SUPPER CLUB - Tuesday, Sept 5th
Good morning!
The BBQ was fun last night - there were 13 folks. Almost everyone we know! lol! Couldn't believe we were there 5 hours. And the party is coming here on Friday for campfire and finger food supper. Now to think of what FF to serve! I'm taking suggestions! But I believe we'll start with a tray of croissant sandwiches from Costco . . . And end with blackberry cobbler.
Today I think we need to start getting serious about packing the trailer. We leave next Monday for the ATV jamboree in Utah. No need to take a lot of food as most of the meals are provided by the Jamboree people. We've never done an organized thing before, just our own thing. But my sis and BIL love it so we thought we'd join them this year. Maybe we'll love it, too!
CHICKIE - you are so patient and hardworking! I think my response would have been, "if you insist on keeping the carpet then YOU clean it!" and then headed for the LQS. But then you aren't a snot. I probably am . . . ;o) I can see why you didn't stay for the dance. But oh, for me, that's the best part of the party! I did see that about Nancy Zieman. So sad! She's such a talent and hers was the first sewing show I ever watched. She said once, that the first season was filmed in a corner of her kitchen, I think.
JANA - poor Ethan! He hasn't seen Gramma!! That must give you a smile in your heart! I remember Mom telling us that my oldest brother, Gene, was really bummed when he started first grade (no kindergarten here back then) and found out after the first day he had to go back! lol! and in that one day, the teacher had to teach the kids how to climb trees because Gene had them all up in the limbs at recess! He's 82 yrs old now and he's is STILL a mischief-maker!
BECCA - a bear bite in the JD seat! How cool is that!! We had a cooler once that we were going to toss because it wasn't very efficient. But then an Alaskan bear came through our camp one night, got the cooler, and dragged it off into the woods. Next morning we found it a few hundred feet into the trees, also with big bite marks. After that we HAD to keep that cooler because it was such a great souvenier of our trip!
LINDA - your Sunday Gumbo sounds delish! That's kind of what we'll be having tonite. What Jinny Beyer pattern are you working on?
Today is going to be a mix of things - trailer, sewing, and, well, that's probably pretty much it. We'll power down by 4pm when our news comes on. Hopefully, today will be the last of our super-hot days. (90+)
Supper is going to be much like Linda's DH's Sunday Gumbo - leftover chicken and rice to start. I'll add some veggies and tomatoes, too, I think. A one-pot dish. Plus kale salad (bought a mix at Costco to try).
What are you trying for your supper tonite?

Good morning
)
Sorry I didn't get by yesterday again, I was at Mom and Dad's all day. I got up at 5 to make meatloaf with everything to go with and took it with us, I can't use her oven without unloading all kinds of baking stuff that never has been used so it's easier on me to cook here first. Mom had me nervous yesterday, she's not doing good at all and at 12 she said lets eat so I got up to make plates and she said for me to wait and let her rest first, it turned into a 3 hour heavy sleep that I couldn't wake her from. She finally woke up at almost 3 and she said her oxygen was at 50 by her little finger thingy. Dad and Frankie had just gotten back and I told Dad what happened and he says he knows and there's nothing we can do anymore. She didn't eat breakfast yesterday and she ate 2 bites of the meatloaf and that was it. Dad says he's moving before it gets cold which is usually the end of October. They were talking about taking the porch down yesterday and how they're going to haul it here and then it's just the actual trailer left. I just try to take it all in stride and hope for the best. I did get to sew all day yesterday while I babysat Mom though
) I took my sewing machine and 2 different projects to work on and my card table and a folding chair, there's no place for me to setup at their house so I took my own stuff
) it worked out good, I sat 10 feet in front of Mom and sewed and sewed
)
Sat night I slept 2 hours then the at 6 fell asleep for about an hour, Sun night I slept 4 hours so last night after being so tired from not sleeping and so nervous about Mom not waking I barely made it to 10 and crashed and slept 7 hours straight
)
Mary, your BBQ and friends sounds like such fun!
Chickie, I had the same thought...tell Doyle that he needs to shampoo then
I'm not sure what's for supper yet.....

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Tuesday, Sept 5th
Good morning! We are cooler and overcast this morning with a tiny chance of rain. Everything is so dusty and gritty. Thankfully, the wind hasn’t been blowing too much or we would have poor air quality here, too. I really feel for Linda with the smoke. When driving down the gravel roads, the dust billows as tall as the trees and hangs in the air for quite some time before settling. Even the little dogs as they run kick up clouds of dust behind them.
Yes, I’m still shampooing the carpet at the rental. I worked for 5 hours yesterday and still didn’t get the first pass completed. I learned from the custodians at work to go super slow and let the brushes really spin and get all the grit brought to the surface, then extract just as slowly. It’s almost dry when it’s extracted. Today I will finish the first pass, then I’ll work on the really nasty parts. When that’s completed, I’ll rinse several times with vinegar in the water to cut all the soap. That’s the key to not having the build-up of dirt right away. Left in soap attracts dirt. I’m amazed that it’s coming out so well. Maybe I should spend what DH saved in not replacing the floor at the quilt shop???
Linda—I put in all wood and tile floors when we rebuilt… NO carpet for me, either! I couldn’t handle house and rentals! I spend enough time keeping the hardwood looking halfway decent with all the gravel, dust, dogs and DH… Carpets would have me in the house with the men in white coats…
I also meant to tell you about the calves… you mentioned the little goats were wagging their tails at the bottle board. The calves do the same thing. As soon as the milk starts arriving in their stomachs, the tails start wagging and beating a tattoo. They are so funny to watch!
Mary—yes, I learned so much from Nancy Zieman… in addition to some quilting, I learned tailoring and sewing tips. Some of the other first quilting shows I watched were Kaye Wood and Shar Jorgensen. When we got cable, I watched Alex Anderson on HGTV. I remember that Nancy filmed in her home when she first started. PBS had a special on during their fund raising week that had excerpts from old shows of hers. They were so fun to see.
Becca—they are saying that in a few years we will have bears in our area. Isn’t that amazing! (And a little unnerving.) Wild boars have been seen in the lower county about 30 miles south of us—that is really not good! They are so destructive.
Jana—what a sweetie! Kindergarten is such a big step!
Well… dinner last night was steak, rice and salads. I’d fixed baked beans and forgot to put them on the table. I was REALLY tired when we got home last evening. Tonight will be the same. We have Audubon meeting this evening, so it’s good to have easy fixin’s. Think of me as I’m doing the Hoover Hustle today as well as taking care of all the dogs and calves. Pocket Lint and Blackie came this morning, and I fed them. They should be finished eating by now, so I’ll let them out to rejoin the herd.
Bon appétit!

Somehow I missed Becca's and Tina's posts... I'm not thinking straight.
Oh, Tina--I feel for you! It's so sad to watch your mom failing like that and not being able to help her at all. HUGS!!! Last night I was too tired to sleep--sounds like we are alike there. Sounds like you did the best you could do yesterday. Will she take Ensure or Boost?

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Tuesday, Sept 5th
Good morning from a very, very damp, rainy, dreary, chilly, yucky, SW. Pa....
Yep, I'm back, I think! Not quite sure how long it takes to get back to reality but so far I'm not liking it, lol.....
Mary, I've never known anyone with such an exciting, busy social life...And you with 13 folks, you sure are lucky.....I've tried to read some of the back posts and see that Vickie is still nearby, what a shame....And now, you're leaving on another trip...How long will you be gone this time? You would have laughed at the fur kids when I got home...1st BabyGirl kind of ignored me but then I think she figured out I was staying and now she won't let me out of her sight...Kelly, who normally doesn't get real close has taken to talking more than usual and I have a feeling she's telling me, I've been a bad mom for leaving them....
Becca, I did see where your blood work is good! Thank goodness, we all were worried...And as far as having a bear bite in the seat, WOW! I think I'd also hang onto that and hope that the bear doesn't decide to come back for more....Hope you and DH are doing well.....
Chickie, rug scrubbing, not my favorite thing to do and I'm in agreement with the others...I've been putting off doing my dining room and think it might be easier to just get a new floor....
Tina, always sorry to hear about the problems you're having...You are a special person to be able to handle it all...Sure hope your parents get moved before long..AND also hope and pray for easier days for you.....
As I said, not sure just where I am or how long it's going to take getting back to where I'm supposed to be...
Jim was happy to see me but didn't act as if I'd been away for awhile, which I thought was good, in a way....He did say, he had lots and lots of visitors, another thing I was happy for...He seems content, if that's at all possible...One sad note, I probably had mentioned about the fellow who came 3 times a day to feed his wife, well she passed away last week...I knew something was wrong when I pulled in the parking lot and his car wasn't there...But, she's no longer suffering and he now can be a peace knowing he was a very, very devoted husband....
I did have some really super good news...We have a new member of this crazy family...Terry and Theresa eloped to Erie and were married on the beach in front of the lighthouse...I knew it was coming but just not exactly when...These 2 deserve to be happy, long time coming...
AND my trip was unbelievable...And contrary to some of the pictures being shown on FB, that couldn't have been me drinking in a pub!..We visited churches, castles and a "few" pubs...Cari estimated, we walked a good 10 miles the first day, while in Dublin...And if anyone is thinking of going to Ireland and visiting the Blarney stone, be prepared to climb, climb and climb all those steps...That's when you really need a pint or 2...But, both my sister and I did it and we have proof that we actually kissed the Blarney stone...Very proud to say, she and I only got lost once, even though DSIL tried his best...But, it was indeed a trip of a life time...Spending time with this crazy family was priceless, one I'll never forget...I could go on and on but I think you all know by now, I loved every minute of it......
Would love to spend all day in my robe and pjs but I'm off to get my pictures printed, pick up my RX and then visit with Jim...
As far as dinner, we'll see what drops out of the freezer but there's always a salad or maybe just open a can of soup.....
You all have a great day..........
Happy eating...................
Almost forgot, today is my oldest son's 62nd birthday....He passed me up, long, long time ago.......

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Tuesday, Sept 5th
Good dinnertime!
It's near that for us here and nothing yet appeals to cook. So we will see.
Got a call from Kari and Daniel is on the move to another fire. The Eclipse fire complex in way northern California. It is only 25% contained and has burned nearly 90,000 acres. It is a tough fire, in steep terrain. Our little Karlie is having a hard time with Daddy being gone. She is a Daddy's girl. She is almost 2 now.
Welcome home Irish! Such wonderful news for Terry - many happy congrats! Sounds as if you need a vacation to recover from the vacation! I know there are many wonderful memories.
Ethan is still being a little pill about school. He puts up a fuss, but once he is there, loves every minute.
Tommorow after Sarah drops him off at school, we are heading out to our LQS's in the area to get the fabtic for my class, which starts Saturday morning.
Mary - our air quality has dropped into the pits level. We have so much smoke in the air from fires here in our state and what is blowing in from Idaho, Oregon and California. So be forewarned, as I don't know how far south it extends. It might affect your roundup. Right now, it is so thick, I cannot even see the mountains across the valley. A wildfire broke out by I-84, today, but after you will be on I 15 in the Ogden area.
Well, time to scoot,
Prayers and hugs for all,
Jana
