SUPPER CLUB - Thursday, Aug 10th

Post by purrfect-lady » Thu Aug 10, 2017 3:18 am

Wow! august is already 1/3 gone! Time is on the move! We are on our 54th day of no rain. We broke the 1951 record of 51 days on Monday and there is a slim chance we'll get a few drops this coming Sunday. I am hoping! We are dry, dry, DRY! My hair feels 'crispy'!

SHIRLEY MAE - glad to have you and good to know Rod is back home, fairly healthy, and back at the stove!

TINA - I've never had peach butter before. Never even heard of it! We aren't leaving home until day after Christmas this year. Trying to share the holidays with our home kids. It's their 'turn'.

JANA - how many skinnies are you making? Is there one for each month? They sound so cute! When you finish them, you need to share photos!

BECCA - If I remember my little kids correctly, it takes a few days to recover your energy after a long visit with them! lol! But they are so sweet!

Last nights supper of sweet and sour meatballs over rice was pretty tasty and there's enough left for tonite. So, supper problem solved! Hope yours is as easy to 'fix'!

Good morning! Somehow I missed sliding into my seat here at the table yesterday… I was cleaning floors before brunch, then we walked down to Ava’s, and upon return DH wanted to go to town. I needed calf feed, so I was up for the trip. We also dropped off a watermelon at my sister’s to share with Mom. I came home and headed back to my sewing room. Yesterday I made the doll quilt to go with the baby quilt and bibs. I also made the labels and have to hand stitch the label on the baby quilt. I will make one more bib—lavender from the fabrics Mom gave me. After she and my sister see the ensemble Saturday, I’ll get it ready to mail.

Today will be busy, as I have Choc and Maggie--4 trips there... Maggie has been good--no "accidents" for several days with my adding an extra trip for her to go outside.

Mary—those sweet and sour meatballs sound so delicious! I wonder if I could get DH to go for them… You sure were busy with jam and pickles! I have two jars of Tina’s pickles left and two jars of the dill ones I made that were processed instead of refrigerated. I shared with DD, but I’ve been devouring my jars each day. I have no competition here—all for ME! That’s nice to share holidays with the “home” kids!

Dinner here… there is a bit of lasagna left, and I’ll probably eat it—hope I can find salad makin’s. I need to go rummage through the freezer and find something beefy for DH… We won’t starve! There’s corn on the cob as well as watermelon and cantaloupe, and I could make a meal on either or both.

Bon appétit! Off to make that last bib…

Good Morning Mary and all who follow.....for supper...leftovers. Takes care of that problem. The pork chops in crockpot meal was so good last night and plenty for tonight. I LOVE my cook and he's back.

Tina...would love to have extra peaches to play with. Peach butter sounds so yummy. Rod makes a peach bbq sauce that is absolutely wonderful and he uses peach or peach mango nectar drink. I can buy it at the Dollar Tree and it is thick. He adds chunks of peaches sometimes to it too. Then cooks it down to thicken it after adding seasonings.

You can google recipes for peach bbq and find a lot of them. So good.
He adds onion powder, garlic pwdr, paprika, cayenne, etc. He doesn't really use any special recipe, just a combo of them for ideas and does his own thing. Keep tasting until you like it.

He also uses Splenda in things he makes sugar free. You can heat Splenda and it is ok. IF you heat aspartame, it gets bitter. He also uses sugar free catsup and diet rite cola in his sugar free bbq sauce. Diet rite has Splenda in it, other diet pops do not always. Rod thought recipe was off Angela's recipe for bbq sauce or try googling diet rite cola bbq recipes. Rod said he thinks that diet rite comes in flavors and plans to try a flavored one next time.
Have fun with the peaches and the kids.

Becca....hope you are rested after kid chasing so long. I just can not do that any more. My youngest DGC turns 10 today. Tried to call but still asleep. They are in AZ. Grow up so fast. He started school on Mon. When does yours start there? Will you babysit again this yr.

Jana.....I too like the idea of skinnies. Fast and easy and cute and nice idea for quick gifts. Quilty type things that don't take long to do but still made with love. Does Ethan try to help you sew? Good luck in the Sorry rematch. Those little ones can be very competitive but good way to teach them sportsmanship at an early age.

Mary.....we had a quick rain storm last night, about 30 min and !/2 inch of rain. Creek was quickly roaring below us, so must have really rained further north somewhere. Area was flooded badly last wk. We are fine here tho but be careful what you pray for.....rain wise. It can get a little deep sometimes.

Sorry you have been so long without rain. We love Wash but I couldn't take all that rain all the time....gets to be depressing. Can't imagine it dry. We talked about living in your area at one time but not close to any of the kids. So pretty up there in PNW.

Need to scoot. Rod has chiro apptmt at 10. He can finally drive again. Said to wait 48 hrs after proceure. I hate driving so I never go very far....dr office and groc store mostly. and a mall nearby.

You all have a great fun day doing whatever you do. God bless, love and hugs, and happy eating, whatever you choose. Shirley Mae

Hi Chickie, You can definitely put "dog walker" on your resume if you ever need a job. Oh and calf feeder too. I so admire all the charming things you do each day. Such a busy but fun life. Know you enjoy it. Did you get any rain last night? We still have flooded areas from the last 4-6-8" storms in this area. WE had 4" here so not too bad.

Your doll quilt and other things like bibs sound so cute. I love making doll quilts, use your imagination, and it is finished in a hurry. And kids love them. Everyone is happy! Have a great day doing whatever all you do. I know you are always a busy lady.

Mary....forgot about your pickles. Are they done yet? I quit canning pickles because my family ate them faster than I could make them so never left for a cold winter night. What kind are they? WE go thru lots of pickles in this house, all kinds.

Good morning :)
Mary, I'll try my best to save you a jar :) I bet your home kids will love having you there at Christmas! :)
Shirley Mae, the BBQ sauce sounds yummy! I'd have to use sugar though, I can't have any artificial sweeteners, Dr's order. ... they don't play nice with my body and cause cysts and things.
Chickie, glad the extra trips are making no accidents. I bet Maggie is happy too :)
I put a pot roast on for supper and we have a big salad made from last night but we had pork tenderloin and zucchini and it filled us up so no room for salad.

Late morning all....

Have been peeling, slicing and dicing since 7:00 this morning (it is now 11:30) preparing a crate of peaches and nectarines for dehydration. This is the last week for fruit from our favorite farm so I have had to "make hay while the sun shines". Filled up my 2 dehydrators (20 trays) and in about 12 - 16 hours I will have to fill up jars with the results. We should be good for the winter. No more dehydrating until Nov when the persimmons come in.

Didn't check in yesterday because I had to get a salad prepared for our teacher reunion at noon. I made a macaroni garden salad that was tasty, cool and refreshing for a hot summer day. It was a hit. Had a great time visiting with 12 retired friends and catching up on our lives. At our age lots of surgeries, deaths and illnesses in our group. But we all still have our brains and sense of humor. We will probably do this again in 2 years.

DH finally got a missionary group to take the last of the big equipment from the office so now he is taking the stuff stored in our family room to the office for the yard sale on Saturday. I am beginning to see my beautiful new hardwood floor again. I have to have the kitchen, family room and my sewing/living room, plus the new bathroom spotless by Monday. It is my turn to host the little quilt group of 6 I belong too. They have patiently been taking my turns because of the bathroom reno and DH's office closure. Since we have had no rains for 3 months (like MaryZ) the windows are all dusty and spotted again, so gotta do those.

Caught up on all your lives, everyone seems to be doing fine at the moment. We are all blessed!

**Linda
