SUPPER CLUB - Friday, August 3rd

Post by purrfect-lady » Fri Aug 03, 2018 2:58 am

Good morning!

Between the owls hooting at the dog, the dog barking at the owls, and the cat jumping up and down from windowsill to bed and back again to see what all the hullabaloo was about, I had an early morning! Gotta love having furbabies.

Bill is almost finished quilting my brother's anniversary quilt. So this afternoon I'll probably get the binding on. If not, then tomorrow morning. I really poured the coal on this one, putting in about 8 hours a day at my machine. This is the pattern I was going to do in mainly blues for our friend who lost his wife. Then I remembered the special anniversary and switched to greens to go with Albert and Barb's house. What a time consuming quilt! I figured an hour per block times 42 blocks. So now I'm back to our widowed friend but he's getting a much simpler pattern from BLOCK magazine. I got it cut out yesterday afternoon - elongated shoofly blocks. Today I'll work on that one.

IRISH - you are lucky to have such good neighbors. I think they probably think they are lucky to have such a good neighbor, too! In this day and age, that's a treasure! I've got to write your itinerary down. You never know where we'll be . . .;o) I hope you are giving your sister all the hugs we are sending her!

CHICKIE - yes, blue is blue, except when you put one with 8 others and it stands out as turquoise, even though it looks blue when standing alone. But fortunately, I have quite a collection of blues, so swapping out that one square (well, 8 as I made 8 blocks) was no biggie. And I don't sew circles around you. I just have more time for sewing. Plus, I think my sister might have been right when she called me obsessive. Congratulations on being selected to be in the challenge!! Now you'll get obsessive! I can't wait to see what all you come up with! You are so creative.

JANA - you, too, are creative! Have you done any more skinnies? I'm anxious to see Sunflowers completed. Maybe I can help with a photo? What a scary close call with Sarah's BBQ! Glad everyone acted quickly!

BECCA - our news says you are wet, Wet, WET! I wouldn't bother cleaning my floors either! We do try to keep an eye on Vicki. We really can't see much from our house as we dont' have windows on that side. But we just felt a lack of energy coming from her place and she hadn't been out for a few days. Plus the trash can left on the road for 2 days was so unusual. Last year she fell off a ladder and laid on her floor for 10 hours before she was able to crawl to a phone and call kids. There's no way to see if something like that happens. She is so unstable that it's a constant risk. and now she has no phone because she keeps smashing all the phones the kids have given her.

PAM - haha! I like your philosophy on "swigging"! Life is too short to drink rotgut! lol!

Supper tonite is easy! I have some leftover meatloaf that will be hacked up and put into spaghetti sauce. And we'll have whatever veggie I can find in the crisper. We've got a shopping trip coming up so right now, pickings are slim in the veggie department.

Good almost afternoon here! I must have been tired last night as I really slept in this morning! I couldn’t believe the clock said 7:30! I hustled around and got a shower, cleaned floors and did my yoga practice before DH returned from geezer coffee ready for brunch.

Mary, you really did pour on the coals on your quilt! I can’t concentrate 8 hours at a time on anything! I sincerely wish I could. I think the older I get the more I bounce off the walls. I could never have stuck out 42 blocks at an hour a block! You have my admiration, for sure!!! I can be obsessive, but only for 15 minutes at a time before I have to do something else. Lol! I looked at the lotto, but that’s all I did. My sister gave me a ton of blue “calico” fabrics (80s vintage) that would make a great blue scrappy quilt. They are all pre-washed. But, now I have another project when the fabrics arrive…

Becca—DH and I were walking yesterday, and it’s dry again. We could sure use some of your rain! Stay in and sew. You’re right, I wouldn’t be mopping floors with the rain. Of course, I doubt you have three dogs tracking through the house!

Pam—too funny about the spirits! It definitely needs to stand on it’s own before mixing to enhance, not cover, flavors. O.K. You had me at the round, meaty things from the bay! Were they as good as you made them sound?

Jana—so glad there was an extinguisher handy and it got used! That could have been a disaster! Several of our rentals have semi-melted plastic siding where tenants have used their grills right next to the house. Glad it hasn’t been worse.

Irish—thinking of you and your sister and BIL. Seems like life isn’t easy the older we get.

Dinner tonight… I think beef with onions and peppers… maybe fajita style. And, lots of tomatoes!!!

Bon appétit!

Hello everyone.Been busy today.Got early start ,Hardware Store for bolts & screws to connect headboard to frame.Men didn’t bring any.DG then groceries.
Then tried to help CA hook up the headboard. He took a bad spill yesterday while I was gone.Leg & Hand all scraped & cut.His BP is low so Sure that caused it.Fun never ends.
Put on new mattress cover, the dressed the bed again. It really slept good last nite.No backache.

Maryz I could never sit for 8 hrs & sew.I think 31/2 used to be my limit but like Chickie I cant concentrate that long.Great that you can.Sure those quilts are all loved & admired.
Those animals don’t let you rest.I mean the 🦉.

Jana Wow sure glad there was quick action & no damage done.Fires are scary.

Chickie I know you’re all anxious to get that fabric. This is our first day with no rain. There is flooding everywhere.I just took my walk & the creek is full & streams running everywhere due to ground springs.v

Pam Love your stick food .lol

Good afternoon!

Very quiet day here. Got the Ward bulletin done for Sunday. Don't know what dinner will be, Michael is cooking. Something he doesn't do often or well. We will see. Me, I am under the weather, just a tad and doing better now.

Enjoy,
Jana

Good afternoon from warm but slightly overcast, SW Pa....We did have rain earlier but think maybe it's moved on...

Mary, I really, really can't believe how you whip out those quilts...So anxious to see a picture....It's funny about my,or I should say, Kathy's plans...I know she loves to travel, even when the PO sends her on these teaching trips..Any time we went on the trips for Irish dance competition, she would find sights that we needed to see and it would be a mini vacation...And her kids are following right in her foot steps...Jackie and her fellow are in the Galapagus (sp) Islands right now...
So far so good with my DBIL...I haven't talked to her yet today but last night she said he was resting comfortably..He and I were close, he was the closest thing to having a brother...When he would bring his truck to the dealer to have it services, he's call and I'd pick him up and we'd go to lunch...It just seemed he needed someone to talk to and now, he doesn't talk, just stares...So sad! But, as you had said, she still has him to hold his hand, kiss his cheek...So often taken for granted but in times like this, it's the best....

Becca, If you don't mind, try to keep the rain down there, we don't need it, at least for a couple of days...It wouldn't take too much to talk me out of doing floors...Come to think about it, it doesn't take too much to talk me out of doing any uglies......Hope DH is feeling better......

Chickie, I keep going back and looking at the picture you sent me...I just love it....You are very fortunate to still have your Mom and it seems like she is really with it..So glad this "old age" stuff hasn't affected her....Reminds me of Jim's Mom who was just a few weeks shy of 100 when she passed...When she was in her early 90s, we told her she should go to the Sr. citizen lunches at the church down the street and she told us, that was for old people and she'd think about it when she got old....

Well my lunch break is over and I need to get moving...I've been baking a few things to take to Cari's tomorrow and I need to finish cleaning...
Would you believe, this is Nick's last day at work and next weekend he's on his way back to school...He has a friend from N.C. coming to visit and then drive back down with him...He said, he'd be down after work today and if I want, he'll ride into the airport with me when I go for Kathy....

As for dinner, I might wait for Nick...Whatever he picks will be good.....

You all have a great rest of the day.....

Happy eating.............

Today is whatever we find in the fridge day. Or counter. We have cucumbers, tomatoes, corn, pineapple, strawberries, cherries, a pepper, apricots, and peaches. I am sure we can find enough to eat.

I didn't have any forbidden food, last night. I had a hummus plate. And 3 beers. One was pale ale, one was passion fruit, and one was grapey.
