Psalm 58

Powerful metaphors are used to show the inherent wickedness of the unrighteous and once again to reflect on our sin nature from birth. We don not choose to sin; is is the natural tendency of human nature. We have to choose not to sin, and in doing so we are aware of our inability to live a righteous life apart from God's sovereign grace and intervention. The nature of sin just leads us deeper and deeper into its bondage. Lie a conscience that has been numbed because is has been ignored, a sinner is like a deaf cobra that does not hear or heed the voice of the charmer. Being indifferent to God's call to righteousness puts us under bondage. It is as if we are under a spell; wickedness becomes easier and easier, and the pangs of conscience become nonexistent.

When we don't see God acting on our behalf, we must not succumb to doubt and lose heart and certainly must not become vindictive and assume the vengeance that is God's prerogative alone. Sometimes our comfort and assurance are only in the promise that the wicked will be destroyed and that we will one day see the righteous rewarded.

Hugs prayers and God bless
Izzy
