SUPPER CLUB - Wed, Sept 6th

Post by purrfect-lady » Wed Sep 06, 2017 4:19 am

Good morning!

We still have a lot of haze this morning and news tells us we'll have it, as well as falling ash, for another few days until winds shift.

Yesterday got binding on a quilt top I put together while in Texas and it's going to be an 80th birthday gift later this month for a good friend. I also worked on my 30's swap blocks and we both puttered in the trailer for an hour or so, getting organized. so may things we need to add for an ATV trip, and things that are in there for normal travel that came out. We knocked off early, had supper, and then settled in to watch a Harry Potter movie. What an amazing talent J.K. Rowling is!! Her imagination is boundless!

IRISH!! YOU'RE HOME!! We missed you! So glad you had such a marvelous time! Not only seeing Ireland but time spent with family! you are probably all skinny now from missing so many suppers! And I'm sure that wasn't you sipping brew on FB!! lol!! you probably had a stand-in for that shot! How did your sis do? And congrats to Terry!! I had no idea an elopement was in the offing! he never said a word!

TINA - so hard to watch someone you love go downhill. You are such a good, kind, loving, patient daughter.

CHICKIE - thanks for the carpet cleaning tips. Bill always wants to rush the machine - also the vacuum. I still love having carpet under my feet. Though we were going to put wood floors in the dining/living rooms and hallway when we re-carpeted 3 yrs ago, but when we saw the price, we stuck with carpet.

JANA - I hadn't thought about fires, smoke on our ATV rides . . Will keep that in mind. Maybe this is the beginning of you becoming a big quilting star! WE know you already are, but I mean more widely known! How many do you think are going to take you up on your offer to teach them quilting?

BECCA - we're watching Irma's path carefully. Last night's news said that it's the biggest storm ever recorded in the Atlantic. Bigger than Harvey and Katrina and Wilma. I know you are inland, but could still feel huge effects from it. BE SAFE!

Tonite's feast will be burgers on the grill! And some more of that kale salad mix from Costco - which turned out to be quite tasty and fresh!

How is your menu shaping up for tonite?

Hello everyone, cloudy with rain showers. Stay in kind of day.Had boomers too.

Welcome Home Irish. We missed you but knew you were having a great time. And to be with family so much the better,And congrats to Terry.Hope he finds happiness.Sure Jim was happy to see you.

Maryz We had Fran & Irvin I think was the name come thru here. Some people on one Mtn had mud slides & lost lives. Its was a real trial for lots of people.Trees here & slides is the danger & flooding too .Our road We go out on Was washed out last time.Only 4 wheel drive could go.Praying it all goes to Atlantic.
Also for the fires to stop out west.DGS sent us a picture from his house.Remined me of last Fall when we had fires. That also presents a hazard here due to washing from erosion.

Jana Hope your class fills up .Sure they would enjoy your classes.Ethan must be like Sawyer. He loves it too.Its hard on those little fellows.prayers that Daniel stays safe & can be home with family Very soon.

Chickie Sure hope DH gets tired of the rentals too.Its bad enough cleaning up your own mess but some one else's is worse.I love our Hardwood floors. So easy to keep up.

Tina My Heart goes out to you.Youre a wonderful loving Daughter.Sure your Dad appreciates all you do.We are here for you & hugs that it's a better day.

Linda Hope the heat & smoke lets up soon for you.

DH is down with a stomach bug today.I have Spagetti leftover but will be soup or toast for him.Have a great meal. Becca

Good morning! Yesterday I finished the downstairs carpets. I could not believe that I got them looking so good. DH is a happy camper. Of course, he had to spend some money… I burned up my first shampooer. It had had a hard life. I’d had it since early 2009 (after the fire) and used it A LOT! It just got tired and gave up with a “grrr…rr..pfft” and a stink. So, I got a new one… more powerful, more brushes, wider path for only $10 more than the one I had figured replacement cost. I like it!!! Tomorrow I will have to work on the stairs—they are stained and ugly. Today—reprieve! Going for a dental cleaning in Joplin. I’m on all dog duty and Mom duty today as well, so it will be a quick trip and no LQS.

Mary—the slower you go with the shampooer/extraction, the better… almost a crawl, and I overlap by thirds, so I actually get 3 times at once. I pre-treat, and I also go back and give more attention to high traffic and bad places. Those probably get 10x. Rinsing is the same. I was pretty shocked and pleased with the work on that carpet!

Irish—Welcome home!!! I thought about you so much, and it sounds like you had a blast and definitely trip of a lifetime. So glad you all got to go together! Wow! You did have a lot of news with Terry’s big event! Best wishes!!!

Tina—Hugs to you! It’s just a hard road you travel now. Not anything else you can do other than be a rock for your dad and hang on to your own sanity.

Jana---more teaching! Exciting!

Becca—I saw this morning that Irma might go up the east coast… Creepy not knowing…

Time to get ready to go… dinner out… Chinese!

Bon Appétit!

Good morning :)
I've been here 3 times at last trying to read but kept getting called away LOL
Mary, you sure have been busy :) I bet your trip is gonna be fun! Enjoy!
Chickie, I don't know if I should say congratulations on a new shampooer or not, but if you're happy then I'm happy for you :) you need a mini vacation. ... my house is always open ;)
Becca, I hope that storm didn't get you! Stay safe.
Irish, welcome home! Naw that couldn't have been you on Facebook ;) I'm so glad you enjoyed your trip!

Thank you all for being here for me. I know I complain and I feel bad to.

Mom and Dad both had Dr's appointments this morning, I wonder if Mom got washed and dressed to go? I'll call in a little bit.
I did ribs yesterday and they were yummy. Tonight will be pork tenderloin and zucchini.
I'm loving playing with the block I picked for the 30's swap :)
I'm doing laundry this morning and going to vacuum in a minute.

Good afternoon from semi sunny, slightly chilly, SW. Pa....My body just isn't ready for the cooler temps and by the time I get used to it, we'll have Indian summer and it will be warm.....

Mary, I'm a little like you with wanting carpet under my feet, in most rooms...But, was so glad to get rid of it in the kitchen and really thinking about it in the dining room...But, I might have other decisions to be making before I do that....Been thinking, if Jim stays in the memory home, (and it looks like he will) I should try to find something closer and sell this house...I hate making decisions even little ones like carpet/wood, lol....Bill sounds a lot like Jim when we would scrub the carpets, Jim would rush, like he was using a vacuum cleaner....Would give just about anything to have him back doing those carpets......
I was not surprised at Terry, I knew it was coming just not sure when....Those 2 really do deserve to finally have some true happiness and of course the boys are thrilled to pieces....

Tina, you are an amazing lady, don't ever, ever think you are complaining...You are and have been facing a very hard time.....Don't know how you do it all....

Chickie, you're the same way...You all are such an inspiration, whether you're doing those darn floors or not.....

Becca, we can only hope and pray that storm blows out to sea...I just can't imagine living down south or near the coastline and having Irma bearing down on you.....Also, prayers for your DH, sorry to hear he's not feeling up to par.....

I'm still trying to get this old body back to whatever might be normal...Each night, I've dreamed I'm either lost in a castle, wondering around roads in my PJs (that don't match) or thinking I've lost my passport and will be left behind...I find myself waking up sitting on the couch downstairs or in the back bedroom looking for my suitcase with my clothes...Poor BabyGirl is not getting too much sleep, lol....I had close to 200 pictures printed yesterday and trying to get them in order has me right back in Ireland and in need of one of those "pints" that double was drinking....But, one thing for sure, they really did make a good cup of tea!

Just heard from Terry and he'll be stopping after work today..This is one of the evenings, his new wife goes to help take care of her mother...So, before he comes I need to run and pick up my old mammo films to take to my appointment tomorrow...What is neat, the appointment is near a JoAnn's so you know where I'll be after the squishing.....

As for my dinner, haven't a clue...Not much of an appetite but there's always cereal or that bag of chips that just happened to jump in my shopping cart....

You all have a great day....

Happy eating..............

Late morning everyone:

Up and out early because it is going to finally drop out of the 100's today, only 94. It was only 74 when I went out at 6:30 a.m. Working on the usual re-re-re-trimming of the Asian Jasmine. It will stop growing end of October and I can take a break.

Not much happening here, DH is recovering from his sinus infection and not quite so prickly. The air quality is still bad so we stay in the house after 10:00.

MaryZ- The Jenni Beyer is called Cosmos and is one of her quilt alongs from last year I think. I am making it for DH's office manager who was with us for 25 years. I should have finished it sooner but I got blocked on it. It is not an easy one to do and I just had to put it away for awhile. Now I am back on track and getting the applique part done a little at a time.

Irish - welcome home. Glad you enjoyed Ireland. We have been there too. But I would not kiss the Blarney stone, too many germs. We loved England too and would like to return to both places.

Chickie - I grew up surrounded by animals, though smaller ones, and it is part of my nature to want to take care of something. At this point in our lives we have outlived all our pets and are down to 1 water turtle that we have had for 17 years. But I have found a home for him, as he is getting too hard for me to care for in my older age. We have to make a road trip sometime to take him to his new home. When we are animal free, we can take longer trips in the RV.

Tina - having been the hospice care giver for both of my parents and living with them in their declining year, I can sympathize and empathize with you. I know it hurts to watch them pull in and disengage with the world, but that is part of the process. At some point you will have to start making the decisions for them. Wishing you strength.

Well, you all have a great day. Count your blessings and prayers for all those in need.

Well, here it is dinnertime again and I am very late to the table.

Good excuse, though. Sarah and I spent a good part of the day gathering the fabrics for my class on Saturday. We improved the economy on this quilt! It took us only two shops, but 4 hours to get all of them. Reds, oranges, yellows, creams and a pop of purple. Hopefully this quilt will sing! What was a brain buster was translating the colors from teals, blues and greens, into my color palette. The pattern is a beast to figure out, but I hope that was the hard part.

My new tote is almost done - it will be needed to haul all the stuff for class - fabric, rulers, ziplocks, scissors, etc.

Diiner - something simple like turkey burger gravy over rice and fresh asparagus.

See ya tomorrow -
Jana
