Hey there, Y’all!

Here I am! In sisters, Oregon. Have little to no Internet most days So I’m using my phone to dictate a short message here. I did hit the quilt shop here called “the stitchin’ post”. I couldn’t resist a few fat quarters, 2 yards of batik, and a book on animal appliqués. Today we are moving south, more towards crater Lake. Don’t tell Bill, but my quilting buddies at the RV rally said There is a great shop in Lapine, where we will be staying for two nights. 😉

We are with two other couples and yesterday we all went to a distillery to do some tasting. I am not much for the hard stuff, but there were two vodkas-one pepper made from a combination of five different hot peppers and which I really liked. The other is hatch green chili vodka which I liked even more. It made me think of Tina who lives so close to Hatch, New Mexico. I had to buy a small bottle of each. Just had to.

On Saturday we are moving over to the Oregon coast. We will stay there four nights and then head for home. Unless we go home early. Weather there is low 60s and drizzly. Typical coastal weather. Also, yesterday we learned that Bill’s brother has gone into hospice care at home. If he takes a sudden bad turn, we will go Home ASAP.

Bill had a note from an old coworker this morning. His wife died five years ago and last year he went to his 50th high school Reunion. He was seated next to an old classmate and they learned they lived only two blocks apart. She was also widowed. Started seeing each other and six months later they were married. A happy story to share.

Tonight supper will be burgers on the grill and potato salad. And probably a green salad. I stocked up on fresh veggies yesterday. I have been missing my greens!

It’s hard to edit phone messages correctly. My phone has a mind of its own so I hope this reads OK. Miss you all!

Here is a picture of our campsite in The town of Sisters, Oregon. Our trailer is the one in the middle. Our friends are on either side of us. They don’t show in this photo but the back drop for this town are three snow covered mountains called The Three Sisters. It’s a beautiful town in the middle of a pine forest. Pines are my favorite trees.

Good morning :)
Mary, have fun at thequilt shop!
We have a mountain range South
West of us that are called Tres Hermanas: Three Sisters :)
We went for my walk and I've watered, going to get me breakfast in a minute. I think I'll have an egg. I'm not sure what supper will be yet, I've just been trying to stay out of the heat, when it's in theupper 90's it's bad enough but after 100 there's no energy for doing much around here including eating.....but we seem to keep eating LOL

Good morning! I missed yesterday—rental work. I scraped (yes! Gunk on floors!), washed and waxed floors. The good news is… finished with that one!!! One down, two to go… it will take all summer, I’m sure. They are really bad this time. I can’t believe it, but each time is worse than the time before. I really don’t think there are any good renters in this area. Everyone says the same about their rentals.

I picked about a quart of blackberries last evening. It’s the first picking of the season. I’m sure it will be an every evening event for a few weeks. Today we are going to DS1’s and get sweet corn. We use a machete and get stalks and all. We use the picnic table in the yard and prepare the ears for freezing, then the cows get stalks and whatever doesn’t get frozen. They think the stalks are stick candy!

Mary—you are in quilt shop heaven! It will be fun to hear about the quilt shops and shop there through your eyes and pocket book! I’m thinking those vodkas would be great in spicy V8. I hesitate to use the name of the drink, as it contains your name. Sounds fun! Bill’s classmate story sounds much like DH’s and mine. Ours was 40th reunion, 150 miles apart, and wedding 2 years later I moved to the farm… Ya never know who you might find at a reunion… Your setting is beautiful! I love the big pines in the Black Hills. We pup-tent camped in a setting like yours. Beautiful!!!

Pam—your quilt is so sweet! You did a great job with the layout. It looks delightful. Did you say it’s for a niece? I’m drawing a blank if you said.

Jana—I can relate to your wilted salad, stew, anything. We are going for 100 today with heat index of 110+. Heat advisory yesterday and today. The humidity here is a killer—like trying to breathe under water.

Becca—we’ve had storms go around us. We get pop up thunderstorms and have watched the clouds roll in and go around us. With the heat we are already having, it’s hard to watch rain go by. Scary to think what July and August will bring.

Irish—are you packed? Hope you are feeling better! I can’t remember for sure when you leave.

Tina—I hope you are surviving the heat as well. We have extreme heat or extreme cold, and the weatherman calls it average temperatures. I think it’s fuzzy math, myself!

Dinner tonight… definitely sweet corn! On the cob for DH, off for me (still doing dental stuff). Steak for him. Salad of some kind for me. It’s so boring here any more. My tofu was really good—kind of a sticky Chinese thing that I made up as I went—Hoisin sauce, soy sauce for a marinade then sautee in sesame and olive oil. I had it with a mushroom, rice and pasta side. DH did not like the side, and he did not eat the tofu but stuck to his beef.

Stay cool! Bon appétit!

Hello everyone, another rainy day here after a round of storms last nite.Do hope we get some drying soon.Wish I could share with those in need.

Maryz. Enjoy your quilt shops. My DD went into them when they crossed the USA.
Pine trees are on my least favorite tree due to breakage in snow & ice or wind.We have one close but it’s on someone else’s land.

Chickie I knew you were held up in Rentals.Sure hope you get a break soon & can get some good renters.
Oh that fresh corn sounds Wonderful. It doesn’t come in here until late July & August.

Tina That heat would do me in.And DH just can’t deal with it bec of his breathing.Try to stay out of sun all you can.

I think Irish has already left. Not Sure.

Pam Your sweet little quilt will bring joy to Mother & Baby.

I got my hair cut but didn’t go into town due to rain & lightening. Will go tomorrow.Tallulahs party is tonite so we will go there.
DH wants a burger & Chips. I’m having stir fri with onions & zucchini.Pickled beets, & pineapple. Becca

Good afternoon from a warm but semi sunny Sw. Pa...We were told by those in the know, (questioning that) that we were to be hot, hot, hot starting today and through the weekend...Well, so far, I'm almost ready to get out a sweatshirt and socks but that's OK...

Oh Mary, what a trip "we" are having...I love, love the pictures you've posted, so peaceful looking AND those quilt shops, it sure is good to be you.....I'm sure you did pick up all those samples for me, right.....AND speaking of samples, we went to a distillery in Ireland and I wasn't a fan of the hard stuff until they put it in a type of punch...Now that was good! Should have gotten the recipe.....

Jana, Had a chuckle over your yesterday dinner "Menu"....Rarely do we get those temps, although this year, we've already had 90 twice....

Chickie, you had my mouth watering when you talked about the fresh corn....I broke down and bought some at Walmart the other day and ended up throwing it away...Will just have to wait for the farmers to start selling...And the same with tomatoes...I only have 3 plants but they are loaded....I just hope they don't all ripen at the same time and then quit....

Becca, hope all is OK in your neck of the woods....Nice to hear your neighbor is coming for a visit...

Tina, you have the heat also and you're right about not having any energy if it gets too hot...Wonder what I can blame my lack of energy on, lol....

Well, you know that saying about the Best layed plans or whatever it it.......I had a call from Kathy on Tuesday saying they wouldn't be able to make the trip east! DH, Tim had gone for some sort of test and ended up in the hospital having open heart surgery on Wed...He's doing very well and will probably be home on Sat. but needless to say, he's staying put with Kathy as his nurse...But, since it's all paid for, she still wants everyone to go...I'm still not sure what I'm doing but DGS, Dan said, he wants me to ride down with him and his girlfriend....Nick has decided he's staying home, kind of likes the idea of being home alone and can work on his car...If I go, he'll probably take care of the cats and I'll only stay until Wed. I really want to be with the kids and check out Cari's baby bump....I'm sure there will be other trips but I know Kathy was looking forward to this one....
Did try to talk my sister into going away with me, just for a couple of days but she can't get away...The home is ready to discharge her DH and there is no way she is able to take care of him so now, she's checking out nursing homes that offer rehab..We often say, "who would have thought....." And it's true, you just never know what life has in store or what might get thrown at you....More and more, I've been telling everyone, don't put off, do things today because too often you might not get that chance.....

I spent all morning with my "money guy", transferring Jim's IRAs and making sure things are in order...We laugh when I say, money guy, because we sure don't have money! But he is a friend (I'd like to adopt him) and he wants to make sure my $1.95 is secure....Now, I need to write out a few checks and then I think I'll work on the baby quilt...I'm afraid to go outside, I hear the neighbor mowing my grass and I don't want to feel more guilty, lol......

For my dinner, it's still going to be something light...Really have no appetite but that's OK....Do have a couple zucchini so might make a cake......

You all have a great rest of the day......

Happy eating.............

Eagle Update:

The eagle nests near me are now empty...The babies have fledged and will stop back at the nest to check if Mom or Dad has stocked the fridge (typical kids)....But, they are out there flying, meeting up with other young eagles and hopefully, learning how to survive....May they all soar high and live long.....

Good afternoon!

What fun y'all are having! My toaster just bit the dust, even after cleaning out the burnt crumbs. So I ordered a new one from Bed Bath and Beyond. So while I was there, I talked DH into a new fryer as well. My old one quit working awhile back and he has wanted some of my homemade doughnuts and I can't do them well without a fryer. So I got that too!

Aaron called and needs me and the Sam's card for the pork butt he is smoking for dinner after Church on Sunday. Heck, he could just used my old toaster, all it does is smoke now! LOL

The wind has been blowing steady all night and so far today. We are cooling off, even though the wind is from the south, off the desert.

Dinner - still to be decided - something easy and quick and doesn't heat up the house too much, probably tacos or nachos.

Enjoy!
Jana

Hello, everybody. The rain stopped, and the sun is out. It is in the mid 70's and gearing up for heat and bad breathing weather, this weekend.

The quilt is for a pregnant co-worker. Thank you for your comments.

Today, I am planning to stop at the BBQ place for supper. They have a black smoker that looks like a choo choo train. Dan will have ---- fry. It is different than what you normally get in our area. Usually it is beer batter, but theirs is a corn meal batter. I have yet to decide what tickles my fancy. Maybe chicken.. or ribs.. or brisket... or they have a chicken and half rack combo meal. Hmmm. Sides are easy - beans and collard greens. A lady I know I used to work with and her husband own the place. Last year, they managed to stay open for the winter. This year, they stopped serving in December. I was waiting for them to reopen for Memorial Day, but they didn't. I had given up hope, and was watching for a sale sign. But, they reopened on June 21st. I want to make sure to support them every so often, because I like the food, and because I don't want them to go under.

Oh, you hot people. I would so melt. My lungs would get so heavy and not want to work.

Mary, the pine trees and your campers are pretty. Glad you were able to sneak in, today.

Tina, when it gets that hot, my husband and my one dog both stop eating. About the only thing Dan is interested in is popsicles.

Chickie, I love sweet corn. If it weren't so hot, I might stop by to help you eat it!

Becca, do you get enough protein? Your dinner sounds wonderful. I am forever adding some nuts or cheese or legumes to Dan's selections, because he is so light on protein. He thinks a single serving of yogurt is enough protein for the day.

Irish, I am sorry Kathy can't make it. What an abrupt circumstance. I bet they are both scared and relieved that the issue was caught and dealt with.

Jana, you remind me of a cute story. Years ago, I couldn't understand why my toaster smoked so much. Then, one day, I noticed DH buttering his bread before he put it in the toaster. When I told him he couldn't do that, he didn't understand why not. That is the way he always had done it.

Have a great day, Linda, and anyone I didn't get!
Pam

My poor pittiful puppy. None of the squeaky toys squeak, anymore. All they do is hiss. One of these days, I need to run by Wallyworld and get another. The other puppy is fine. She likes the toys that crinkle. I love my puppies.
