SUPPER CLUB - Monday, Dec 18th

Post by purrfect-lady » Mon Dec 18, 2017 3:39 am

Good morning!

We've got rain here. Enough rain to keep me off the walking trail this morning unless it lets up a lot! I'm a weather weenie.

It's been a quiet, but busy weekend here. Bill got 3 quilts quilted for me. He only has one more in the Quilting Queue. And I have nothing going on in the sewing room for him at the moment. This morning I'll bind the tree quilt for Albert so we can give it to him tomorrow. Then I have a chiropractor appointment, will go pick up our mail, and then come home and clean up the sewing room. I have 20 orange fabrics all gathered up to do a big bargello quilt for my DGS, Alec's, 21st birthday next July, but I'm not sure I'm ready to start another big quilt - 96". Once you start a bargello, there's no putting it away until it's done or you'll mix it all up. I want to cool my jets for a bit with something small. And I have a big list to choose from.

BECCA - how is your DH doing? He is worrying me. COPD + congestion + inactivity can = pneumonia or bronchitis, both serious illnesses, especially in elderly and/or chronically ill. Is he coughing much? You can do some chest physiotherapy on him that might loosen up his chest - he can sit up but it's better if he lays across the bed on his tummy, head hanging over the side a bit. You cup your hand and pat him all over his back. Much like burping a baby. It loosens the secretions so he can cough them up. But he REALLY needs to go to the doctor.

JANA - you are buzzing through all those gifts! How old is little Baden now? Seems like he should be only 6 months, but with the way your family grows, I'm guessing he's coming up on 2? If he's getting a bathrobe, I guess he's at least walking!

IRISH - So - did you give away your supper last night? And you are right - every family/person has a story. Sometimes when I'm people-watching, I try to imagine what their stories might be. You have such a nice post office! Ours was that way when I was little. My parents once got a card addressed to "Fred, Marie, & Girls". But no more. I haven't seen that new stamp yet but will look for it. One day they will figure out Alzheimers.

BECKY - Sounds like it might be time to start delegating some of those chores at your house! At age 10, I introduced each of my kids to the couple who lived downstairs, The Maytags. and from then on, they were responsible for their own clothes and one household chore which they got to choose (dishes, trash, bathrooms, vacuuming, etc). They still had time for school, activities, friends, and so did I!

TINA - did you get all your shopping finished this weekend? Wrapping? Quilts?

CHICKIE - how is your uncle's quilt coming along?

LINDA - I hope you're not missing any suppers!

I don't have a supper plan at the moment. But I do have a lot of veggies ans some boiled eggs, frozen peas, kidney beans, etc., so maybe chef's salad will be the featured entree tonite.

What's your supper plan?

Good Monday Morning! I’ve been feeding calves and cows. Pocket Lint and Blackie have been coming for sweet feed, and then the cows see them and come for range cubes. Annie and Blondie get bottles and sweet feed. Mornings are busy! One day this week… Saturday, I think… DH left the gate open when he had a wood customer and forgot to shut it. We had Blondie and Annie out in the pasture, Pocket Lint, Blackie and some of the cows in the yard! Everything is always topsy turvy here, and the end result—lots of obstacles in the yard and drive way! … the kind you do not want to step in!!!

I’m off Choc and Maggie duty for a few days after all weekend, but we do have Ava back again (they were on vacation last week). I need a schedule book just for dog duty!

And, I’ve been busy sewing away on my comfort quilt. I wish I were as quick as Mary… Good news, I’m on the last two sets of borders, then I’ll be sandwiching…

Saturday I had lunch with Mom and did my last grocery shopping (I think) before Christmas cooking. I also baked cookies for DGS. He didn’t want one with decorations (age 19—don’t know how that happened!), but he wanted lots of chocolate chip cookies. The hooligans and I loaded in my truck yesterday afternoon and met Shelly halfway between us at a convenience store, had sodas, visited a bit and then turned around. We took care of Choc and Maggie on the way back.

We are gloomy here today. I plan to sew except when the hooligans and I walk down to see Ava!

Becca—love all your packages arriving! You and your DGS can check on each other’s packages today! I hope your DH is sleeping and healing. I want ginger snaps, too!!!

Jana—I’m sure the dusting of snow makes you think of Christmas! If you finish with your preparations early, you can start on mine! I’ve given up on mine this year and am concentrating on the comfort quilt.

Irish—Always nice to have someone help with your shopping! I hope you got some roast! Nothing like roast beef sandwiches later… I will have to check out the stamp! My sister flips out that my favorite apparel store is Salvation Army and my undie store is Victoria’s Secret. I love the great clothes I get at SA! I guess that is only one of the reasons she’s the ex-. I wish our PO were more friendly…

Becky—our laundry never ends, and there are only two of us. I’ve all but given up on cards this year, too. I think your menu sounds perfect!

Mary—I can’t believe how fast you complete your tops! Your brother will love that quilt!!! Only one more quilt in the queue!!! Wow!!! I agree—a couple of small projects before starting the big bargello!

Dinner here will be a re-run of the ham fried rice for DH (we had pizza a couple of nights in between), and I’ll have an artichoke. Tomorrow I will have to cook… Hopefully I can spend the day sewing here.

Bon appétit!

Hello,Sun is peeking out so just maybe it will be a drier day.The Temp is warmer 40.

Maryz DH Slept most of day yesterday & seems to be not as congested. And his cough is better .With COPD he coughs too.I am thankful he is showing improvement. And he even did some business this morning on the phone,a big plus. Thanks for the info.He isn’t an easy patient to deal with.Of course with all his issues it’s not surprising.
He is on the couch today.

Jana Thanks for your comment on my family. They are all special to us just as yours is to you.I love hearing about your little ones.Your little Ethan is so much like our Keith was to us.Sure those robes will be nice.

Irish I didn’t know there were POs like that anymore. The one here is nice most of the time.Hope you got some roast beef.If you’re like me you don’t want much to eat.Hope Jim is having a good day.

Chickie I wish you had some of my gingersnaps. They aren’t as good this year but still good to me.You are one busy Farm Lady. Those pets must all love you & get excited to see you coming.

Becky I too would delegate some chore list. They are big enough to help you out.Cooking is a big chore when you have teens to fill.

We are getting another Gas tank to have on hand for power outages.Or May get a big one like we used to have. Its just a big headache when we have power outages bec they are heavy for either of us to lift.I can’t do it.We always try to get DS to do it when he’s here.

I hope to do my peanuts this afternoon & my crock pot candy.
DH isn’t interested in eating so I’ll try to come up with something to entice him.Have a great day to all. Becca
It’s decided egg salad.

Good morning :)
Wow, I had a busy weekend! I did finish my Christmas shopping unless I remember something else but I think I'm all done. I'll have to go to Wal-Mart Saturday for the last of my stuff I need for cooking for Christmas or I might go Friday :) Frankie only has 6 days of work left after today! We took our travel trailer yesterday for Kevin to stay in, it sure pulls nice. It was really dusty but he told me not to clean it, he spent yesterday evening wiping things down and getting all his stuff organized. I'll send him a text at his lunch time and see how everything went and meeting his new boss and crew too.
Mom is going to the Dr today, she's been saying for almost a week that she thinks she has pneumonia...I don't think she does because if she did I don't think she'd still be alive. She'sgoing through her nebulizer medicine twice as fast as she should be, they got her prescription filled 2 weeks ago but they already filled it again last week. ... maybe she's going through it 3 times as fast. ......
Oh I finished all the tops and I've quilted 1, hopefully I can get another one quilted this evening.
I'm not sure what I'm making for supper. ..

Good morning,

On pickup duty for Ethan, sewing like a crazy elf! Bright sunny and cold outside. Michael has his PT this morning, it is really helping.

We were looking for something in my butler's pantry, didn't find it, but found some of LFIL stuff Michael had just out in a box. We found gold! Well, somewhat gold. FIL had bought some of those coins advertised on TV as a investment that will soar with value. Turns out that they are one dollar coins, wrapped in a fancy termed paper that are worth exactly their face value. FIL was scammed into paying twice their face value. Oh how we wish we knew at the time he bought these investment coins and could have saved him some of his money. But that is past and we now have those dollars. Oh how I wish I could regulate and do something to those who scam and prey on old folks! I constantly watched out with my mom, as I had control of her funds, but FIL was very secretive with his money, so we were of no help. The two younger siblings scammed him out of most of his money, but that is a whole other tale, to the tune of a couple of hundred thousand.

OK enough soap box, dinner - Sarah cooked at my house last night, so we gave chicken and rice leftivers.

Enjoy!
Jana

Good Morning. I actually made it to the post here before noon! Well, dinner tonight is hubby's old military favorite with a much different name. "Blank on a shingle" :). I am making it with breakfast sausage and serving it on toast. He likes bisquits too, but toast for tonight.
Gosh, you are all so busy this time of year. Becca, hope your DH is feeling better.
You all seem to be getting ready for Christmas. I made my candy recipes yesterday plus tried a new one from a friend. It's called " pay day bars"
Similar to Pay Day candy bars.
One week till Christmas. Hard to believe it's almost here.

Good afternoon from a very gloomy (outside) but sunny (inside), SW. Pa...Yep, I've decided, might be a dreary day but I'm not going to let it dampen my spirits, lol...Just change the wattage in lamps, works every time.....

Mary, I can't imagine you being without a project or 2...Just doesn't seem right....I kind of made the mistake of stopping at our Family Dollar and picking up a couple Christmas cloths, which I'll cut and then crochet a topper on...AND then when I got home, realized, I have no red or green yarn but that will be taken care of later today....I will be stopping at the PO on my way to day, want to give her the quilted topper and a candle...She really is a special gal, very good friend..Your brother is going to be so pleased with that quilt..Praying for good results from the doctor....

Chickie, I have farm visions now and a good laugh at "watching where you step"...Remember those days so well...With our cows, it seemed they always found a way to escape, mostly during the night, not a happy memory, lol....

Becca, glad to hear DH is improving, even if it's just a little each day...I don't like to think "old" but more and more, I'm finding it's not for wimps...But, we gotta do what we gotta do and keep on plugging along....Have a good day......

Jana, You really did find gold, didn't you? I often wonder how the scammers sleep at night..And what's more frightening is, more and more older people are taken in by these jerks...Jim was always so trusting, if someone would have asked him for his SS number, I'm sure he would have given it..He just couldn't imagine anyone doing something bad like that...

It was another sleepless night here in the east and I'm not sure why...And me like a dummy, stayed right there, under that electric blanket instead of getting up and doing something, lol...But, then I had company, Baby Girl wasn't ready to get up either....I did send the roast beef home with Terry but I also kept a tiny piece for a sandwich...
Just trying to get some odds and ends finished and then do some baking, maybe tomorrow..I'll be leaving shortly to visit with Jim....But, I'll have lots to keep me busy while sitting in front of the boob tube (if I get the yarn)....Not even thinking about dinner, it might happen, it might not...There's always cereal.....

You all have a great day..........

Happy eating...............

Sorry for being MIA, this time of year gets busy for everyone, including me.

Got two quilts back from the longarmers and have been trying to finish the binding and getting them in the mail in time for Christmas. Only going to make it for my brother's QOV quilt. So rushed to get it to the PO today, I forgot to take a picture of it. The dog and cat one will have to wait. It is for a friend who is not expecting it anyway.

The cabinets and blinds got put in the sun room on Friday, completing that project. First thing I put in the cabinets were my cleaning and restoring supplies for the old Singers I work on. Have to claim my 1/2 of the space before DH fills it up. The blinds are the ones that stop the heat and sun, but are semi transparent so you can look out through them.

Our interior designer is coming out tomorrow to see what to look for, for our next reno project, DH's bathroom and his workshop/mancave. This will start sometime next year but we want to have all the fixtures and tile picked out and ready for the contractor. By now we know how this reno thing works and what to have ready and what can wait.

Yesterday I went to Fresno to visit my God Daughter and her family. They were visiting their uncle in Fresno and were finally close enough for me to go visit. They are Laotian and were living in Reedly 25 years ago when I was teaching Kindergarten. The father was a Methodist pastor for the local church. At that time he had 5 children and I began teaching them, starting with the oldest. Every year I had the next child. I became friends with this wonderful family and when their 6th child was due, I was asked to be her godmother and to give her her name. However, the family was transferred to a new parish before I could be her teacher. They seemed to be transferred about every two years to farther and farther away but I have kept in close contact with them. Now the father has become a hospital chaplain and hopefully will be stationary and is located in Stockton, and comes to Fresno often to visit family. So I went to see them for the first time in 7 years. There are now 10 children, 2 oldest (kids I taught) are in grad school, 3 more in college, god daughter is a junior, on down to the twins who are 2. They are such a godly, wonderful, intelligent family and I am blessed to be part of them. This is a pic of KhamDY (father), Janell (God Daughter), the twins.

The rest of this week is getting ready to go to Yosemite. So far no snow is predicted, so it won't be a hoped for winter wonderland. At least we will be able to hike more.

If I can't get back this week, you all have a wonderful and blessed Christmas. Prayers for safety of travelers and for those in need.

Oh yes, dinner is special tonight, clam chowder, salad and crab legs, apologies to Mary!

Hi all,
Every one is still busy, I see! I got most of my shopping done, just need to pick up a couple little things yet, along with a few groceries. Cards mailed this morning, so, all I need to do is wrap the stuff up. DH will help, just give him a stack and the name tags, and he is off!
Not to worry, kids do have chores, but on the laundry, I prefer to do that, so, they sometimes help fold, and they all put their own away. I have one that will help with prep work for meals, and one that sets the table, then they all help clear, and they all unload the dishwasher. There is just a lot with so many in the household.
My DGS said he is coming out for the weekend before Christmas, so with Ericka and Alex, and DD, they can help with the Christmas candy making. I guess it comes together or it just doesn't get done! Ha...
DD brought home Lee's chicken, so I am going to get a cup of hot tea and sit! Have a great evening...Becky
