SUPPER CLUB - May 1 - MAY DAY!

Good morning!

It's a bird-chirping morning! They are liking May so far!

Yesterday was a productive day. Got a lot of cleaning done. Also sewing, laundry, and we did give blood! yay! My iron was up to 14.2. Bill's wasn't quite that high, but it was high enough.

Today I have a massage appointment at noon. I'd rather early or late, but he is in high demand, so I take whatever appointment I can get. And it's noon. Otherwise, it's sew, sew, sew.

JANA - I did get those diamond in rectangles mastered! I have 20 done and they are purrfect. Only 38 left to go then I can start assembling my Orca. That's funny, just when you get the shut-off valve handy, you don't need it! Hope your rain lets up soon.

BECKY - there you are!! I was thinking I'd have to send a search party. Glad you got out of town for a few days. I hope it was for a good reason . . Funny about your cousin on the cop show! I hope no one else recognized his voice!

BECCA - that's awful about the property dispute in your town! Needless! At least Vicki has no weapons unless you count her walking stick that she uses for balance. And Vicki's pre-Huntington's nature is gentle and kind, so hopefully somewhere in there that sweetness still lives. Glad you had such a good turnout for the charity quilt work. I know my DDIL loved doing that at their church, but I think her group disbanded.

IRISH - glad you are getting out and catching some rays! I know your yard is pretty and I bet your sprucing it up is making it even prettier! Sorry about your Penguins, though. But like you said, next year is coming!

PAM - that's a good 'game' to play with the little ones who aren't enthralled with your menu choices. We used to let our kids trade their 'don't wants' in on something else in that food group, too. Lara hated peas (still does) so she ate extra salad. And everyone was allowed a few 'heartily dislikes'.

TINA - where have you gotten to??

CHICKIE - how is Doyal doing? And you with your dental work? I suspect dinners at your house are rather uninspiring this week. Hope everyone is feeling better soon.

LINDA - how did the camping prospects look? Did your DH's cabinets arrive yet?

Last night's supper was good (I thought). I think Bill liked it. He rarely comments, but he scarfed it all down pretty quickly. I tossed diced leftover chicken, rice, onion, garlic, mushrooms, olives, green chilies, peas, capers, and a bit of cayenne with Cr of Chix soup, sour cream, and dijon mustard. Topped with shredded cheese and baked for 40 min. And there's more for tonite! The spinach is gone but we still have fresh tomatoes to slice. I think this will clean out the fridge and we can start over again.

What's the story at your house?

Good morning! Guess who didn’t make it to the table yesterday… I was at the computer when DH arrived early from coffee, and I never made it back… We are warm and windy with storms in the forecast tonight or tomorrow. Hope we don’t have (much/any) damage.

Mary—I want to make a storm at sea quilt, and I want to make a snail’s trail quilt. I love that your orca quilt uses both blocks! Best of both quilts!!! Are you paper piecing the diamond in a triangle?

Pam—I like your food game. I found that if I said it was “grown up” food and they couldn’t have any… they WANTED it! The only thing she never (still) would eat is liver. The babysitter made a big noon meal, and she called it “steak liver” (liver in hushed tone). Still didn’t get DD to try/eat it. She skipped favorite desserts so she didn’t have to eat it. When I fixed it at home, she got bacon, and I did the liver and onions in the bacon grease—no artery clogging stuff there, but I got my iron fix.

Becky—It’s always nice to get away. Glad to hear the aunt is better! How funny about your cousin “live” on the show! He better be careful with the laugh!

Irish—Remind me not to complain about heat here, either! I got sick of winter. Sorry about the Penguins! I need to work outside, too.

Becca—We were almost 78 yesterday. We are having soft foods here, but I’m still going for my salad. Hard, but I’m having them! DH is enjoying his quiches, egg salads, some fish, mini baked potato, cottage cheese, yogurt… He’s gaining some energy back now, too. I was getting kinda concerned.

Jana—I know what you mean about clambering through everything to get to the hose faucets. I do it here.

Congrats to Pam and Linda!

I have lots of Baltimore orioles here. They are flashing neon orange in the sun and even make the cardinals look dull. I was in my sewing room yesterday watching the bird show including my hummers. I’m making some kitchen towels with sunflowers and potholders with sunflowers for DD to give DGD at the shower this weekend.

I go back to the dentist next Monday. Won’t be finished—just a “try on”. I’m not sure how long it will take.

I can tell if DH likes something… when he ate seconds. Of course, now… no seconds. These tiny portions are like a tapas bar! They are really cute! (I’m not losing…)

Now… time for yoga! I’ve been over and let Choc out, and the mats are waiting for me. I figured I’d come see you all first today, then I’d do my practice.

Dinner—soup (me), something little for DH. Boring here, but I’m trying to make a variety of good little dishes. It looks like a tapas bar with tiny plates.

Bon appétit!

P.S. This may be disjointed as I lost some stuff and moved some stuff accidentally. Sometimes my computer has a mind of its own, or I mess up...

Morning all:

Temp has dropped out of the 90's back into the 60's and 70's with clouds. No rain on the valley floor but the mountains are supposed to get a snow dusting and rain. Keeps us from going camping. This cooler weather allows me to get out earlier, when I have all my energy, to do the yardwork or a walk.

The last couple days I have been cleaning house in preparation for my TLQ (Tender Loving Quilters) group yesterday. I am glad it was my turn to host because my garden was at its best, everything blooming and green. I even washed windows now that the rains are gone for the next 6 months (I hope!). And the best part is...I won't have to deep clean house now for a while.

The birdies are between nests right now and trying to permanently wean off their kids. The babies have stopped squeaking and following the parents all over the place. So we shall see where they nest for the next cycle. The birdbath is a busy place and I have scrub it out everyday. They bathe in it, then sit on the edge looking out and poop in it. Speaking of poop, DH has been successful in detering the cat. He made a spray of essential oils, lavender and orange and every night he sprays under the roses and spots the cat likes. No cat so far. We live on a corner and people love to walk their dogs on our corner. So we are a target for dog poop on the lawn. Most older folks are good about picking it up. But this one young kid never picks it up and he has a big dog. The other day I saw him letting his dog do his thing in the middle of our lawn and I banged on the window, then went outside and nicely asked him if he was going to pick it up. He just shrugged his shoulders. So I went and got him a plastic bag and showed him how to put his hand into the bag, then pick it up. I thought he was going to barf but he had to learn his lesson. I gently told him that good dog owners are responsible for everything their dog leaves behind. He actually thanked me as he left. Haven't seen him back this way yet! Was I too harsh making him pick it up?

Not much else on the books for this week, regular dental cleaning and a trip to Fresno for things. Haven't been able to sew for several days and I am so itching to get in there and work on the 3 quilts I have going.

You all have a wonderful week, can't believe it is May already! I, too, learned the Maypole dance and put flowers on peoples doorsteps as a youngster for May. As always, prayers for all those in need.

**Linda

Hello, everybody. I have an appointment at five, so dinner will be something easy. I still have some tortillas left, so am leaning towards quesadillas and fresh pineapple.

It is again a sunny day. Yesterday evening, Dan picked up sticks and I went to Mom's to work on my dog project. My brother loaned me a chain saw, so now we have two. Dan and I are going to figure out how to use them and clean up our trees. Maybe this weekend.
