Good morning
We are going home this morning after one last walk on the beach. It will be 3 to 3 1/2 hour drive. Hope to get home and unloaded before the heat sets in. We are used to 67° here at beach and Home is 90. But, it is still home.
Irish, you had way too much adventure! Hope Jim is doing OK now. What date do you leave for Ireland?
Becca, and you have had way too much adventure this past week, too! Hope your DH is doing OK. And your car, and you. I guess you need to find something for him to do to feel useful and that isn't dangerous. How does he feel about hand sewing bindings? Funny about your DGGS the flowers
I'm not sure about our supper tonight but we have a cooked chicken breast left over. But it might just be cheese and crackers and veggies/dip.
Typing with one finger on this tiny keyboard is tedious. Keeping this short. See you at home!

Hi, I posted this over in SEwin but wanted to post here too.
Could I please have a prayer for strength, I am so exhausted. Rod is finally having a chem stress test this am. Won't get results until about 3 hrs later. Long day again.
He is still in hospital. NOt much chest pains but leg hurts really bad and not in a very good mood. I am not sleeping well and so tired from running back and forth to hosp. If the stress test shows nothing, they might let him go home but will see what happens.
On top of all the rest, I managed to slam my left hand in the car door last night, at the hosp parking lot. Sat and almost cried for a little bit. Swelled up a lot and hard to drive home but can move all my fingers, swelling is gone with ice and rest but awful bruise on knuckles and back of hand. The seat belt got caught, I opened the door to get it back out with rt hand, still had seat belt in left, jerked it loose and went back a ways causing door to slam on my hand as a closed fist. OUCHHHHHHHHH!!!!
Would appreciate some prayers this am for both of us. Will BBL.
God bless, thank you and prayers for all of you too today,
Hugs and love, Shirley Mae
PS...NOt eating well here alone either. Just grabbing something is not doing me any good health wise but try to eat at least 3-4 times a day to keep going. Thanks Mary for the ideas and this thread. enjoy reading it and getting recipe ideas when I am all out or too tired to care. God bless you where ever you are.

Good morning! My weekend seemed to be entirely too short, even if every day is weekend when I’m retired. It still goes too darn fast!
Yesterday, DD, DSIL and DGD came for linner—lunch/dinner. I made a lasagna, and an 8x8” one for them to take home. We had lasagna, hot French bread and salad. After they left, DH said it was the best lasagna he had ever eaten. I just grinned at him. He said, “OK, what did you do different?” Again, I grinned. He then asked if I’d sneaked something in on him… I confessed… eggplant! His friend had sent me two small eggplants, and I didn’t have time to do eggplant parmigiana for just me, so I diced it and put it in my lasagna. I already had spinach in the “white” layer with the ricotta, and I cooked the eggplant with the ground beef, onions and peppers. So funny! If he would have known there was eggplant in it before he ate it… no takers! Poor guy, I sneak veggies in on him all the time.
I also sent watermelon, cantaloupe and tomatoes home with DD.
I may have told you the coffee guys were talking about stuff and DH said he would never eat keen-waaah (quinoa). He came home and told me, and I told him he was eating it regularly. I guess he had to go to coffee and fess up.
Today I plan to finish the baby quilt, do another bib or two and make hopefully her first) doll quilt to go with the quilt. I took the quilt in with me and showed Mom, and she was quite pleased. Since she didn’t feel up to making it, I’ll tell my cousin it’s from her heart through my hands to his granddaughter.
Mary—sorry all good things must come to an end. We are cooler than you are but STEAMY here. I’d love some dry heat! There definitely is a difference.
Shirley Mae—I sure hope things get better with you and Rod. That running back and forth to the hospital is a bummer. You need a room with him!!! Did you have more flooding? Stop and eat—find a Subway… healthier than the other drive through lanes. Mom’s and my salads from Braum’s are delicious and full of fruits, spinach and chicken.
Becca—I hope you have a better week! Sometimes when things happen like that I wish I could press cont-alt-del and redo-from-start!!! Thinking of you!!!
Irish—think of you as well! Way too many adventures! I’m so glad you are still planning your trip—you and your sister both need to relax, and with Kathy there you will have a super time of it! Are you sure you need to lose that weight? The picture I saw of you did not look like you had much to spare. I on the other hand… sigh!
Need to get busy. DH arrived for brunch… Dinner here… lasagna, salad, bread and corn on the cob…
Bon appétit!

Good afternoon from another dreary, kind of chilly, SW. Pa...Every once in awhile, we think we might see Mr. Sun but I think he's just teasing....He and Mother Nature should get their act together....
Mary, Maybe you can bottle up some of those beachy sounds and have them when you need something to pep you up...But, knowing you, you don't seem to need anything to get you going so send that bottle to me.... We leave on Sat., Aug, 26th, I think, lol...I guess I'll know for sure when my sister and the kids pull in to take me to the airport, lol....I am really looking forward to going but I keep thinking, it just won't be right with Jim not being with us...I hate to think of leaving him....How's your kitty doing, hope all better.....
Chickie, I love to hear how you sneak those foods into your dinners and DH loves it...I can still remember my Mom doing that to my Dad...One little thing, he said, he would never drink instant coffee so Mom would put it in the coffee pot and pretend it was perked and he never knew the difference and the same with cake mixes...He'd never eat anything but made from scratch....She baked often and hardly ever from scratch, lol....The picture you saw was probably from the waist up, different story from the other angle, lol...With loosing the weight, I'm now able to wear training bras but sure wish I could say smaller jeans, lol...Oh well, maybe one day....
Becca, hoping you have a much better this week than lastAs I've said, I think it's really hard for a man to understand he just can't do it all any more...Even with Jim, I know it bothers him to have to sit most of the day....They should know, they've paid their dues, it's time to relax but that's not their makeup, I guess.....
With this weather, I can't seem to get motivated...Early this morning, I took Jim for his blood work at the VA...And talk about mis communication...Yesterday when I visited Jim, I told 2 nurses, Jim would be leaving early this morning and he wasn't to have breakfast...Well, I got there and they were xraying his left leg, hip and ankle..The gal said, they were waiting for the approval from the insurance????She didn't know they had done xrays at the hospital, another???? AND then when I told her, they had done his right side, another mystery....Then another gal came to make sure he was ready to go and made sure he had eaten breakfast?????WHAT???All the notes that had been left, said, he was leaving early in the morning, nothing about breakfast...But, the blood taker said, it would be OK...Friday he goes back to see the VA doctor....Is this all from lack of staff or maybe there's too many, just wondering......
So, came home to try to get something done and so far, haven't done a darn thing, except have a cup of tea...........I need that bottle of beachy sounds RIGHT NOW!
As far as dinner, I might do something with chicken...I know the fur kids would love it...And I have more fresh beets, so might get them cooked...If not that, always a salad...............
You all have a great day..........
Happy eating..................

I just posted this over in sew-in ......
Good afternoon, I am back with an UPDATE!!!! 2:30 PM 8/7 on Rod. Please keep him in your prayers.
Rod just called.....stress test results back. Need more testing, Cath lab scheduled for tomorrow. Another Day another dollar or two. WE are up over a $1000 already but they do payments, hope small ones.
His chest pain is coming back again today too. Hasn't had it for a few days. They think there may be a blockage somewhere so need catherization test for that, possible stent or something.
I know lately he has been short of breath sometimes but I notice more than he does. As a heart pt, I guess I am more aware of things like that. Just hope they find something and fix it so he can come home. I miss him. Too quiet around here and cats are driving me crazy.
I did take a short nap this am and had a good lunch so feel better. He told me to just stay home and rest today. Will keep you posted on what is going on whenever I can.
Rod thinks it is more important for me to run to store and buy some St Louis ribs on sale this week so he can smoke them in smoker later this week. Typical BBQ man, always thinking about food (as he was drinking his liquid breakfast.)
OH, Some good news!!!! Maint brought us a brand new stove this am. Ours has been overheating, burning up our pans, and food, and just not working right so glad they finally replaced it. Now to get Rod home so we can cook something fantastic on it or bake something in the oven. No bells or whistles, just a new shiny stove that hopefully works right.
Thanks for all your prayers and kind caring concern. God has a plan, we just haven't figured out what exactly it is so leaning on HIM big time as we go thru this. May God bless you all for being there for us. Much love and many hugs and prayers for you all too, Shirley Mae and Rod too and of course the kittycats.
ps..the hand I slammed in the car door last night is a pretty shade of red and purple today but think it is just bruised. a reminder to me to slow down, rest a little, and let God take care of things. I am just turning it all over to HIM. AMEN
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
Thank you all for your prayers and concerns. God is watching over us and with you all praying, what more could we ask for. I know the angels are surrounding us, I can feel the hope and strength and warmth of your love across the miles too.
Not sure what I am eating tonight. May have to cook something to try out my new stove. Will see how hungry I am. Off to store for those ribs and who knows what else is on sale. Have a great day and a super supper too. God bless, Shirley Mae

Catch up time:
DH and I returned from a spontaneous trip to San Francisco and Monterey. It was great to go from 104 to 68 in one day. We had a lovely time looking at everything on the Wharf but the traffic was crazy, so we did mostly walking. Boy, are my shins and hips sore. We had wonderful seafood every night and went to sleep to the sound of seagulls, seals and foghorns. Drove down to Monterey and walked the boardwalk. Had lunch (clam chowder bowl) then drove home (3 1/2 hours) It was a very nice get away.
Back now to reality. Got out early, as usual, to garden. Seems that everything grew a few feet while we were gone. I will have to start over again at the beginning. My Christmas cactus got dried out while we were gone and I don't know if it is going to recover...it is just too hot.
Becca - so glad DH was not badly injured. I remember my mom telling me that my Dad, in his 80's decided to take down a tin shed on his property. He promised Mom he would not get up on the roof. But Mom looked up just in time to see him disappear as the roof caved in. Fortunately the only thing hurt was his pride and a scrap on the underside of his arm. So don't believe them when they say they will be careful!
The dove is still incubating, so far so good.
Tonite is pork chops, couscous and squash, plus tomatoes from the garden.
You all take care...**Linda
