blanket for backing?

Post by Newby510 » Tue Oct 10, 2017 11:29 am

I am almost finished with my cotton material top. But I want to use a soft blanket on the back instead of the usual batting and cotton material. Is this a problem for my quilting machine?

I've never tried a blanket for a backing, but I think a LA would have difficulty getting through it. I would go with flannel fabric myself. I like that cozy feeling, too, and back most of my quilts with flannel. and I use batting. Double batting or wool batting can give more warmth and weight to the quilt if you want.

I will think about that. I already bought a blanket, but maybe the flannel material would be better. I have the top together but still need to add the edging of a thin red with a wider black. So I will work on that this weekend.

Quilt might be too warm with the blanket.
