quiet except for my movie. Love and hugs, ShirleyMae,and the snoozing household. Ps enjoy your holiday movies. This is the first Christmas movie I have watched this yr.

Good late afternoon from a pleasant, but now chilly, SW. Pa...Not sure what happened to my day but it sure got away from me....I had so many intentions but in the end, didn't get anything accomplished....

Mary, glad to hear you're having a super trip, all over Texas....You certainly do get around, you're wearing me out!

As I had written, not much getting done around here...I did meet for breakfast with 3 of the grands yesterday and it was a fun, fun time...Kathy's oldest was here for the holiday and was telling us all about her plans for her wedding, coming up in July...Kathy's kids are all into Zoos so why would Jackie be any different...So, the wedding will be at the Lehigh Zoo, probably very hot but she said, very informal...Everything is in place, all plans are made right down to the dozen of gluten free cupcakes for those with that allergy...Not sure where she gets her organization skills.....

About the only thing I've done was some crocheting...My sister gave me a bunch of dish towels to crochet tops for them..Also want to work on my embroidering for another quilt....
Yesterday was also a good sports day in our house....Both Notre Dame and the Penguins won....Notre Dame won over Southern Cal and now will be in the college playoffs...I know Jim and all his ND buddies are so thrilled....

As for my dinner, that's up in the air...Haven't really found just what I can eat, so it's gotten to be a lot of experimenting....But, there's always my bag of chips...I know, the doctor cringes when I tell her, chips don't make me sick!, lol.....

You all have a great rest of the day....

Happy eating............
