SUPPER CLUB - Sunday, Aug 19

Post by purrfect-lady » Sun Aug 19, 2018 4:18 am

Good morning!

Well, Bill was finally able to reach his SIL and he learned that they are thinking of having memorial Sept 9. So we have cancelled the first half of our upcoming trip and will leave on Sept 10 instead instead of Sept 1st. They know about our rezzie changes to accomodate this date, so we are hoping they don't change dates on us again.

Yesterday between hanging loads of wash (I love rough, line-dried towels!) I dug into my UFO box and started playing with blocks from past swaps. Also, I was thinking of doing something with all my Halloween fabrics - perhaps using them to make a log cabin for the couch . . . . Today, more fabric play an then we're off to friends' in Olympia for supper. Not sure what we'll be eating. She's always on a weird diet and likes to experiment with us. We have been fed leftover buffalo casserole (for our anniversary dinner!) and quinoa/kale/squash/curry casserole, among other things. Bill does NOT like squash or curry or kale or quinoa. lol! And neither of us are too keen on buffalo. So supper is an uneasy unknown.

BECCA - perhaps since there's no curry or kale in it Bill will like your recipe. I'm going to try it, anyway because I do like squash. You know, I was thinking - You DH has a lot of pain and he loves sweets. I'm sure you know that sugar can cause inflammation which causes pain, or exacerbates pain that is already there. Just sayin'.... I know sweets are one of his few pleasures.

JANA - sounds like fun times coming up in your Batt Cave! I'm glad Aaron is out of that job. In WA, P&P officers aren't allowed to carry weapons either. And they have to walk into a lot of unknown, dangerous situtions. Case in point . . . I've mentioned before. Happy birthday to your Andrew! I remember 12! I remember waking up to a shiney new Schwinn bike! Emerald green. I named it Sylvester. It's in my front yard now with 3 other family bikes, all painted different colors, in a strange, but unique display, like the Tour'd'France playing hide and seek among my trees.

IRISH - we sure get what you said about sometimes you have to start praying the other way - we were like that here with both our brothers. I'm going to send up prayers for your DS and BIL and y'all can sort them out how you best want them to go. Too bad that they have messed with the schools so much. I actually went to the same Catholic school, St. Leo's, all 12 years. Grade school was 1-8 and high school was 9-12. and I wore uniforms! I loved it! The classes, the uniforms, the nuns (most of them, anyway). My sisters did not love it, for what that's worth. My mom also went there and she must have liked it, too, because she went through a lot to make sure we girls went.

Well, I already mentioned our supper - unknown. Will give you a report tomorrow. lol! I wish you all luck with yours!

Hello everyone, cloudy here &69.We are to be cooler this week.

Maryz I have tried about sweets & sugar.Hewill not give them up.Says that’s one of his few enjoyments left.Iknow it would help.If it was me I would gladly.
So glad you have a tentative date.
Wow that must be like going for a surprise meal.Sounds kind of strange.I would never serve buffalo to Someone unless I knew they liked wild meat.

Jana Was relieved to read the evacuation was called off.I know when we had the fires I kept everything ready to jump in & leave.Thankful it ended well.

Irish Prayers for DS & DBIL We sure never know what life will throw our way.And especially as we get older.Did I say that? Lol I know that dog bite has changed my way of doing things.Lots of things my hand won’t allow anymore.Fastening my bra is done only by putting in front then putting it on that way.So life goes on. U

Tina Glad you got those tamales all made.Thats a lot at one time.My DDIL said her Mother gave up sweets & it cured her arthritis.I was sceptical about that.Think you would have to do more.
Thanks for the hugs.

DH is not eating much so it will be ham steak & corn on cob. Becca

Good morning :)
We didn't walk this morning, Frankie wasn't feeling good so I got started on thetamales, I made 57! They're in the cooker now, should be ready about lunch time....good timing huh hehe
Mary, I feel for you going to surprise meals, I'm not one for that....I'm a rude invite, I always ask what anyone is making LOL
Becca, when I gave up sugar it helped me for a little while but never totally. I'm still all swollen and hurt awful...it gets old fast giving so much up and still not getting relief or seeing any improvements. Hugs to you and your DH.
Irish, I'll be sending prayers too, it's so hard to know what to pray for, I went through that with Mom and finally just ask God to do what He thought was best.
I'm not sure what's for supper, I have chicken in the fridge thawing and we will have cooked tamales and I also have leftover meat and red chile sauce so I could do easy fast burritos if I've a mind to. :)
I'll be in my sewing room most of the day again and I'll just see how I feel but at least I have choices tonight :)
Tina

Morning all:

So nice to see the bright yellow sun again! We are still in the 100's each day, but the air quality is so much better. Hope it lasts awhile because Oct is official fire season beginning and we may have another go around with fires again.

Bathroom is all tiled and the counter is in, waiting for the contractor to come back and put in all the fixtures and paint. Working on week 4. Because of the need to keep the house open for the tilers to go back and forth to their saws, the house has filled up with mosquitoes and we are having a terrible time getting rid of them. We have new bites daily. We are keeping the bedroom doors closed during the day but they are still in the family room, living room and computer room. They are sneaky and attack your lower legs when you are just sitting in the rooms. You don't feel or see them until you start to itch. I will be SO-O-O-O-O glad when we have our house back!

Saturday several of us guild members went to another member's house to clean out her "crafting room". She now has Alzheimers and the family said we could have all her stuff to auction off at the guild. She was into weaving, knitting and quilting. We left the weaving stuff and just took the rest. It feels sort of sacrilegious to be going through someone else's treasures and thinking about how much happiness she derived from making things. I am in charge of cleaning up a Janome, Featherweight and Serger for sale. However, parts of each are missing, like the accessories and instruction books. I will have to get in touch with the other ladies and see if they came across them when they grabbed stuff.

Yesterday I went to the funeral of one of my little TLQ quilting group. She was the sweetest, nicest little lady you could ever know. Her family had put up 30 of her quilts for display in the church and social rooms. I didn't realize what beautiful hand work she did. Now I am looking at the other elderly members of my group and wondering who is next.

Monday morning (tomorrow) 4 members of this quilting group (6 members) are loading up my SUV and we are traveling 3 1/2 hours to the coast to an ex-member's house for a 4 day sewing retreat. It will be so nice to get away from the heat, the mosquitoes, the dust and noise of renovation and the carping and complaining of DH for a short while. My SUV will be packed to the gills with 4 machines and all our accessories.

DH says it is pineapple pork chops, string beans/mushrooms and hash browns for dinner tonight. For all those in need, prayers are always sent, living life can be hard. Hope you all have a good week.

I think I missed you guys, yesterday. I was being industrious with snowmen. The time is fast approaching for the swap, so I need to stop putt putt putting, and get them done!

I will go home and make supper for my honey, tonight. Not sure what. Tamales sound good to me. I got some last week tht were wonderful at the mexican rstaurant Dan doesn't like. (too heavy on meat).

Maybe some pasta. I would like to make a pasta salad for lunches next week. We have plenty of frozen veggies to throw in. Maybe ramen noodle soup. Maybe chicken breast in peanut sauce with rice or barley. That one wins!

Bob is still mkaing small progress. Can't stand or transfer to a chair, yet. Probably won't make the cut for MRU. We will see.

Have a nice evening.
Pam
