Psalm 143
Why do we often feel that the flow of living water has been extinguished and the vitality of our faith has vanished? We plead with the psalmist that God would hear our supplications because it seems our prayers are just empty, perfunctory words that don't get past the ceiling. We have all been there from time to time. So what is the solution?
First, we should recognize our sinful nature. Perhaps Satan, the accuser, has put us on a guilt trip; our enemy delights in crushing our spirit, robbing us of the peace and joy God has given us in Christ and leading us into dark times of doubt. The last thing we want is for God to judge us, for we have no merit whatsoever. We come to Him in honesty, confessing and acknowledging what we feel, confident He will respond based on His faithfulness and His righteousness.
Second, we should "remember the days of old". Think about when God has worked in our lives before; recall how He has blessed and reached out to us, proving His power and faithfulness in the past.
Finally, in vs 8-12 we come to a sequence of requests that outline the solution to our dilemma of feeling dry spiritually and separated from God. We should focus our thoughts on the Lord each morning and begin the day with these appeals but with a commitment to fulfill the condition that is a contingency for each one.
Please keep our state in your prayers with the recent School shooting. Benton is just 30 minutes from Paducah for those of you who have been there. It is a very small community, one that needs our prayers at this time.
Hugs and prayers
