SUPPER CLUB Friday, December 8th

Post by purrfect-lady » Thu Dec 07, 2017 8:56 pm

Last night was a great supper at Red Robin where our DGS,Alec was our server. We had burgers and they were great! Of course when your sweet grand boy is your waiter you know You’ll be leaving a 50% tip! Lol!

Image

We earned our supper out. I got the whole house cleaned and vac'd yesterday, and baking, shopping lists organized. Then we rounded on the cemeteries with silk bouquets of poinsettias, dropped Drew's quilt off and handed Alec his tree skirt at work. Today will be laundry. Ugh. Isn't it always! At least it's not on a washboard out in the yard over a fire! and I think I'll get a start on some baking. We're going to make up some cookie tins to hand out to family and friends.

CHICKIE - you are a wonder with how you pulled that comfort quilt together and quilted it! You and Tina and Jana really stepped in where needed this year, as well as Linda (Sweetpeadesigns). Bless you all! What is Doyal doing in the kitchen now?

JANA - When you get done with your Batt Cave, you'll have no need to ever go upstairs!! Having seen it in its 'early days', I know it's a wonderful place to hole up for the winter!

BECCA - Good to hear your congestion is clearing and I hope your DH is better soon, too.

IRISH - sounds like you and your sis had a good day and found plenty of trouble to occupy your afternoon! Is everyone getting steak for Christmas?? lol! Hate to hear of your sis's hands being so crippled up. Arthritis? A LITTLE 6' tree?? that's a pretty respectable height if you ask me!

BECKY - yes, burgers for us last night! And good ones! With bottomless fries, their claim to fame at Red Robin. Which always sounds irresistable until after you eat a burger and your first round of fries. There's no where to put any more! And for me, the best part of the burger is mounds of greenery!

Supper tonite is going to be pork chops and baked sweet potatoes with a skimpy salad. We have a lot of lettuce but my only other fresh veggie in the house right now is celery. Do you know, we had supper once about 20 years ago at a relative's house in southern MN and celery was served as a side dish, cut bite-size and boiled or steamed. Here it's either a snack or chopped for recipes. Does anyone here think of it as a dish all by itself?

Good morning from a cold but not snowy SW. Pa...It is darn cold and it's going to take awhile for this old body to get used to it....I'd hate to think if I actually had a job and had to go out every day, lol....

Mary, Love the picture and also love Red Robin, that was one of Jim's favorite places to eat...And of course those fries dipped in ranch dressing, yum.....My heavens, are you trying to put us all to shame or maybe spur us on with the cleaning and other Christmasy stuff......Getting the tree in the corner was a big deal for me but (and you all are going to laugh), I'm thinking of taking it down and putting up another one...After using our other tree, I guess I'm spoiled with this one...To me, it looks like it belongs to Charlie Brown....Years ago, when the kids were small, Jim's brother's tree used to be the funniest ever and the kids would always have to go see their tree...I think, even when they had an artificial one, they put it together wrong but now, I'm thinking, that has happened in my house, lol....What I should do is dig out one of my little pines and bring it inside.....

Tina, Happy Birthday1 Hoping this is the "bestest" one ever and you have a very, very special day.....Hope it involves cake.....

Becca, so sorry to hear DH isn't better...You be careful if you do have to take him out...Don't need the both of you laid up....I agree about the celery, only cut up and nibbled on, with dip, cream cheese or peanut butter...Years ago, we were eating out while in Canada and I had ordered the chicken dinner and sure enough, the side was veggies, mostly celery...(not too good).....Hoping DH feels better, stay warm.....

Chickie, You are surrounded with lots of 4 legged critter love, aren't you...All those animals are so lucky to have you....Bundle up, I have a feeling it's not too warm in your neck of the woods.....

Well, today is a stay at home day and hopefully, I'll accomplish something, even if it's wrong....Of course, here it is almost noon and I'm still in my PJs...But, why get dressed if you're not going anywhere, right????Just hope no one comes to the door, lol...
Yesterday was so busy, I left the house at 1:00, stopped at 2 banks, then to Yankee Candle, Hallmark, then to visit with Jim, my sister's and then Bingo and got home around 10:00..Sure can't do that too often! Bingo was fun, came home a winner.....

Dinner hasn't even been thought of, yet..But, probably have to make something, no chips or popcorn left in the house, lol....
DDIL told me a funny about popcorn...She always strings popcorn for her tree (which has to be close to 12 ft. tall and is perfect)...But, she was stringing her popcorn and didn't notice the new puppy eating it off the other end...Puppy, Kessie, ended up in the cage until popcorn was done......

You all have a great day...........

Happy eating.............

Hi, Just gotta brag a little about my dinner plans tonight. We are having Thanksgiving with all the trimmings! Our DGD is home for a week and didn't get any turkey on thanksgiving where she lives and works.

So her mom and I decided we needed to do a "Thanksgiving dinner" just for her. We did ham earlier on the real turkey day a few wks ago. I need to get busy and work on the swt potato casserole and the green bean one too.

Sun we head to Branson for a sort of early Christmas celebration for same DGD since has to head back home next week. Nothing like lots of holidays in a row. But should be fun.

Happy birthday Tina.

Sorry about all the sad news today and celebrating the good news.

Snow, love that stuff when I don't have to drive in it. Surprised TX got it before MO did tho. We are just very very cold here, wind chill in single digits. BRRRR

Need to get busy with cooking. Hugs to all, have a great weekend. God bless today and all your tomorrows too. Shirley Mae

MaryZ, Love the pic. Your grandson is a very handsome guy, but sure can tell he is related to you. How nice to be served by your own DGS. I know he got a great tip from you. Thanks for having supper club every day. Gives me ideas sometimes for my own when Rod isn't up to cooking supper.

Good morning!

Happy Birthday Tina! It is your special day! Enjoy it!

Mary - what a handsome young man! And you, the great Christmas elf, getting so much done!

This was going to be longer, but the mechanic just called and we need to go get my Solara. They did finally find the intermittment problem. It took them a week!

Dinner - something easy

Enjoy,
Jana

Hello all,
Sounds like you are all busy little bees today. I have a lot to do, but here I sit, at work. Guess it will keep.
Happy Birthday to Miss Tina, hope it is a good one, and yes, you need cake too! Maybe that should be what we have for supper, but then, no one could agree on what kind!
We are having soup tonight. And speaking of no one agreeing, we always have two, so tonight it will be Chili & Potato Soup, hot rolls and maybe celery as a side, since Miss Mary is asking, and I happen to have it. I will have the DGS wash his hands and stuff it with his choice. It will be cream cheese. He is the predictable one.
Prayers to all in need, and enjoy your day. I sort of wish I had a nice snowy day to enjoy. Sure would not be going anywhere, and I too, would stay in my PJ's all day! Becky

Good late evening! Tina, I hope you are still having lots of happy birthday greetings... add mine!

Quilt is finished and washed. Waiting on label, packaging and mailing. I had exactly enough backing to make a matching pillow case. I'll start on my regular Christmas sewing once the quilt is in the mail.

I can't believe everyone south is having snow! We missed it completely... just cold. This morning DH was driving to coffee and looked over at a field that had been burned off. It looked like someone had thrown out a bunch of cotton. He got out and looked... a field of frost flowers! I've only seen them once before. They are such a beautiful sight--such delicate things and only last until the sun shines on them. Yes, it was cold and clear this morning. The frost was huge diamonds--big crystals, but not snow or rain.

Dinner last night was ham fried rice. Of course, when you add to leftovers--what da ya get? MORE LEFTOVERS! Ham fried rice again this evening. It's really delicious... just as tasty as Chinese restaurant and much less oily--hopefully less calories!

Irish--your stop at the Chinese buffet did not go unnoticed by me! I hope you helped yourself to a plate for me!

Time to go dish up dinner... tomorrow is day in town with Mom and coffee with my friend.

Bon appetit!
