SUPPER CLUB - Monday, Feb 19th
Good morning!
We're still having wind here. Lots of small branches down all over the yard. Going to be a lot of work picking them all up when the weather improves. And there seems to be no sign of that happening for some time to come.
My sis changed her arrival date again. This is about the 7th time now with 3 times being in the last 4 days! I'm trying to plan a nice dinner for when they arrive (homemade chili and cornbread), keep the house clean, and my company energy level up. At this rate they will be met with PB&J's for supper, cat hair on the chairs, and a grouchy, pj-clad grump! This is funny because when WE visit THEM, she insists on knowing the exact minute we plan to arrive! And calls us hourly to see where we are! lol!
I finished my big counted X-stitch last night so may go frame-shopping today. It has beads on it so it might not go into a regular frame. I might have to use a shadow box. It's 14x16 inches.
Since I'm now between sewing projects, and my next one is a large, complicated, bargello for my DGS, I don't really want to get into it just as company arrives for a month's stay. Besides, my sewing room is all clean right now. But I may spend some time squaring up swap blocks. I have plenty to choose from! As for hand work, I have hexies I'm working on as well as those hand embroidered state bird/flower blocks. I have 10 done so far.
IRISH - I didn't know you were planning to go to Texas! Wonderful!! Wave to Austin while you are there! And if you actually get to Austin and want to see some of the highlights, may I suggest the Laura Bush Library in the SW part of the city. I hear the library manager is a sweetheart who, I'm sure, misses her mama terribly! ;o) Are you over your cold? Your sister's surgery came up quickly! Give her a hug for me and tell her I said a prayer special for her. What is her name? I can't keep calling her "Irish's Sister". If you told me, I've forgotten. My sister is June, though she'll come at you with teeth bared if you call her that. She prefers to be called 'Tina'. It makes her feel tiny again. lol!
BECCA - your place sounds nice and quiet. My kind of place! I love here, but it's getting crowded. I live on what used to be a quiet county road, and there was woods all around when I bought this property 32 years ago. There was no one but Vicki and us. And now there's no woods, but about 400 big homes in developments, all within 1/2 mile, and no open space except for Vicki's and our properties which totals 5 acres. No more wildlife either.
BECKY - your hubby sounds like he can be a kick! Certainly rolls well with the punches. I'm sorry about your migraine. I had just one once, about 35 years ago and I still remember that headache. So you certainly have my pity! What does your DD do? Was she IN a bus accident or does she just attend them?
I WAS planning on putting a batch of homemade chili into the crockpot for my sis and DBIL for tonite. But since they said now they plan to spend one more night on the road, that will be for tomorrow and I'm not sure what to have for tonite. Maybe tacos? Homemade pizza? Tomato soup and grilled cheese? I'm trying to think of something that would feed them, too, if they change their minds again and roll in tonite. They are only 500 miles (8 driving hours) away.
I hope your supper is easier to figure out than ours!

Maryz Everyone That comes here comments on how quiet & peaceful it is.Thats one reason among many that we hate to think about moving. And we love it after 36 yrs here.
Your DS sounds like she must be on top of things .By knowing the minute you get there.lol My DD is very good to let us know when she leaves & when she’s about 25 miles from our house.
We see lots of wild life still .The development behind our Mtn. Has mostly summer people that only come for a wk or so.Semms that’s the way most places are now with houses where farms or fields or woods used to be.
Becky Glad DH will roll with the punches.Makes it much easier on you.My DD has had migraines for years. They are really bad .Sorry you had one.
Jana I know your little Gracie was a doll in her dress. We Have a couple of princesses in our family too.lol
Chickie Hope your wkend was a good one with all your animals & Mom & your BF.
Tina Sure hope you squeezed in a nap.
Irish So glad you get to attend DGSs Graduation from Basic. We attended our DGSs in GA.Thats a Big achievement for him.Hope you are feeling better.
Vel Sure you’re sewing away.
We did get work done on driveway yesterday bec we knew it was calling for rain this wk.DS is going to rebuild our structure to keep water in ditch.Looks much better now.Tree limbs were everywhere & 2 Mtn laurel fell in ditch with the roots & dirt attached. Our Neighbor come by & said you shouldn’t be doing that .DH asked him who would do it.He just sat on his motorcycle.UGHWe use the drive less than anyone.Enough of that.Sorry. ,!
Just finished riding my exercise bike bec it’s too wet to walk. Our meal will be turkey sausage.Roasted asparagus,& DH baked potato. He has his brownies. Becca

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Monday, Feb 19th
Here I am! Good morning from the very windy plains. Guess we are having similar weather to Mary. We are also having light rain. BUT, it’s warm! We are in the 60s today and going for stormy today and tomorrow, then dropping to a high of 35 on Wednesday. I’m really SICK of the roller coaster! I also have Choc and Maggie from this morning to tomorrow night. Of course, there’s always Ava at noon.
I finished the calligraphy on the invitations—200 plus. DH took them over and gave them to DGD yesterday when he was going to have DS look at his car. I never heard from DGD one way or the other—like or ugh. Oh well.
Mom was good on Saturday. I brought her place mats home to quilt and bind. She is making them for her pastor. DS and DGD came, and we had lunch with Mom. Then they came out to the farm. DS brought her Featherweight, and I schooled her on it once again, and this time she shortened a pair of sleep pants for her DH all by herself. I’m proud of her for finally getting an interest. She didn’t have a good foundation (any) in sewing at school.
Hate trying to plan on company when their dates change! I know you will have freezer dishes ready to pull. That’s so funny about her changing on you and expecting you to be on time and date. I definitely know how it is… things go that way with relatives here, too. Congratulations on finishing your cross stitch! I know that’s a major job!
I’m planning to work on Mom’s placemats today, then I’ll get back to doing the ones for DGD’s shower—no date yet for that.
Becca—I think North Carolina is so pretty, especially the mountains—oh, and the ocean!!! That’s pretty much all of it! I could never live in the city again. I love the country. We saw several deer across the pond yesterday morning.
Speaking of deer… and calves. I assessed the calf damage to my flowers. They did a number on my coral bells—some fatal. I’m not totally sure about the hostas, either. I purchased a few hosta roots and also a couple of bleeding heart roots and a few lily of the valley roots. I planted 2 hostas and a bleeding heart yesterday—hope it’s not too early! Yesterday was nice, and I spent much of the day outside in between laundry and cooking. The calves were all around for food, and I had all three in the pen together with feed and hay. I think little Blondie still got enough, but Pocket Lint and Annie are more piggish than calve-ish.
My helper yesterday at yoga was Boomer again. He was underneath me when I was doing downward dog and some other poses. He didn’t “help” today.
Dinner tonight… yum! Tacos sound good! I have faux pho made for me, but I think I could pass on it and do tacos. I can have soup for brunch. DH also has brownies. We had asparagus last night, and I have the stalks in my soup.
I hope to be able to walk to do the dogs today between showers. Between dog duties, I hope to be in my sewing room!
Bon appétit!

PS--Mary--if you use a mat with your cross stitch, can you get enough elevation to fit the beads? Maybe a double mat?

Good morning!
Mary - cingrats on finishing the cross stitch! There are tricks to framing such, so I will ask Sarah. She and her DH worked in a high end framing shop in California and she learned many ways.
Becca - keeping the drainage open is a good thing. Many times during the pouring down rain, Michael and the boys would be out in it clearing to keep the way away from my old house.
Chickie - watch out, the wind you got, was here yesterday and then we received the snow! About 8 inches so far.
Dinner - humm - the go to here - soup!
Enjoy,
Jana

Good afternoon ladies.
Sounds like you all are busy today.
Mary, my DD is one of the supervisors for city transit. She is usually one of the mop up guys when there is an accident. Some of the ones that rode together to the seminar were just getting into town when they were notified of the accident.
Don't you just hate that when they don't even acknowledge it, Miriam? I try to make sure my grands do it, but even then, I don't believe they would if they weren't reminded ( or hounded)...
I have had migraines off and on for many years. They are much less the past 20 years or so, but when I get one, usually a doozie. But it is almost back to normal now.
Kids did survive Poppa cooking for them. But, as poppa said, it was hot dogs and box mac and cheese. I asked if there was no veggie, and he said, I cook, my choice. Alrighty then! I will remember that in the days to come....
Tonight, DD is taking the baby brats to get hair cuts after work, so she said she would feed them while they are out. That leave us with whatever we feel like, I guess. Well, JR is rather limited. The kids think it is a hoot that I bought him baby food.
Enjoy your company Mary. I would love to see NC. I'll bet it is very pretty.
You all have a nice evening. Sounds like rain here, and yes, we do have Jana & Chickie's wind also.....Becky
