SUPPER CLUB - tuesday, July 24
Good morning!
Scottie was up at 0415 this morning. So guess who else was . . . Yaaawwwwnnnnn..
Yesterday I started another quilt - cream with various greens. The pattern is called Vintage Revival in the June, 2018 issue of American Patchwork and Quilting. It's blue/white in the pattern, but I'm using colors that will work better in my brother, Albert's house. It's their 60th anniversary Aug 9. I need to get crackin'!!
Bill's brother, Mike, called last night. He has decided it's time to move to a Hospice facility. He told Bill it's getting to be a lot for his wife to help him with everything and he doesn't want her last memories of him to be as his caregiver, but as a loving wife. I think Bill might still be in a bit of denial about losing his third, and last brother.
Today will be full. I'm starting with a 7:30am dental appt to get my new crown seated. Then I need to trim my Santa quilt that Bill finished quilting two days ago. It's ready for binding, button eyes, and mustaches. I'm hoping he gets my holly wreath quilt on the frame next. Then I have some uglies to do because we're going to supper tonite with 2 other couples and we're inviting them back here for birthday cake and coffee. It was Bill's birthday last Fri and our friend, Claudia's, birthday on Saturday. We got Claudia a blue and white semi-sheer floaty thing that can be used as an evening wrap or a swimsuit cover-up. They love taking cruises and this would be purrfect for her.
LINDA - first of all, happy birthday!! I know it was yesterday and I remembered all weekend long, but got rushed yesterday and forgot. Bad me! I hope you had a terrific day celebrating! I saw your comment on my photo post of Gypsy Dancer. I had to laugh. You said you bought that pattern because of me and I bought it because of Suzette! lol!
TINA - you are simply too too hot!! I hope Holly gets her A/C fixed soon! Makes me feel guilty whining over 90*. (we're upper 80's to 92* here all this week). My niece said it's been 98* in Fairbanks, so I can't even whine to the Alaskan branch of our family!
CHICKIE - Your Hooligans are a fantastic trio. I love them all! I wish everyone here could meet them in person. Autumn will be here this weekend. I'm going to have her show me a couple of basic yoga moves. Seems just having a Yoga book from the Goodwill displayed on my coffee table isn't doing all the good I thought it would.
BECCA - I think you must have the bestest DD and DSIL in all of North Carolina!! Didn't you go to the dr last week to have your hand checked? What did she say?
IRISH - big hugs going to both you and your sister. She is going through so much right now and I know you still are yourself.
PAM - I think we might all be just a bit envious of you with your rain! Please share!
Last night was a treat! I thawed seasoned chicken breasts and we bought 2 ears of corn at the store yesterday. While I was busy sewing late yesterday afternoon, Bill sneaked into the kitchen and made salads, shucked the corn, and tossed the chicken on the grill! Then he poured me a glass of chilled chardonnay. What a treat to have supper fixed, without my even knowing it! Dessert was M&M's. This has happened maybe 7 times in 26 years. So I treasure the experience!
Tonite - no cooking here! and probably there will be leftovers brought home for tomorrow night, too.
Wishing you all a good supper!

Re: SUPPER CLUB - tuesday, July 24
Good morning
Just got back from my walk. Frankie had to go firstthing to the dentist this morning.
Mary, I looked up that pattern, very pretty! It will look great in greens! It's too hot for me too here! I actually got a headache yesterday from just walking from the suburban into Dad's. My day didn't go as planned, Holly called about 10:30 and wanted to know if I could take her to Cruces to pick up her part because of they mailed it then it wouldn't be here till Wednesday and with this heat that's just not the best thing. So we took her over there, ate lunch and came back, record trip..we were gone a total of 3 hours, 2 hours was drive time! Anyway the guy came and fixed her a.c. and at 7 last night her house was down to 85, I'm sure as soon as the sun went down it cooled off faster.
Mary, I'm so sorry to hear about Bill's brother but also glad that he was able to make the decision to go to hospice, I think when the person steps up and says their wishes it takes a load off of their loved ones. Mary, that was great of Bill to cook like that!
My plan today is working on snowmen.
Supper tonight is our pizza night at the winery, I'm glad because cooking in that heat last night had me feeling yucky. We'll probably stop before or after to see what we can get Jazmyne for her birthday coming up Saturday.

Re: SUPPER CLUB - tuesday, July 24
Good morning! This morning the Hooligans walked to Choc’s to feed her and let her out. She will stay outside this morning until it starts getting hot. We will put her inside when we go walk Ava. Choc does love her AC! It was cooler, with high humidity when we walked. When I came home, I cleaned floors and did 40 minutes of yoga. Then I hit the shower—felt soooo good!
Yesterday afternoon we went to Independence for DH’s appointment with a podiatrist. He had the ingrown part of a toenail removed. It was a long afternoon. The Hooligans and I walked to Choc’s at her bedtime.
Mary—what an unselfish man Mike is to want to move to a hospice facility and keep his wife as his loving wife and not the caregiving slave. I’m sorry about Bill. I know DH’s brother was the same way. He is the last of 6 siblings. Sounds like you have a busy day planned! I know what you are saying about the yoga book. I have one that I got before I found this station to tape. Since I’d done yoga before, the book was a good reference, but I really enjoy practicing along to the tape—like being in a yoga class. Yes, the Hooligans are quite the trio! LOL! Have fun with Autumn! I would love a personal yoga teacher! Bill is quite a guy!!! That hasn’t happened here in the almost 13 years we’ve been married.
We are “only” going to be 90 here today. It’s so welcome! We have 60% chance of rain over the weekend. That’s funny, as DD’s birthday is Saturday. It never mattered what day I planned a birthday party for her, it rained. I’m hoping that she will come for lunch with Mom and me, and it will insure rain if I call it her party. I’ll make her a red velvet cake—that should really bring on the showers, I think!
Tina—glad Holly got her AC fixed! I think DD’s is out as well. They have a lot of shade around their house, and it stays fairly cool. I think they have window units until they have the whole system re-worked. They are renovating a 1920s house. Enjoy your pizza!
I’m hoping to find time to sew today, but I want to go to town and get the oil changed in my truck. DH hates working on it. I will stop at DS’s garden and grab a few tomatoes and take to Mom and my sister. I also want to take my sister’s birthday present to her—I decided to give the placemats to her for her birthday and I’ll do something else for Christmas.
That’s it from the farm today. Dinner tonight… summer fare for me, burger or steak for DH with some broccoli or pineapple. He doesn’t eat much, so cooking isn’t fun. I had a huge salad last night and loved every bit of it—what’s not to love about fresh tomatoes!
Bon appétit!

Good morning!
Put a small history lesson of the pioneers over in sew ins. I am watching the parade. Aaron is working the parade, so I am sure to get a few god backstories today.
Dinner - a chicken something. I have a whole large chicken that I may roast or cut up - will figure that out later.
Mary - lots of prayers for Mike - he is giving his family a great gift. Love your Gypsy dancer and that picture of you - you haven't changed a bit!
Chickie - I need to raid Sarah's garden! Michael l8ves fresh summer fare.
Tina - enjoy the pizza out! It does get cooler, we have cooled off slightly, but we are climbing over 100 today.
Linda - Happy Birthday!
Well, I need to scoot,
Enjoy,
Jana

Thanks for the birthday wishes. It was a very low key day, nothing out of the ordinary. Did go to my little quilting group and surprise, they served chocolate cake. So I got my cake and ate it too! Now that I have passed into 70 I feel like my time is running out and I still have so much I want to do. My Mom passed at 79 but my Dad made it to an active 92 so I hope I take after his side. Still so many quilts to make!
Broke our record for 22 consecutive days over 100 and at least 10 days more are predicted. Add humidity and smoke to that and we had to come in early this morning. Just too miserable to be outside. However, the weeds and Asian Jasmine love this heat and they are winning the race since I can't spend the time outside that is needed. The Asian Jasmine tendrils are creeping across the pool deck and threatening to strangle my roses.
Mary, you sure have had your share and other's shares of loss in your family, and you are younger that I am. I know it is a fact of life, but it still hurts. Hugs to you and Bill. And prayers for all those of you in need.
I have a question: I have a panel I want to put into the middle of a quilt. Directions say to cut it a specific size (46 x 26) to fit the bordering blocks around it. However, it is printed crooked on the panel and I am at a loss how to cut it so the picture is straight because the grain is so crooked. Any suggestions?
Well, inside for the rest of the day. Thank heavens I finished up the fruit dehydrating yesterday...it made the sun room in 90's and we couldn't even sit out there. You all stay cool too.

Re: SUPPER CLUB - tuesday, July 24
Good afternoon from warm, semi sunny, SW. Pa....They keep calling for rain but only had a few drops yesterday afternoon....
Mary, you really do have busy days, don't you? How come Scottie decided to get up so early? Probably taking a nap now, right? My fur kids seem to know now to bother me but boy when Baby Girl senses I'm awake, then the fun begins...Kelly is a late sleeper and most times misses breakfast.....I can understand how Bill is feeling, that's tough...But, what a good decision for your DBIL to make, that is special....
I haven't talked to my sister today so not sure what she'll be doing...But, her daughter is so determined to bring him home although this same daughter will be going back to work in another month and my sister will be on her own....My DBIL weighs 215 and just common sense, you know my sister isn't able to care for him....I try not to open my mouth too much but every once in awhile, I do tell her, she has to be in charge, not let the kids tell her what to do....There again, hard to do......
Just this morning, one of the gals I normally have lunch with, lost her Dad...She had him at home but also had Hospice come in.....
Chickie, I had to laugh about it always raining on DD birthday...Jim always told us, for he and his sibs birthdays they would always go to visit their grandmother but it never failed, his birthday being in Feb. it would snow and he always missed out on that treat.....You're lucky you can pick up "goodies" at DS's garden....It seems most of the gardens aren't doing to well this year even the zucchini aren't producing....
My tree trimmers are here...I've been going back and forth whether just to have them trimmed or completely cut down....But, so far it's just trimming, next year it might be completely cut down, lol...
Other than that, not much happening...I'm too busy looking out, checking on the trees, lol....But, I did bake an apple braid and as soon as it's done, I am going to do some sewing...Just need to get the binding on the 1st quilt and then hopefully get the other one started....Maybe, I'm finally getting that "mojo" back.....
My dinner might be some sort of chicken...I've found that's about the only thing I can eat without getting the pains....As long as I don't start sprouting feathers, I guess it's OK.....Chicken and chips, good diet, right????
You all have great day........
Happy eating..............................

It was 90 in the parkinglot, after work, but it had gotten cloudy and dropped to 79 by the time I got home. It is promissing rain in the sky. We will see if we get any sprinkles.
I can't wait for the tomatoes, here. I have one green one about 3" across out in the garden. It is usually mid to late August before they come in. The farmers markets have them, but they are shipped in. Still better than winter tomatoes. The people who have greenhouses and plant early are starting to get some ripe.
I am thinking tomato sandwiches for supper, here. With mangos and greek yogurt for dessert. Wallyworld had them for 33¢ each, and they are dead ripe. Awesome. I may sneak in some baby cukes and an avacado. And a couple radishes. A strawberry or two... lots of little offerings!
Becca, I am hoping you have full range of motion in your hand and wrist by now. If it goes on too long, you may need to see an ortho to make sure the underlying structures are OK. This is quite a bite.
Mary, I don't know which I liked better the gypsy dancers or the quilt. Both were great.
Chickie, I wouldn't want the heat you get, but I am envious of the tomato picking!
Linda, Happy birthday! I surely don't want your heat. I wouldn't be able to breath.
Jana, I will run over to sew in and do a little lurking. I do that, sometimes, because conversations sometimes go between supper club and the sew ins.
Irish, I understand the dilema. I sometimes think about getting half the trees around here chopped down. It would be less danger for the house, and give us more light.
Have a great evening.
