SUPPER CLUB - Sunday, June 4th

Post by purrfect-lady » Sun Jun 04, 2017 3:25 am

Good Morning!

We are cloudy today but I think it will clear up and warm up - some. No wood today as Bill received the parts he ordered to finish working on our trailer breaks. He has "Silver" up on blocks, tires off, for several days while waiting for these parts so I haven't been able to go in to take stock of the pantry and start packing. No rush yet, but the fact that I can't go inside makes me WANT to go inside! lol!

So, if Bill isn't doing wood today, then I get to play in my sewing room! I'm making a wallhanging for a friend right now and I dreamed about it all last night. I need to get it off my worktable so I can sleep peacefully! lol!

IRISH - that's such good news about no bandaids for Jim! And it must have been fun to hang out for a while at Dairy Queen, just the two of you. Any tomatoes yet? How did your Penguins do last night?

BECCA - so nice to have a farm so close to you for produce. We have a farmers market, which I always forget to go to. But there is a big fruit/veggie/flower stand a mile away, too, and our grocery store also has very good fresh stuff so we're well covered.

JANA - you had to proof an engineering thesis?? Oh, the things we do as moms!! Sounds like your camp supper was a lot of fun. As a kid, I just learned to like "Cajun" marshmellows. It was easier than learning to be patient enough to get a golden toast on them. I would worry, too, about the creek so close with all your little ones. Have any of them had swimming lessons yet? We started Autumn swimming at 6 months. It got her used to the water at least.

TINA - any word yet on when Mom goes home? Did you get your pond all cleaned out? How do your water critters tolerate this operation?

CHICKIE - you are probably outside with the Hooligans and the Hoodlums. Chickie and the Hooligans sounds like a bad band from the 60's! lol!

And here we are at the menu portion of our supper posts. I always wonder, when I reach this point, what I'm going to write! lol! But there are leftover scalloped potatoes and half of a kielbasa, so I'm thinking of combining them, throw in some peas, and calling it a one-pot meal. How bad can it be?? Add a salad and we'll be good.

I hope your supper is good tonite, too!

Good morning everyone, cloudywitha shower. Woke up late so willbe aslower paced day today.

MaryzWhy is it we always want to do what isn't possible? Think it's human nature .Your meal sounds good to me.

Jana when you mentioned the children drowning I cringed bec of my DB.I was always paranoid about mine when we were around water. We had a pool but they were older then & all could swim. But one Sunday afternoon our friends were visiting who had a 21/2 yr old.I turned & she was floating face down.I jumped in pool & her Dad did too at same time.Thankfully she didn't injest any water. She held her breath. It was a scary moment.

Irish So glad you had an outing with Jim.And that there was no cutting.

Chickie I know it's hooligan & babies feeding times so know we miss you.lol

Tina Somglad Mom is doing better.HopeDad is holding up too.Hope you get some restin this wkend but remember you are on vacation.Rest anyway.lol You deserve it.

I made Spagetti sauce Friday nite so today will be Spagetti and salad. Becca

Good morning :)
I missed yesterday, I had yucky on my hands and didn't touch much LOL I fished all my fishout of my pond, Frankie accidentally found our make turtle Choppers while he was trying to catch the frog. It took forever to find our female turtle Lily but Kevin finally found her in gunk and rocks under the waterfall around 2 yesterday. The turtles were a tad ticked off to say the least. We put the fish in a swimming pool for kids, the turtles were in a metaloblong thing and my plants are still in ttotes, were fixing to clean them and separate them into smaller plants so we'll have more. Then cleaning up everything. It was a nasty messy gross stinky job but it's almost over and I think everyone is happier :) I know we are because we can see our fish and turtles again. The water treatment stuff will go in probably Tuesday so the water temperature gets back up by then. All seemed to make it through all the moving and cleaning yesterday and they are all active this morning.
Mom is in a regular room, Dad told them yesterday that he couldn't care for her drain tube that had to stay in for 25 days so they were talking about moving her to the rehab hospital were they have a few rooms that are wound care there, so please pray they can get her in and it get approved because Dad really needs this to happen.
I made corned beef brisket in the crock pot yesterday (1st time) and I made it into grilled ruebens for supper and it was a huge hit with us all! We're going to have the leftovers for supper tonight :) I have leftover chicken salad for lunch today so I'm all set!
I'm going tomorrow to visit Mom and Dad.

Good morning!

The kids are all home safe and sound. No incidents or accidents.

Some of the grands have had swimming lessons, but the littlest haven't yet. Here, the creeks and rivers are so cold and swift, that even the rescue swimmers are having a tough time. The upper snows are melting fast, in another week, they will be gone.

Dinner - chicken something with a salad. I have a pastrami sandwich I saved from yesterday's lunch for my lunch today.

I am helping one of my friends in the Ward making cooling scarves for the girls going to camp in a week or so. She is coming over in the morning to sew/serge them.

Well, time yo go,
Enjoy,
Jana

Hello late Sunday afternoon everyone:

Just got back from 4 days camping in the mountains. We always wait for the Memorial Day rush pass, then go up on a Thursday. We usually get our favorite spot, but this time we decided to move 2 spaces over just for the heck of it. Unfortunately we didn't pay attention and our site was in direct line with the camp bathrooms and people kept tromping right through our site, day and night. Won't use that one again. The weather was great and campers are always entertaining. No wi-fi or cell service up there so I will have to catch up with you all later. Have to get started on the laundry at least today, camping is such dirty business!

Back home, my bathroom is totally demolished except for cabinets and tub. We are waiting for the quartzite counter to be fabricated and the tile to come in. Plus, we ordered new washer and dryer that will come Tuesday. The contractor will come back then to uncrate and check the out, then see how to "jury rig" them into the narrow hall closet we have for laundry. So, we are putting up with dust, dirt and debris again. So far DH and I have had no arguments since I moved into his bathroom temporarily.

Tomorrow begins the DH full time home routine. We have to work on expectations, boundaries and schedules so there will be no misunderstandings that escalate into arguments. Will be interesting to see.

Tonight is out to our favorite Mexican place as neither of us want to cook. DH asked me a funny question: How do you think turkey chili would be in lasagna? I'm game to try it, what do you think?

Good afternoon!
Greetings from the muggy heartlands… We’ve had some of Tina’s storms, but mostly just rain showers without wind and “fireworks”. I’ve been in absentia—no excuses other than just busy with stuff here—cooking, cleaning, cooking, cleaning, calves, dogs, etc. Seems like when I finish wrangling calves, I’m beat—they are really rambunctious and messy. I had a nice visit with Mom yesterday—lunch and quilt making/talking.

Mary—you had way too much work in those logs! It would be killer here in the heat and humidity. We used to do some big trees/logs when we were burning wood full time. Of course, that was a number of years ago—younger, stronger and leaner! It’s a rough looking band we have here—rowdy ragamuffins are more like it.

Linda—I think you could do a “Mexican” lasagna. It works for me. Good luck with the retirement “rules”. Remember: Blessed are the flexible, for they shall not be bent out of shape. With retired DH’s who are used to being the boss… flexibility on their part. They have to think they are still in charge. You will have a totally new house when you get all of your remodeling finished. Nice! Sorry about your high-traffic campsite. I’m sure you realized why you liked your favorite spot… too late this time.

Jana—You are always busy! Those cool scarves work well!

Tina—that sounds like an interesting, yucky day, but so worth the work in the end. Glad your mom is doing so well. I do hope she gets moved to rehab so your dad can do his own rehab in the meantime. Your Reubens sound so wonderful!

Irish—what a nice afternoon for you and Jim… especially with no band-aids!

Becca—I’m always afraid around water. I never learned to swim. I waded in the Pacific Ocean, but we didn’t go swimming in SF. When I came back to Kansas, I went to take swimming lessons. They put me in the beginner swim class with a bunch of 5 year olds. I was 11 and looked like 16. I tried it for almost a week, but they shamed me mercilessly and I couldn’t take the humiliation of being big and stupid. I avoid water happenings.

We have a new calf this morning. We looked all over several times yesterday for mama cow, as she had been looking like she was hunting for a birthing spot for several days. Of course, we were out in the rain last evening hunting for her as she left where she had been laying. All was good this morning, and another little black calf was beside her. We have one cow left that hasn’t calved this year yet. There is also one that probably will not calve and probably will go to market. (Sigh!)

DS1 has a cow that had twins and only took one of them. I thought I would have another baby to take care of, but apparently DGD is going to take on the job. I'm taking milk replacer over tonight.

I’ve been absent, but I’ve been cooking… You know DH wouldn’t miss a meal if he could help it or have me in the kitchen fixing it. He’s eaten quite well. Tonight we are going to DS1s for a cook out with friends and family. I made a big blackberry cobbler to take. The menu is (aaaak!) beef heart, tongue, balls and liver and onions. I will eat the liver and onions but nothing else. I’m hoping there will be some salad. I didn’t know about it until after I had been to the store and back home yesterday, or I’d have gotten stuff to make salad or guacamole.

Bon appétit!

I'm back. Dad just told me that Mom is having a fit and doesn't want to go to rehab, she wants to go home. Her reason is because she can't see her little Yorkie, but in rehab she actually can see her, they have a special room set up for her to visit her all day if she wants. I think she wants to go home so she doesn't have to do what they say anymore. Dad is upset. I feel so bad for him. The Dr's say it's Mom's choice even after Dad said he can't take care of her.
