Supper club -Monday, September 25
Good morning,
Hi there! Today is Home going day! Yay! We spent last night in Pendleton, Oregon. Not too far from the wool factory. Love that place but won't be stopping today. We will be long gone before it opens. We will travel on interstate 84 on the Oregon side of the Columbia towards Portland. Then up interstate five in Washington to home. Should take seven or eight hours. I have been working on my hand embroidery project- The 50 state birds-while we travel. I will start number nine soon as we get into the truck. Each one has a banner with the state name on it plus the bird and the state flower. They take between eight and 12 hours to do each block.
Dinner tonight would be a very wild guess. But It could be sliced turkey kielbasa with fried onions and fried noodles all together in one dish. And salad. Last night we had a big chef salad for dinner. We were served a lot of good food at the jamboree, but their salads were terrible and I have been craving green for the last two weeks
What's going on with all y'all?

Have a safe trip and I am with you about salads. Denny's and Outback really have good salads, I stoked up on some green at he market over the weekend, as I love salads.
Take care.

Re: Supper club -Monday, September 25
Good morning! I'm still here. My days are a blur--one day into the next at breakneck pace. The calves and dogs keep me hopping. I just had Choc and Maggie duty for 3 days in a row, an 18-hour break, and now another 48 hours of on duty. The calves are growing and seems like they are all always begging for a "snack" or morning/evening feedings. This morning, one of the little steers was in the yard thinking I might mistake him for a yard calf, but I didn't--he was much too big! He scampered back across the cattle guard to the pasture.
Yesterday was our anniversary--12 years! We had a celebration--trip to town to sign a lease on the duplex, then on to Braum's for an ice cream cone. The hooligans went with us, but they just had treats, not cones. I know Odie was terribly disappointed.
Saturday afternoon, we'd been working outside and I got a bowl of watermelon chunks for some refreshment. Who knew--Boomer LOVES watermelon!
I have all but two of my blocks for the 30s swap completed. I love them! They are mostly all different, and I have them on my design wall. They would make a beautiful quilt as they are. It's going to be hard to ship them off to Tina (after I take them to town and show Mom), but I know I'll have all those neat blocks back that the others are making. The feedsack prints always have me thinking of Grandma and her sacks of chicken feed, the dresses she made me from them, feeding chickens and gathering eggs with her...
Mary, your state birds and flowers blocks will be beautiful! How will you set them? Or have you gotten that far with your thinking? Sounds like you have had a wonderful trip--good food, good friends, and time with your family...
Helen--good to see you!
Irish--I would travel like your sister. DH and I like to take the back roads and never take the same road twice. Takes us forever to get to/from somewhere. He has no concept of time or deadlines, so we are never on time getting anywhere--but, it's always a fun ride. I think the journey is more fun than the destination so many times.
Jana--Mary sent pictures of your mountains... beautiful view!!! Spectacular to look out and see that every day!!!
Becca--hope all is well with you! Did you find some baby blanket flannel?
I have floors to do here and put stuff away that has just gotten stacked on the island when I've been in a hurry (all the time).
Dinner: I made a yellow squash casserole yesterday. It had lots of stars on the recipe, but I guess I just don't like squash much. We will eat it... there's lots of it. I like to add lots of Tina's green chili pepper on it for flavor and salsa/pico de gallo. I also tried to make salt and vinegar squash "chips", but they didn't come out at all and are on their way to compost. I told DH to lock his car doors when he went to coffee today--NO more squash!!! He brought back a huge sack yesterday. He brought home green beans a few days ago, and they are delicious! He also came home with eggplant, and I made baked eggplant parmigiana. DH tried a bite, but I'm eating all of it. That will be on my plate tonight with tomatoes and squash casserole. DH will have steak, squash casserole and green beans. There may be salads as well or perhaps celery sticks. No starving for sure. Lots of friends with bountiful gardens!
Bon Appétit!

Good morning!
We are still cold in the mornings, around 35, but will warm up to 70 during the day by the end of the week. Thinking hard on shutting down the sprinklers until spring. Last year, the irrigation backflow preventer, froze and cracked. We replaced it at the tune of $250 and really don't want to do that again.
The mountains are quite dusted with snow and look very pretty.
Mary - you left too soon, the area -Richfield had a couple of good earthquakes on Saturday. So besides freezing, you could have been shook too! Oh, Scotty, get ready! LOL!
Chickie - winter is coming, so you can slow down! Sarah takes and grates zucchini and freezes for later, in chilis, spaghetti sauce etc. She even makes zucchini fritters too. Congrats on your anniversary!
Still haven't figured out dinner, but there is plenty to cook.
Enjoy!

Re: Supper club -Monday, September 25
Morning everyone:
Well, the past 3 days have been full of quilt show and I am so tired. My 70 year old body is protesting the breakneck speed of setting up racks on Friday night, then the take down yesterday. In between I worked the admissions desk and the raffle baskets. My partners were people in the guild that I don't know, so I got to know some new people better. Unfortunately, our chairperson said that the show was not as well attended as in previous years. In spite of all our advertising. I told all my contacts, put the announcement on my Facebook and I only saw 1 of them come to the show. It really was a great show too. I displayed 4 quilts and 1 wall hanging. Now I can pack up 3 of them and send them off to their forever homes.
As if I haven't had enough to do with quilting, this afternoon is my little quilt group's get together. Since I am picking up the chairperson, I will get to hear all the gossip about the show and the "inside" happenings.
The contractor is back today to redo all the things that got wet and had to be torn down last week. It is taking shape and looking good.
Mary Z - welcome home. Do you put your rig away for the winter? Or do you head south to camp? We are running out of time here, as most of the campgrounds have shut down and we will have our first snow next month. I hope we can get in one more run before we put it away for the winter.
Chickie: You have spoiled your "children"! Just like we spoiled our pets!!
To the Rest of you....have a wonderful day and prayers for all those in need.

Re: Supper club -Monday, September 25
Good afternoon from another very, very warm summer day, here in SW. Pa....I'm sure not complaining and sadly heard, by the end of the week we'll only be in the high 60, low 70s but as long as Mr. Sun sticks around, makes for a good thing......
Mary, headed home, "our" vacations seem to end quickly, lol...AND you sure are flying though those blocks...Knowing you, you'll have it done and all put together in just a matter of days....I do go along with you in the salad department...I hate when you order a salad and it's been made and kept cold, I need mine fresh....Years ago, a gal in card club would order "fresh salad and real French fries" and some waitresses would just give her the eye....
Chickie, congrats on the anniversary...My heavens, you're still newly weds...Which reminds me, DGD, Cari and DH will be married a year on the 1st....Where oh where has the time gone! And you do need to take time for yourself, making me awfully tired, lol....
Jana, glad you're going to be getting warmer weather...This is much, much too soon to think of that nasty cold and snow....I too have a few packages of shredded zucchini in the freezer, mostly for cakes which will taste pretty good during the winter....
Becca, I'm sure you're as busy as ever and hope your day is special....
Today is kind of a lazy day....Did get Jim's laundry done and now, just not sure what I'll get into....I've been trying to finish a book and might just have to take my tea and book to the porch and take advantage of the day.....
For my dinner, it might just be a sandwich and a hand full of chips...Terry was here yesterday and told me, he's really into cooking for his new wife but needs to come up with more slow cooker recipes...Kind of got me thinking, maybe I'll do more cooking, maybe!
You all have a great day....
Happy cooking............
