Supper club, Tuesday, September 19

Good morning

Our 60 mile ride turned into 80 miles yesterday. The last 15 we were on paved county roads getting back to camp. Here, ATVs and UTVs can be driven on the road just like cars. ATV tourism is their main industry-especially during Jamboree week. The rest of the week is all scheduled 80 mile rides. We may need to stay an extra day or two to rest! LOL. Having fun can be hard work

Tina, so sorry to hear about your mom. But hope you are able to make some good memories with her in the time she has left

Becca, we aren't getting news here so I appreciate hearing about what is going on. I have not heard another hurricane was coming. What did they name this one and when is it supposed to hit?

Chickie, you are one of the most giving people I know! Your days are filled to the brim with things you do for others. I hope you get some chickie time soon. But I know all of your beloved critters love you for it

Jana -so funny about Ethan "reading". Apparently I did the same thing. I loved the story, "the little red hen" when I was preschool. We had a big family and I made everybody read it to me over and over and I also memorized the pages. They couldn't skip pages on me! ( I still know that book by heart!)

Last nights dinner was at the fairgrounds, provided for us. It was barbecued pork sandwiches, beans, salad. Tonight there is free dinner at Mexican restaurant. Have no idea where they are going to seat 600 people If it is too crowded, I think we will just come home and have leftover chicken sandwich

Wish I had more time to talk, but need to get our days of lunch made and into the cooler, bed made, teeth brushed. No point in showering before we ride. This is Dusty business here

Where is our Linda?

Good evening!

Very late here - it will be a soup night - I am in the mood for chicken soup with matzo balls.

We have been cold here - not even 60! I have snow that has stayed on the tops of the Rockies across the valley.

No Ethanisms today. He is just very excited to enter a coloring contest at school. There are some great prizes to win. What excites him the most is the awards dinner, with a policeman. The awards are a distant second to the dinner with a cop!

See ya tomorrow!
Enjoy,
Jana

Late afternoon everyone:

DH and I are back from our coastal road trip. We also dropped Speedy off at his new home, at a Turtle and Tortoise Rescue. The web site had looked amazing and talking with the owner I was excited. However, when we arrived we found a wizened old man, hobbling around after just having had open heart surgery. He had large bins of green, cloudy water where he "quarantined" new turtles. He did dump the green water out and put in clean water before we put Speedy in. Then we saw the pond, a very large water feature, again full of algae and a bloom of some kind of small leafed plant all over the surface. He said there were 75 turtles of 15 species in the pond. But in further talking, it seems that he doesn't put Red Eared Sliders in with them. He mostly adopts them out to people that want have a backyard pond. So I guess Speedy has to live in the bin until he is adopted out. We felt really bad leaving him there and I almost turned around several times and went back to get him. And it hit us really hard when we came home to an empty tank.

After leaving Speedy we continued on down the coast to Solvang, a Danish tourist town, for several days of their Danish Festival. We had fun watching parades, eating Danish sausage and pastries, and walking through the stores. No fabric to be found, but lots of lace, tea towels and tablecloths. The weather was great too.

Back home yesterday and the contractors showed up today to start on Renovation #3, turning our back porch into a sun room. The screened windows were delivered and we discovered that we had ordered 1 huge window too many. So now we will have to build DH a workshop someday so we can use up the extra window. LOL. Work is progressing quickly and it is already framed and the windows in. Now they are working on replacing the roof. The weather is down in the 80's and cool in the morning so the men are more comfortable working.

This morning I went over to my friend's house 2 blocks away to give her the final version of the Quilt Show Program to get printed. She and her friend were trying to get 300+ quilts in order of the rows they hang in. Then put them into a tall box so that the helpers can just grab and hang as they will already be in order. At that moment, someone showed up with 5 quilts (a week late!) and left them. We discovered no sleeves or labels were on them. So I stayed another 3 hours and sewed sleeves and labels on them. Why are there always people who don't follow directions! The frenzy starts this Friday at 3:45. Since the show is in a school gym, we can't get started until the kids go home at 3:00. I was warned that we will be working until 11PM setting up for the show Sat & Sun. Then we have to get it all down Sun night because school starts on Monday. So this will be a long, hard weekend.

Also, my brother and his wife stopped by on Monday, on their way home after being on the road a month and visiting family in WA. They arrived at 3 PM yesterday, stayed in their trailer last night and took off early this morning. It was good to see them, however short, and I am grateful they took the time to come inland to see us. They were so tired of traveling and just wanted to get home.

So there you have it. You probably won't hear from me until the show is over, as things will be intense until next week. You all have a wonderful week and prayers for all those in need.

**Linda
