SUPPER CLUB - Saturday, Dec 30

Post by purrfect-lady » Sat Dec 30, 2017 3:27 am

Good morning!

We warmed up to 50* yesterday but it absolutely poured rain so there was no going outside to enjoy it. We should be about 44* and dry now for the next week or so. Not bad for January.

We got all of Christmas stuffed back into its boxes and put back into the storage cubby under the stairs. Bill got those lights installed so now there's great lighting in there so no more trying to crawl around on hands and knees holding a flashlight, looking for something specific. Today - a few uglies and a LOT of laundry. And I'll be working on getting ready to post my very first ever swap. And it will have a Valentine theme.

To let you all know, Tina's mom passed away yesterday afternoon. I haven't talked to her yet. Her family was together through the day, I believe.

JANA - If the worst mistake you ever make quilting is choosing a thread that, in the end, you don't like, then I call you a wildly successful quilter! As long as Michael likes it! And what's happening with your JN quilt? Did you finish it? Or did it get set aside in favor of Christmas sewing?

BECCA - it sounds like you have many loving memories of your DB to keep him alive for you. As do I for my brother. Jim taught me to swim, carried me over a creek once, high on his shoulders, taught me to drive his Jeep, was by my side every moment through the most difficult times of my life. Where would we have been without our big brothers. We could write books of our memories.

IRISH - the fun never stops at your house, does it! I hope there's nothing electrical in your basement of water . . . Glad Terry and NIck were able to help with clean-up. Our news keeps talking about your weather. Bet you're glad you don't live in Erie! You know, as honorary Eagle Grammas I think we should get to name the babies, at least for ourselves. Something festive since they were 'born' at Christmas time. Like Jingle and Rudolph. Or Holly & Ivy. Or???

VELDA - I had five pairs of boots for dancing. They were all so comfortable! I wore my ivory ones when Bill and I got married. and then we danced!

I think tonite we're going to have that sauerkraut and sausage I mentioned earlier in the week. I can put it in the crockpot and forget it. Unless, like he did a few days ago, Bill puts in a special request. If he does, maybe he'll cook again! Nahh - it couldn't happen twice in the same lifetime. Could it??

Any ideas on what could happen in YOUR kitchen tonite?

Good morning ladies.
Prayers for Tina and family. Sure do feel for them, and for you Becca. Hugs to you.
It is cold, cold here. On of our patio doors is frozen shut. My DD's boxer really doesn't like going in or out any other door. Guess he will learn this week! Shannon said that she had to shove him out the laundry room door, although, she said not much coaxing to get him back in. Ha, maybe he is a fast learner.
Today, my DGD requested chicken alfredo, so maybe a salad and garlic toast and that will be our dinner.
Stay warm all. Becky

Thank you Mary for letting us know about Tina's mom. I didn't sleep well last and kept waking up thinking about both Tina and Becca too. Of course I said a prayer for them each time. But that also brought back a flood of memories of my own family members no longer here on earth.

Tina, so sorry to hear about the loss of your mom. Our moms are so special in our lives. One of the first people to see us when we are born. That loving bond lasts a lifetime. Keep her memories alive in your heart. No one can take those memories away. Celebrate her life and tell the little ones about her too. Share your grief with others but also share the happy memories before she became so ill. May God bless you and your family with comfort and peace as you face the days ahead. Love and hugs to you today.

Becca, So sorry about the loss of your brother. Brothers are so special in our lives too. Do celebrate his life and pass along the stories to the little ones so he will not be forgotten in their lives either. Share both the grief and the happy memories with one another. Life is hard and it doesn't get any easier as we age and begin to lose our loved ones due to age or illness. God bless you and your family today too and bring you all comfort and peace as you go thru the days ahead. Love and hugs to you today too.

As for supper tonight, Rod is working on it. He was up part of the night smoking an 8 lb pork butt for pulled pork sandwiches for our family tonight. He got up early, before me, took off smoker, and pulled it so only needs to be heated and ready for supper tonight.

Rod will smoke ribs this afternoon, our son's favorite. Our son is about to be deployed so we have had lots of last min get togethers the past few weeks. No idea how long he will be gone but know it will be at least months.

Rod is also making a huge dish of macaroni salad. Everyone loves that stuff. And putting baked beans in smoker too to give it a more bbq smokey flavor. He uses the canned stuff to save time but soooo good.

Sorry I don't post often. So many trips to ER etc for Rod lately with his back and other things. We both have had some kind of virus going around too. praying the new year will be a healthier one for both of us.

God bless you all today and all your tomorrows too. Happy New Year if I don't get back on here before then. I so enjoy reading about everyones lives and meals etc but find myself in tears over some of the recent family losses. So many memories this time of yr.

Hugs and love to all, Shirley Mae (& Rod and the kittycats too)

Morning everyone:

Hugs and prayers for those who have recently lost loved ones. We have all been through this, so we can share your grief.

Not much doing the past several days. Just taking down Christmas things, the clean up afterwards. We have had no rain for 2 months, gets to 60 each day, air quality is in the red zone so my allergies are awful. Where is winter? After reading about some of your temps, I guess I should count myself blessed.

Since everything is at a growing standstill, I haven't been outside much. I need to get more exercise so will have to make my annual resolution of getting out and walking or on the elliptical.

Finished the QOV quilt for my brother and the dog and cat quilt for my BFF (look over in photos) so now I can start a new quilt. Decided to go for the BOM quilt I collected several years ago for my God Daughter. It is full of little pieces so this will be ongoing for a year. It is very important to sew a consistent 1/4" seam, so I am trying to be very careful. I am using Annie, my 15-91 Singer that I restored, because she makes the best seam and has a little presser foot for all those little pieces. I love having all this time to sew.
I may even allow myself a second project when I get tired of little pieces.

Dinner tonight is DH trying to figure out the Colonel's spice recipe for his fried chicken, mashed potatoes and a salad. Dessert is the pumpkin cream cheese roll I made and froze for Christmas.

Well, off to do a little laundry, water all my violets, vacuum the rugs, then play. You all have a wonderful day.

Good afternoon!

My prayers and love go out to Tina. Such a difficult time with these decisions.

Mary - not only was the thread wrong, I went way out of my comfort zone with the quilting. Gracie would have done it better!

Dinner is leftovers, soup or broccoli polksa kiebasa one pot meal. Pizza will be tomorrow - homemade.

We are having the January birthday party early, as Stu heads back to school for classes starting on the 3rd. There are Ethan, Daniel, Stu and Emma this month.

Went and found my Christmas present, the toilet I want. Michael was laughing at me being fussy over which one. He needs to take the truck back to get it, as it is a bigger box than will fit in the Highlander. Probably will buy two and replace the piece of junk, another word came to mind, in the master bathroom. That toilet has been a headache since we moved in. Also found a vanity and a sink for the Batt Cave bathroom. Space is a premium under the stairs where this is all going.

We are having a heat wave here, the temps have risen into the 50's. But another short storm is coming in. The snow in the ski areas is terrible too.

Enjoy,
Jana

Good late afternoon from the tundra! We are cold, we are snow covered and most of us as nasty! Of course the feline members of the family don't seem to mind...The girls didn't come down for breakfast until close to noon and then it was right back upstairs to their warm beds...Even outside Jake didn't want to come out of his "cat house" but then I can't blame him...I wish I had made his house big enough for him to have a inside potty, lol....

Mary, I'd take your temps even with the rain, lol...It does seem, we have a lot of water woes, doesn't it but really not that bad...The floor is cement and I don't have carpet down there any longer so, it's OK, but a unnecessary mess.....
You'll love this one..Nick called and asked if he could bring Scout down for the evening...They had people coming over to watch the Penguins and Scout didn't like giving up his spot on the couch, I guess...Well, Scout came to visit and stayed until midnight..Wish they had brought his food and bed and he could have stayed...Maybe next time...

Tina and Becca, I think what ShirleyMae wrote is beautiful and what most of us feel... We all are with you and keeping you all in our prayers......

Not doing much today and NOT enjoying the snow....Trying to catch up on some uglies and have most of the Christmas stuff put away or back on the porch for Nick to carry to the shed...Doing the laundry and then want to run the vacuum and that's it!
For my dinner, I finally made that soup and it's so darn good (even if I do have to say so myself)....So, I'll be having soup and maybe a left over cookie...........

You all have a good rest of the day.....Stay warm and safe...

Happy eating...............

Eagles:
I agree about naming the eaglets and most of the viewers agree also....Normally, the 1st one born is female, so how about Merry and for the 2nd, Jingles......

Maryz, OMG, ivory boots, bet they are gorgeous! Do you still dance?
Something about boots are so comfortable.

Left over spaghetti, here. Using up all our goodies. Only a couple meals left in freezer.
Worked on applique quilt all afternoon. ;-)
Special prayers for Tina and Becca.
Keep all your great memories close to your heart. May you have comfort in those memories.
HUGS, 💕 Vel
