Good morning,

I'm here this morning! And I've had a cup of coffee and going for a second in a moment. I must have been really groggy yesterday! Though while I was posting, Bill was talking to me about something and I kept having to get up. I guess I lost my place... lol! (blame it on the husband, right?!)

Yesterday I put binding on a quilt, cleaned up that mess, did a few errands, and ended up at the big sale at my LQS. I picked up a few batiks and a pattern booklet. I wasn't TOO bad. When I got home I sat down on our deck with a cold drink - OK, it was a beer - and wrote out all our Vicki experiences in the past two years. Bill is going to upload all the photos we've taken in that time of things she's done to Costco and finally get them printed. We actually do have a file we keep but we'll add this info to it. Just in case it's ever needed. All this took most of the afternoon.

Today I think I'll start pulling some fabrics for my Orca at Sea quilt by Marie Noah. I want to see just what I have while the sale is going on at the LQS. I might need more . .

JANA - that's so nice that your kids do those big yard jobs for you. Once, when we were gone for three months, our kids did send us a photo once of how bad our yard looked! lol! And what a nice surprise to see your niece. Which border does she live on? AZ borders CA, NM, NV, UT, and Mexico. You have a LOT of nieces and nephews! I have 17. I think I have 24 greats and I've lost track of the generation after that because I don't see them.

BECCA - I bet your family on Hood Canal is enjoying this weather. It's so pretty where they live and the water is so blue - in good weather. Love your beans over rice menu. Maybe that's what will happen here tonnite . .

BECKY - the girls dresses sound like fairy tale dresses! Would love to see them all dressed up! haha about men grilling. I think it's the same almost everywhere. They are so proud that 'they' are doing the cooking to give us women a night off. And I think we're working even harder in the kitchen prepping everything! and cleaning up.

PAM, nice of you to take care of your aunt Stella, but I imagine it can get old. I need to do the same thing in my closet - ditch a lot of things. but some are so pretty and I love them! Just never wear them.

IRISH - you come home today, I believe! You probably won't see this, but welcome home! We missed you and we hope you have a really nice time in FL visiting your friend.

CHICKIE - Nice to have a tasty meal delivered to you! My DBIL, Al, cooks, too, though he has a limited repertoir. (my spelling is getting really bad!) He makes enough spaghetti or meatloaf to feed them for an entire week. So my sis freezes leftovers a lot. When can Doyal start eating some 'real' food again?

Supper tonite: I have one thick cooked pork chop left over. I could dice it up and make pork fried rice. Or save it for tomorrow and do the beans and rice thing. Whatever I make spinach will be on the side, probably saute'd in garlic. Gotta eat it up. Or maybe a spinach chef's salad with bacon and boiled egg and . . . That will probably be it.

Whew! got it all worked out now. What are YOU working out for tonite?

Good morning!

Mary - I always npknew you were a wise and smart person. Documenting the escapades is a good thing!

Lila is off the light now. Doing great. Time to get my hands on her again. Being the in law, I let Kate's mom be around.

Dinner - humm ... clean out the leftovers! My fridge is quite full!

Now when it comes to grilling - Aaron does it all - makes his own rub, doctors the sauce and smokes or grills the meat. He smokes pork belly to make bacon - oh it is yummy! He even cleans up too! The other day he smoked a pork butt roast and brought some over to us. I have great kids! Aaron is teaching Matt how to smoke as well.

Enjoy!
Jana

Good morning! I’m late—yoga practice, then my sister called. I also spent time filling all the bird feeders and putting out new hummer food. I have hummers, orchard orioles and Baltimore orioles in addition to all the cardinals, titmice, and the other little birds that stay the winter. My back deck is a busy place!

Yesterday we found a few mushrooms, and I had them with fresh asparagus. I was in heaven! We are raining today and 20+ degrees cooler than the 74 degrees yesterday. I even got pink on my shoulders from a scoop-necked shirt!

“Real” food here won’t be for several weeks. After Friday, it will be 2 weeks of pureed food, then soft foods added for a couple of weeks, then… “real” stuff. Since I’m having a bunch more dental work done, I’m kind of on soft stuff, too. We’ll eat the same next week, but I can eat more at a time. I will do my best to eat what he does.

Pam—you are good to look after your aunt. I need to purge my closet, too. A goal is good. I have the bag in there…

Irish—Wow! Home again! Know you had a wonderful time—welcome back to the table!

Dinner tonight—I have lots of asparagus! I’m not complaining… YUMMMMM!!!

Bon appétit!

Morning everyone:

Schedules have changed due to the weather. Used to be that I didn't get outside until after lunch, too cold. The last 3 days we have hit 95 so it is early out. The garden has taken off so the routine of trimming the groundcover, deadheading the roses and pulling weeds begins. This year I find it is harder on the body, all the up and down.

Also, the strawberries are in so I have spent 3 days dehydrating flats of berries. There are 12 baskets in a flat, plus they load up the top of the flat. I have made 3 quart jars of chips and 25 strips of leather. The prep for one flat takes 2 hours and it seems a lot of work for 1 quart, but the results are worth it. Besides, I have all this time now!

DH has been happily working on his projects. He announced yesterday that it was "moving" day. He gathered all his boxed tools that he has stored on the floors of our closets and moved them into his shop. Now he knows what he has, as well as it is in easy reach. And I have room to store other stuff in the closets...like fabric! LOL.

Saturday DH got cabin fever and we took off for the mountains, just to see what the weather looked like...camping soon? There was snow on the north side of things but the temp was 59 so I think we can start planning our first trip. When DH gets the bug we will bring the RV home and get it all ready for the season. "The mountains are calling and I must go" will soon be DH's mantra.

Another benefit of the new sun room....DH is not a morning person and can be quite grumpy for several hours. Now that we are "taking coffee in the solarium" and watching the birdies each morning I find his mood is much better, and then the whole day is better.

My dress story to match all your stories:
I made my senior prom dress. It was red velvet simple sleeveless top on a floor length bell white brocade skirt with a red bow and tails in back. I even made a long slip for it. However, I had never worn this long of a skirt before and did not know how to walk in one. At the venue of the prom, one had to climb up the grand staircase to enter the hall. So I started up. I only pulled the front of my skirt up and continued walking, not realizing I was walking out of my slip and it was trailing behind. Such mortification when I saw my slip trailing the steps behind me. I had to walk backwards down the stairs pulling the slip back up. Later I went to the bathroom and forgot to lift up the tails of the bow in back. Where did they fall? In the toilet of course...wet tails for the rest of the evening. To add to my woes, my date had spilled cocktail sauce on his white ruffled tux shirt during dinner and looked like he had a chest wound the rest of the night. And, of course, at 18, those were the worst things that could happen to you!

Dinner tonight is DH's great spaghetti sauce and salad. We have been eating lots of frozen left overs from the freezer this week trying to clean it out. The benefit is the stove had stayed cleaner that it usually does and I have actually been able to go 2 weeks without a full cleanup. Monday we were worried because the power went out about 6 pm and didn't come on again until 11 pm. Fortunately we have enough flashlights and candles to be able to shower and read. Early to bed!

Happy Spring to you all, enjoy it while you can. We are always ahead of you so we are saying good bye to Spring and Hello Summer. Pool won't be warm enough for me until end of May.

I didn't get my two bags, last night. Maybe tonight.

For supper, I am thinking about making up a new dish. It is a mashed potato/cheesecake/quiche. Then, maybe some broccoli salad with it.

It is drizzly, today. The big dog doesn't like it, because she has to get her feet wiped, when she comes back in.

Have a great day, everybody.

Linda, those strawberries sound yummy. Do you freeze any? I love strawberry freezer jam.

Becca and Linda, I love spaghetti. DH has decided he now has a thing about long noodles. They are too messy. So, when I serve fettuchini or linguini or spaghetti, I cut his into 3 inch pieces. lol, silly guy.

Chickie, I love asparagus. There is a farm near me. I had a patch a few years ago, but the groundhog ate the roots. It should be ready in about three weeks, or so.

Mary, I have some awesome dresses from the nineties that will never come back in style. And incentive clothes that didn't work. And I don't know what all is in there. A bunch of Grandma's aprons to maybe make a quilt out of....
