SUPPER CLUB - Thursday, Dec 14th

Post by purrfect-lady » Thu Dec 14, 2017 3:59 am

Good morning!

Where were y'all last night?? You must have been lost in the crowd . . It was a great party! We did have one call in sick at the last minute, but her hubby came for a while. Otherwise, everyone showed up! We visited, sipped wine, then we all made a few trips through the buffet line, played Christmas trivia, and swapped white elephants. I think everyone had a nice time and went home with a nice bottle of wine from us. (Costco had a good sale this month!)

Today, not much cleanup from the party except empty the dishwasher, put away all our big Christmas serving dishes, and take down the big table. Then I can sew until about 1:30 when we leave for Elma, about 80 miles away. We're going to pick up a bolt of batting at the Warm factory and then meet Bill's sister and DBIL (Ed & Becky) for dinner at a nearby restaurant. We've had two weeks of chilly, but sunny weather so it will be a nice day for a drive.

CHICKIE - your luncheon menu sounded tasty! and substantial enough to carry your through the supper hour. And I'm so happy you found some flannel for your mom! We gotta keep her moving!

TINA - I have to say I'm relieved you do your bindings by machine. Four quilts, even small ones, would be a lot of hours of hand stitching! Your day yesterday was a crazy one! I hope your dr appointment was just routine . . .

LINDA - i bet you'll be glad to see the last of that quilt! You did an amazing job on it but some quilts are just like that. They haunt you. Like Irish, you'll probably throw away that pattern! lol! You are an orchid goddess! how do you do it? I was given 2 orchids last year and once the petals dropped off they looked like sticks and just sat there for months without change. I finally threw one away and gave the other one to a friend with a greenhouse. They don't like my dark, chilly house. I have so few places with good light for plants. Plus we travel for months at a time (though not this year) and I can't take plants with me so even the skimpy care I give them goes away when we do.

IRISH - I hope nothing big is wrong with your car. But nice to have a solid excuse to not go anywhere! You know, some mechanics will deliver your car to you . . . Just in case Terry can't make it you might ask them. I'm surprised you haven't succumbed to kitten antics and brought anyone home with you yet. You are a strong woman!! I pray your DBIL is OK.

BECCA - sorry to hear your hubby is still so ill! Is it the nasty flu our news is talking about? If he's asking for meat, he must be starting to feel better. But a tip - if he can't keep anything down - a teaspoon of room temp water every 15 minutes will give him enough fluids to get through the worst of it, yet it's not enough to trigger vomiting.

JANA - Oh, to be bested by 16 ounces of fluff! lol! Ethan is one of the smartest, cutest, talented, most loving kids I know! Even I'm proud of him! and I'm happy to say that I got to meet him! He may have been just a babe in arms, but he looked smart even then! Is the train that's going up THE train, or a Christmas train, like around the tree? Happy Star Wars to your family!

BECKY - Your pork roast sounds scrumptious. I love it with mashed potatoes, gravy, and homemade applesauce. You DID make the applesauce, didn't you??

Well, I have no idea what supper is going to be tonite. A big chef's salad would be the smart play. I don't usually play smart when confronted with a great menu, but we'll see . . .

How about you?

Good morning! We are going for cooler here today—about 40 or a little more for the high. It will be a brisk walk to see Choc and Maggie later. The rest of the trips I’ll drive.

Mary—of course, your party was a success! I was there in spirit! Have a fun trip today! Dinner out… NICE!

Linda—those JB quilts are awesome, but I’ve never tackled one. My sister used to grow orchids. I always think they are so beautiful and would love to try one sometime. I’m just thrilled my bougainvillea is blooming so much in my sun room. I truly live in the wrong growing zone for the flowers I like.

Irish—I hate car troubles! I do hope Terry can assist you! I’m with Mary—you are a strong woman to resist all those tuxedo cuties!

Jana—more Eathan antics! I can’t believe he can operate a camera like that—I can only figure out mine on auto, too.

Becky—I’d vote for fried apples with your pork roast or at least a jar of applesauce (from scratch is not always an option here).

Since I won’t be eating out and all the leftovers are gone… Mary is at a restaurant… I’m thinking perhaps some salmon cakes. I don’t make them often although I really like them. Grandma made the best! Still… I think I’ll fix them, some broccoli and rice. (Tomorrow night I can make fried rice.)

Meanwhile… sewing on my uncle’s comfort quilt. I will have the rows put together soon and can start on borders…

Enjoy! Bon appétit!

Good early afternoon from snowy, sunny, cold, SW. Pa...We only had about 2 inches of the white stuff and with the sun today, that is gone from the roads, thank goodness....

Mary, You were having so much fun (or too many sips, lol) last night, you missed us but that's OK, we'll be back....Sounds like you have a good day planned, batting and dinner out, doesn't get much better.....

Jana, I've never met Ethan but I knew he was extra special..But, then, all you have to do is think of the family...You know, every time I hear or see a train I think of you....Michael would have loved my late uncle...He had 2 rooms in their house with train, tracks, villages, anything and everything connected with trains..He was only "allowed" to do this at Christmas and we really looked forward to those holiday visits...Sadly, he passed away and my cousin had no interest in trains and probably gave them away or sold them at a flea market...Another uncle had been an engineer on the B&O so I'm thinking the younger uncle got the "train bug" honestly....

Chickie, I wish I could say that 60 degree weather moved this way but I think it went south...We're to be in the 20s, isn't that exciting??? Enjoy that "banned" dinner.....

Becca, glad to hear DH is feeling better....I did get my wheels back and that's really what the problem was, it needed new tires...But, while it was at the hospital, it got a good check up and now is purring like a brand new ride....Hope you have a good day.....

Well, now that I do have my wheels, I'm off and running...I need to pick up my RX and a few things at Walmart and then visit with Jim...If all goes well, no more snow and BIL is OK, I'll stop at my sister's and then we'll go to bingo...Either tonight or next Thursday will be the last week for bingo for a couple of months, which is OK by me.....

As for dinner, that might be up to my sister or we'll get something later.....I know when I get back home, there will be a piece of gingerbread waiting, so I won't go hungry.....
And tonight, (hopefully I'll be home in time) our Penguins are playing in Las Vegas, against the new team who just happens to have gotten Marc Andre Flurey, one of our best goalies, in the trade..I'm anxious to see him do well but not as good as our present goalie......

You all have a great day...........

Happy eating..................

Just a quick drive by for me, I sent money with DGD and her friend to grab something before the concert tonight, so DD said she would take the other two by Subway or somewhere before, just leave me and DH, so we will decide on leftovers or a quick drive by.
Winter concert and then middle school concert next Tuesday, and on Wednesday, they are out for the holidays....let the games begin, I guess. Have a great evening....Becky

I am late as usual. Dinner is over and dishes washed and put away.
We stuffed ourselves on leftover meatloaf. I made fresh taters and vegetables.
Yummy.
Tomorrow, I am making my husband's momma's chop suey recipe. Except I now use chicken breast instead of beef and/or pork.
Working on my quilt and also getting a start on the applique nightmare. LOL
